Article on Athletics & HUGE Costs at Missouri State

A few years ago Missouri State dropped a couple sports to save money. At that time it was revealed they were getting $5 million a year from the general funds (taxpayer money) of the university to support the money-losing athletic department. I suspect this happens at most non-BCS state schools.

Nothing to do with MSU, but on a related note, Western Illinois dropped men's and women's swimming and diving yesterday. These sports were only funded with about 10 scholarships total. A sign of the times, with more of this nationwide I expect.

Here are a few interesting articles about schools dropping sports and other problems-

wow....just as Florida International Univ. was all set to dump cheerleading just to save money
(they recently hired Isiah Thomas as basketball coach and Isiah said he'd work his first year for free to save $$)

then along comes a great idea for the cheerleaders to save the day...

let me know if the BU cheerleaders come up with the same kind of idea...
