Arizona/UAB dumb plays

Never in my life have I seen 2 of the dumbest basketball fouls in a game. AZ tied UAB up on a missed over the back call for an offensive board with 20 seconds left. Then on the inbound pass, an AZ player didn't know the game was tied and immediately fouled the UAB player LOL. Luckily for AZ, UAB missed on the 1&1 so AZ had 1 last shot to win it. However, AZ missed the last shot and UAB got the rebound with 3 seconds left, then as UAB was running the ball up for a half court buzzer beater, an AZ player intentionally dives at him from behind to foul him, Refs call an intentional foul, UAB makes 1 FT and the game is over. AZ may not of won it in OT but man, those were 2 of the most bone headed mistakes i've seen in a game.

That was the most ridiculous sequence I've ever seen from a team that JUST TIED THE GAME in the final 30 seconds. Did they not know the score? Did they think if UAB made free throws at the end of the game that the points would go to AZ instead? I have no idea what those two morons for Arizona were thinking. Kids playing middle school basketball have better games awareness than what they displayed. And what the heck was Len Elmore thinking on the last foul when he was talking about "maybe he (the AZ player) thought a play was called?" What defensive play could you possibly call in that situation that would make someone think a foul is a good idea? It was all just mind boggling.

some of the blame has to be on the coach...he needs to save a time out and be sure those kids are prompted when and when not to foul

I really don't know how that kid is going to stay on the team let alone at Arizona. It's just got to be embarrassing to go to class and face the other students too.

Arizona is going to be very short on players for a while since all their recruits bolted, so if the kid has any talent, there's room for him

Arizona called time-out to set up their final play with :17 left. Wise took the last shot of the game with only :04 left on the clock.

When was Arizona supposed to call time-out? Remember they called one with :17 left in the game.

These were unexcusably dumb plays...then after the game just fess up you screwed up don't try to give any ridiculous rationale...If you get to Division I basketball you should know the rules... just a further example of how kids are getting away from the fundamentals.

Here's the kicker:

When you're a bubble team and sign up for the P-NIT for a schedule boost, you really need those 2 MSG games on the schedule as a SoS boost as much as for the actual potential wins.

This didn't just cost Arizona one game - it cost them 3 games and a serious dent in their at-large resume.

How did it cost them 3 games? Had they won, they would have had the Semi-finals and either the 3rd place game or the championship game.
They do have 2 games left in the P-NIT Consolation bracket. (one of which is against a decent Santa Clara team)

With Kansas, Gonzaga, UNLV, Texas A&M, San Diego State and the entire PAC-10 schedule awaiting Arizona, I'm not so sure they are terribly worried about their resume just yet.

I meant in terms of quality wins. The UAB win plus two potential MSG wins.

Also, I didn't know they do consolation brackets in the PNIT now.

Gotcha about the UAB potential win.

It's not really consolation brackets though. Just 2 dedicated games on the site of one of the campuses. Arizona gets to travel to GA to play Miss Valley and Santa Clara. They don't play GA though.

Davidson, GA and St. John's are the host sites
