All-MVC 2009-10

Pretty good list. I agree with most selections.

Here is where my choices would differ-
I do not think there is any chance Dinma Odiakosa makes 1st team All MVC. One of the guards you have listed on the 2nd team, probably Andrew Warren who will be Bradley's leading scorer, will be on the 1st team. Then I would put Creighton's Kenny Lawson ahead of Dinma Odiakosa onto the 2nd team. With Kenton Walker leaving, Lawson will play a lot more minutes and probably put up very good numbers. He is a more skilled player than Odiakosa.
I also think one of Wichita State's players, Toure Murry or Clevin Hannah, could make the 2nd team ahead of Kyle Weems. Wichita State will be a better team that MSU.

By the way, here are last year's All MVC teams. The underclassmen on these teams will likely make up most of the 2009-2010 lists.

never too early?? I agree with you but be prepared...
each season we start talking about this kind of stuff in the summer and indeed there ARE always people who say we shouldn't be talking about this stuff so early....that things are bound to change and even if we do say nice things about the players, that it might jinx then or cause them to fail by putting too much pressure on them!! ;)

I'm not really going to worry about that... there is no such thing as a jinx!

Besides, is it possible to jinx 10 players into having bad seasons? I think not...

I'm pretty sure we have the rights as humans to talk about whatever we want, whenever we want. I say bring on the 2010-11 All-MVC Teams now!

:cool::p

1st Team

Eldridge
Ahlegbe
Stinnett
Lawson
Egleseder

2nd Team

Murry
Koch
Odiakosa
Weems
Maniscalco

New Comer of the Year: Either Johnny Coy WSU or Caleb Patterson MSU

I don't see any way that Odiakosa is 1st team, not with as many shots as I'm expecting from OE. I agree with AW on the second team, I think people assuming a rise to greatness from an entire season off is wishful thinking (that I'm taking part in ;) ). I do expect to see Sam Maniscalco as Honorable mention, maybe 2nd team in addition to Jordan Prosser being a frontrunner for newcomer of the year.

Homer pick I know but don't be surprised if Freeman, the transfer from Iowa is Newcomer of the year. If he clicks with the team, he could end up leading it in scoring.

you are right saluki...I had not considered that, so I would amend my all newcomer team and include him, maybe dropping Ricks as he's coming from DII juco

Coy ASU to WSU
Patterson CU to MSU
Freeman IU to SIU

Are all newcomers that seem to be flying under the radar. i expect all three to make major impacts for teams trying to battle back into upper division finishes.

Another one flying under the radar is Ryan Wedel at Drake.....2 years ago, Wedel averaged 15 ppg as a sophomore at Arkansas State and led the Sun Belt in 3-pt shooting. He definitely could make an impact next season.

Hard to believe that Josh Young, who has been either 1st or 2nd team all-conference each of the past 2 seasons, won't be on either the 1st or 2nd team in his senior year.

I guess a lot depends on how healthy he is this coming season. This past season, he had a lot of injury issues that weren't common knowledge.

OK I hope AW is reading these threads and it motivates him. He had the ability before his injury to be a POY last year. Does so much change? AW will light up the conference and SM will be one of the leading 3pt shooters. Did anyone see the LA/DEN game last night, Kobe driving and dishing to Fisher for those big 3s. I hate LA but those are the type of plays I expect from those two next year.

Good write-up electricmayhem.

I hope AW is motivated too... but I don't see any way that SM averages 10 points per game this year. There aren't enough guard minutes... will he play over EM, DD, etc.? I see him playing 20-22 minutes, and averaging 7-9 points. EM looked good running the point at the end of the year.

I would be surprised if he doesn't average 12+, as Sam has gradually turned into one of our more reliable scorers. the loss of Darian Norris (and even Theron Wilson - as sometimes we might go with four guards now that we don't have Theron) PLUS you know there'll be at least one injury somewhere along the line, will open up at least 20-25 mpg for guards...

Sam averaged 12.6 points per game last year as a sophomore, and because of Andrew Warren's injury/redshirt, Sam was Bradley's main outside shooting threat. He received more defensive effort than he will get next season, once AW is back, and there are other outside threats, too.

If he drops his average from 12.6 ppg to 7-9, it will be an unprecedented drop for a kid with Sam's shooting and offensive skills and considering he will be a year older, and improved next year.
I predict his shooting percentage will improve, he will take less shots but average about the same as last year.

I expect 15 ppg from SM. SM is a great set shooter and with AW getting a lot of attention I'd expect him to be a lot more open and able to set his feet and square up.

SM led the team with 32.8 mpg last year, but with AW coming back, I don't see him getting more than 25, if JL uses EM at the point. These were the guards minutes last year...

SM - 32.8
DD - 26.8
CR - 25.9 -- I realize he'll play the three some this year
EM - 25.0

Now add AW, DSE and JE to the mix, and what happens?

Look, I love SM and I'm probably going to take heat for this, but of the seven guards in that list, he probably ranks 6th or 7th in talent. That equates to a severe reduction in minutes. DSE and JE probably won't get huge minutes as frosh, and somebody correctly mentioned that injuries happen, but am I missing something? Do we not have way too many guards for the minutes?

Let's just say I disagree with your assessment. He is the leader of the team and gives the team invaluable intangibles. He also is the leading returning scorer on the team. I'm not sure how you can say he will be the 6th option in the backcourt????? DSE and JE will probably not see much time on the court next year. JE has a better chance if team ever again plays zone against us. CR is more of a 3 then a 1-2 like SM so I'll take him out of the equation. EM needs to learn to shoot from the outside before he over takes SM. DD gives you a different look but I would not say better in all areas especially with consistant scoring. Who did the team look to for scoring at the end of the game? Enough said. AW will be ahead of him and everyone else will have to practice harder and better to step ahead of him in the depth chart. BTW...AW wll be playing the 3 not the 2 for most of his minutes. As a Sopmore that is what he played!
