Assistant Coach Opening-Will they hire this year?

I did notice that and I also noticed that Mike Peplow, who has been with the program for like 4 years I think, was doing the checking in with the scorers table about subs and what not. I know he is a student but he is experienced and I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't make a hire during the season and just let him continue doing that while Vogt fills the assistant slot and provides suggestions to Les.

For what it's worth, I think Merf's replacement is already here. Didn't anyone else notice Kyle Vogt was coaching on the bench last night, and sat right next to JL. I expect he will fill the assistant slot for the rest of the season.

I made similar statements when it was announced that Coach Merf was resigning. However, many people ignored those statements.

I have no problems with Kyle being moved into the Assistant position. Kyle has been on staff for approximately 5 years (?) and deserves to stop making pennies, but I do take issue with Kyle being given more on court duty than Coach Brooks immediately (if that happens). I think Coach Brooks has done an excellent job recruiting, now he needs to be given the opportunity to elevate himself the way EB has (not saying he should be higher than EB on staff, just stating that he should be given an opportunity to prove himself the same way EB has).

This is the manager in me coming out, but don't you want a staff that is well-rounded meaning that they can recruit and coach?

Would you rather have Coach 1 who is an A+ recruiter, but C coaching ability and Coach B with C-level recruiting and A+ coaching... or... two B-level coaches in recruiting and coaching?

I'd personally rather have an all-star recruiter and a great in-game assistant. Let them specialize! Having too many people talking to you during a game wouldn't be all that helpful, I would think. Though I've never been in a situation like this, so who knows! :)

I think the NCAA would frown on us hiring Jeff Wilkins, unfortunately. I don't think they'd have a problem with us hiring Taylor Brown's father though.

Manning and many other fathers have followed their sons. We would not be setting a precedence. I say **** the torpedoes and if this is a good way of getting him and the younger Wilkins let's go for it! I'm sick of all the other schools bending the rules and here we have a chance to bend them in our favor and we'll probably step back. As an institution we do have some political clout, let's use it.:-o

I know it probably wont happen but a coach that could possibly be a Jerrance Howard is Marcus Griffin. He was a good big ten player. He could do a good job with the big men and help recruiting wise. Just my opinion..

Just my opinion, but I prefer to see Bradley NOT fill a position with someone who is Orange & Blue.

Orange & Blue, Black & Blue I do not care where they come from, east coast, west coast as long as they are winners and are the best fit possibly for our program. Why is there this concern (MM I know where you are coming from) where people are from? Xenophobia, but for basketball people not from the state of Illinois or for some from certain programs is just comical and not logical. :-o

I hadn't thought about that....I would like it just to see MM's reaction:-D

I bet you would Lefty.

Honestly - I think there is a better chance of Dick Versace signing on as an Asst Coach at Bradley than Marcus Griffin. ;-)

I was thinking Sergio....he does have experience you know:):)

Thanks for clearing it up for me. ;)

Agree with: Sergio has some experience.

However...

IMO, I do not believe Sergio would be a good fit for Bradley.

I am not saying Sergio isn't capable.

I'm just saying I believe Sergio is not a good fit at Bradley.

Actually I was totally kidding...just forgot the wink.;)......Sergio would not be a good fit IMO either.

I'm not sure his coaching experience here in whatever type of league he was coaching is all that valuable
