AJ Youngman

Morton is 1-5 - and I hafta disagree with all the people who say that the college guys will find you wherever you are...

For example this Pekin columnist Mark Rich says...
" ... Youngman already has a national reputation among recruiters and collegiate coaches,
so you have to think no matter where he plays — Morton or elsewhere — he’ll be found."

http://www.pekintimes.com/article/20141210/NEWS/141219879/-1/opinion?template=printart

yeah - he'll be found, but it cannot work in his favor that being on a bad team, they lose all the time or that nobody on his team can get the ball past half court, set screens, or get the ball into AJ's hands.
Indeed a bad team at Morton hurts AJ's recruiting chances a lot contrary to the concept that it doesn't matter at all.

Actually I have to wonder how they are so bad - they returned SIX seniors from a Regional Champion team that advances all the way
to the Sectional Championship game last spring, including a couple starters..
...they have Altenberger's kid (a 55% 3-pt shooter), Brett Bisping's younger brother Braden- a senior, and others, plus over the past few years
they have had outstanding, and even state-caliber junior high teams that ought to have translated to a little bit of talent at the HS level.
Could it be a chemistry issue?

Just saw on twitter AJ might be enrolling at Manual.

Maybe but don't think so heard tonight he's still at Morton but he wasn't in the gym tonight nor was his dad unless he was in disguise. I've know ad for a lot of years and did not see him at limestone and AJ was definitely not on the bench in uniform or street clothes. If he ends up at manual he'd have to sit out 30 days.

Lonnie Schwindenhammer is now reporting that AJ Youngman's father has confirmed they have moved to Peoria and will enroll at Manual

Just saw that . My information from a Morton fan last night sure was wrong. Someone said b4 I talked to the Morton person that Lonnie had tweeted he was enrolling at Manual but the Morton person who had a kid on the team said he was still in school. Oh well that chapter seems to over very quickly for AJ and his Dad. That decision seems to be a puzzler to me. Love Derrick, great guy but why in the hell would you send your kid to D 150 school. Guess education is not a high priority. Hope everything works out for AJ but this move amazes me. At least we know he will get good coaching but I would NEVER send a kid to a D 150 school. With so many people flocking out of Peoria to the Dunlap's, Morton's, Washington's ,and Metamora's ,the Youngman's sure are the exception to what has been happening for the past 10 years. Good luck AJ hope you find what your looking for. Derrick and Manual have a great basketball tradition .

There are all kinds of rumors out there! Who knows where his father will take him this time which is complete shame he is going to ruin this kid! I have seen AJ play a few times at Lincoln and I would think he would have a hard time cracking Manuals lineup. He is a little challenged in the athleticism department. He is a talented shooter when open decent around the hoop with a smaller player on him but he can not play a bit of defense. That will be a problem at Manual with their man to man defense they play. He needs to work on his defensive fundamentals to make him a more well rounded player.

Lots of rumors and false info floating around out there but it sounds like the Youngmans are shopping AJ as a player with the caveat of adding the elder as an asst coach. The word is that is why he did not end up at Washington last summer. We will see what happens.

Looks like Morton is better off without him. They have won their last 2 games. Talked with someone who goes to Morton and he said the guys on the team are glad he and his Dad are gone.

So they are glad he is gone ? They sound like a bunch of fakes, but yeah thats Morton for you. Any more info on this saga ? Is he going to be eligible at Manual this season or even be on the team ?

I think every high school team in the nation has this exact same drama...
-players getting maybe more playing time than other players or parents think they should
-players whose parents seem to have inside influence
-coaches who seem to favor kids based on one dimension but not seeing the whole impact they have
-and transfers in and out just because they aren't seeing the respect or playing time they (or parents) want

I don't know the Morton situation but every kid and every parent just wants to see fewer drama, better teamwork, fair chances at playing time
...and in the end - some kids just have to keep trying some place new in order to find what they want...

BTW - Here's one story about a kid who transferred to Manual.....so beware AJ..
He was a track star, a double state champion in sprints, who left the private school he was at to go to Manual to compete in both football & track - and was already getting interest from colleges...
He started the year at Manual but within a month transferred back to the private school when he was astounded at the language, behavior, lack of discipline, and lack of proper environment for a good education at Manual.

His dad should know this can be expected - He was coach at Springfield Lanphier for a couple years and of course quit -- there was said to be the exact same stuff as you mentioned at Manual. In a major college program it is expected also, so he might as well get used to it now. Personally I would have picked Limestone to transfer to - school is a bit better than Manual and Eddie Mathews is a very good coach

I have seen players in a program who are good players that the parent wanted his son highlighted and by doing so actually took away from the team chemistry. The team was actually better when they left. I don't think Derrick Booth will do that and don't think the present Manuel players will like that

I agree he wont fit in at Manual - unless there is an agreement already --- the father is a complete fool

Please feel free to add comments if you know more. But I have heard that Coach Ford was never very high on A.J. Others close to him were, but not Geno.

I do not expect to see him end up at Bradley.

Geno wasn't very high on Alec Peters either, and look how that turned out! Perhaps Geno should start listening to those others close to him.

Geno probably wont be around in 3 years anyway -- BU basketball was more popular with the mix of in state (Chicago area) and Peoria area players. Not to bash Geno, but college basketball is about making money, as well as winning games.
