Alvin Brooks leaving Bradley staff

TW would be a nice bridge to the "chicago pipeline" and also has some valuable coaching experience to add to the mix...would be a good hire IMO! Good Luck to AB3....and on bgetting back home...now lets get someone in who wants to be here and recruit BU back to where we all want to be!:D

Tracy Webster got a bad deal a DePaul. Taking over a team in mid season with NO real talent to speak of:| While head coach there, he did show some fire and did do a good job under all the circumstances:!: He was a asst. coach under Gene Keady at Purdue and thats a good thing, considering all the asst. coach's and ex players that are/have become successful head and asst. coach's under Gene:!: I think this would be a great addition:!::D

Are we at a point yet where we can say that this departure (AB) along with EB's, is nothing short of being labeled as a major shake up in BU's coaching staff:? I would say so:!: And I think a much needed one:!:

One more thing here. Wasn't it posted here about a sighting of Tracy Webster at BU's games in St. Louis:doubt: If so, just MAYBE we have been considering Tracy for a while and just maybe this has been a done deal for some time:wink:

Not sure about any of that, but we did play DePaul last fall.

Here's my negativive input

Here's my negativive input

First of all I thought Depaul played much better with Webster as head coach. I thought he did fine. I also think we have a top assistant already hired so we don't have to hit a home run.

But..... I think Tracy Webster is one of the most over rated assistants I can think of. He didn't do anything at Illinois, and after he left and Jerrance Howard took over Illinois started getting recruits. Then he went to UK coach was fired, went to Depaul coach was fired. I really don't think he is a good recruiter. I would rather have the lower ranked David Booth if we were getting someone from Depaul.

PS Sorry this hits a hot button for me. I am not a fan.

I don't think thefish7 is talking about an assistant coach... Just my guess.

Actually I was referring to an assistant. I decided midway through last year that I thought
Les deserved another year with a new staff. My mind hasn't changed on this. I don't know vogt... Don't doubt he's a hard worker. Just never saw him in the huddle or talking to Les during the game.

Platt, in my opinion, was a HUGE upgrade. Webster, in my opinion, would be a HUGE upgrade. These two hires are the types of hires real programs make.

My question is...why the h-ll did we wait so long to start acting like a real program? Honestly! Why? Who made these decisions? These are decisions that should have been made years ago. These are the types of hires a Sweet 16 team makes. Why did it take 4 years? :-o

He is the recruiter that we need now and your evaluation of him seems to be a little off, he has worked for some good head coaches and has made a lot of contacts over the years which is very valuable asset, I think it is important to get someone now with recruiting ongoing.

I just want to know why it took 8 years for JL to potentially assemble the best staff BU has had in over a decade...because if TW joins it, this will be BY FAR the best staff we've had in a long, long time.

I have to apologize as I did go back and search some related threads. I found this post and others about Wille Scott in the thread about EB leaving. So I believe this must of been what I remembered and I had the wrong Chicago native and coach. Shame on me, but this is what happens when you get old:roll: I will delete that part from my post. But Wille would be a good one to:!::)

I just wish I could say JL did this all on his own and didn't have his hand forced. None of us will ever know the full story  but it sure doesn't seem like a move in line with JL's moves over the last 8 years. Whatever. Just freaking win.

Another JL insult after after what appears to be a good thing? Couldn't have seen that coming...

Answer the question - Why did it take 8 years? Why? Not a shot, just a question that no one wants to answer. I'm of the ilk of onward and upward with this new staff, but as an alum, donor, and season ticket holder I think I deserve at least a BS answer...and not from you.

BU had limited choices for a HC but you think extremely qualified assistants were lining up to coach here? I'm a BU realist, I love the school, I love the BBall program, but I'm not delusional and think we're a destination school in the nation, or even among mid-majors, and I know it takes time to get there. I had the privilege of serving on a couple committees in the athletic department and I can assure you finding assistant coaches in all sports that are what the school needs in every aspect (salary included) is a very difficult task. Getting a person who is used to a BCS type salary (who are the coaches you seem to respect) to be an assistant coach at BU isn't exactly a walk in the park. I know that if I need a financial analyst and I have 50k to pay him, I'm not getting a Kellogg grad... That same reasoning has to apply in athletics.

I don't question your heart...it's in the right place, no doubt. I think/hope all of our hearts are. But if BU really wanted to win, they could have given themselves the best chance to do so. They didn't. They haven't for a long time. If they're overhauling the staff with real coaches then God bless 'em...it's about time. This 'money' excuse is pure BS. You talk like we're Drake or Evansville and lucky to have a program...if that's what we are now please let me know...because we aren't them and sick of hearing this 'Woe is BU' like we can't pay for competent leadership in our ONLY revenue sport. Oh, by the way, Drake has won a league title and tourney title in the last 14 years! We haven't!
