very sad....at Alton (IL) High School
Alton (in white) vs Riverview Gardens (in black jerseys)
fistfight erupts on the court between players, then everyone loses control and starts wailing their fists at someone else, BOTH benches empty comepletely and everyone gets into the melee, then one of the older refs who tried to contain the fight gets knocked to the floor, then the fight moves into the student section of the stands and other students get involved.....

As a result-
the refs gave BOTH teams a FORFEIT LOSS for this game, then ejected every player on both teams, meaning both teams are completely suspended for their next game today and thus take another forfeit loss for their Saturday games. Those other teams did get a forfeit win for Saturday.
But then with the absence of the teams, the entire rest of the tournament had to be cancelled.
IHSA needs to step in and in cases like this, the entire team should be suspended for the rest of the season and ineligible for post-season.
I know that will never happen and it would cancel games for many other teams, but severe punishment needs to be handed out.
these kids can play at the "Y" or elsewhere, or try again next year but they do NOT deserve to play again this year and no other teams need to be put into a position of wondering if those teams will go berserk again and cause more injury.

A brawl broke out near the end of the Chicago North Lawndale Sectional final game tonight between Chicago Farragut and Chicago North Lawndale. The IHSA reviewed the situation and has rules a double-forfeit and both schools have been eliminated from the Class 3A playoffs and neither will advance to the Hoffman Estates Supersectional. So, there will be no Hoffman Estates Supersectional game next week, and the opponent, DePaul Prep will automatically advance to the 3A semifinals next Friday in Peoria.

In Peoria, Manual HS defeated Peoria Notre Dame to advance to the DeKalb Supersectional against Glen Ellyn (Glenbard South) next Tuesday.

DePaul Prep = Dick Versace's old school Gordon Tech

that means they now will NOT have to play a Supersectional game Tuesday - they will advance
right past that game as a forfeit and play next Friday in the Class 3a Semi-final in Peoria

DePaul Prep is coached by Tom Kleinschmidt old DePaul star. His Father was a very good HS referee in the Chicago area and worked the State Tourney 3 times in the mid 80's.
