Appalling grenade?

Cue the violins Da Coach.

Should Chicago Tribune columnists issue public apologies when they talk about Lovie Smith's job and speculation?

Should Dallas Morning News columnists issue public apologies when they comment and opine about Wade Phillips job status and the speculation around it?

Should the Detroit media issue apologies when they discussed, dissected and commented on the job status of then football coach Rich Rodriguez?

Why do you seem to think the Peoria media should act differently than any other bigtime media in the country?

You've never yet answered the question. What do you see the job responsibilities are of the media?

Exactly! This makes "little old Peoria" look like a bunch of country bumpkins. Welcome to reality. Maybe we should lynch Wessler, tar and feather him, and run him out of town on a rail. Oh, the humanity!

Why would he give away his source.

lets say its dr. Cross.

He cant say Dr. cross said JL is out.

No but he can keep his source confidential and disclose his source that way in his article. It happens all the time in the media and journalist have gone to jail for refusing to disclose a source in court.

B4Life...I've been saying this for a long time now. And I think this is where the differences are. I just want people to admit it.

If you want/see Bradley as a small time, hometowny, feel good basketball program then I understand you would be upset with any criticism from the media. It's kinda how people feel when the local small town media talks about a high school team. If you want this, great, but I personally aspire to something greater.

I want the national exposure. I want people talking about Bradley. I want people writing columns and blogs and covering Bradley at all levels, good and bad. Sometimes that means negative comments when things aren't going well, but it also means tons of positive comments when things are.

Two more quick comments:

1) I would take bad/negative coverage over none at all--nothing worse than apathy.

2) If Bradley were winning games and competing for championships this thread wouldn't exist.

Everyone's moral compass points slightly different directions I guess. I'm hardly a JL supporter as I have been worn out by his habit of playing smaller lineups ...

Writers who abuse their postion to post rumor and innuendo are a dime a dozen. If that is what you like having in Peoria, then congratulations.

I find it interesting that for the most part, on both sides, everyone's opinions on Wessler's piece and the ethics of it fall right in line with their Jim Les stance, whether that be "want him gone" or "support whoever the head coach is".

Here are my opinions, if anyone cares....

I think Wessler and Les have a beef, and have for awhile, maybe his entire tenure as coach.

The countdown and stuff was a little silly and dramatic for my taste, and I think his willingness to be so bold goes back to my first opinion. I thought the timing of the piece was poor. I do believe it could potentially hurt recruiting, and can also potentially be a distraction to current players.

But, KW, as an opinion writer, should be allowed to write what he wants, and if he stinks at it, I would think he would be replaced. I didn't really like the message or tone of the piece, but I support giving him the freedom to write his opinion.

Well stated Dallas and I agree with you on all counts. I would also add substitution patterns in the past two years have worn me down as well. There is a case to be made for keeping and firing JL. However, I have no tolerance for people who abuse their position in the media.

you think so??? Go check the negativity on the Butler boards and even on Creighton's board after a decade of people here saying we should be more like Creighton..

and some, including people in the newspaper business, take what's written on message boards way too seriously, too

Agreed.

Honestly, message boards are wonderful tools and fun. But they usually represent an extreme base of fandom. It's not fair to point to message board posts to give an accurate cross section of what fans want for a sports program. It is such a small minority of that teams fans. This is true of all levels and all sports.

I readily admit I fall on the "extreme" side. I don't expect others to be the same type of fan I am or follow it as closely as I do. Doesn't make them less fans. Probably saner and more balanced though ;)

I don't understand why KW wants the program to fail when he is an alum if Bradley, grew up cheering for Bradley, and gets to travel with the team if it were to go to the Dance.

I mean, if it were me, I'd personally want the team to do great because watching a "Cinderella" run to the sweet 16 is incredibly fun and probably a career highlight for a man who gets to help cover the team.

Maybe he thinks JL isn't the man to get us there again? Maybe he's heard things?

I don't think he has some underhanded anti-bu agenda.

No, just an anti Jim Les agenda since day 1.

KW wrote that one sentence tells me he definitely knows whats going on.

FACT.....Jim Les is done at BU.

First it was stated by Kirk that he is likely gone and that statement was recognized by some on this board as Kirk stating a fact.

Now it is being stated right here that it's a fact.

Interesting.

I didn't agree with his latest opine but just like I do when I AGREE I read it and and usually don't give it another thought.

He's ONE guy and I'm NOT a puppet. I chose to make up my OWN mind and let others do the same....so I ask whats the big deal about ONE guys opinion?

Good thoughts dogs. I actually didn't see it until it was talked about on here.
