Dave Reynolds says this..
"The total of 7,605 who paid to see the Southern Illinois-Bradley game on
Wednesday is the lowest ticket sale for an SIU game at Carver Arena since
1992-93, when the paid attendance was 7,023"

and Kirk Wessler said this...
"Attendance listed at 7604. I'm guessing about 5,000 actually in the seats."

Here's a comparison of where we were at this precise time, each of the past 3 seasons ....

Average home attendance in 2011-2012 after the 2nd home conference game: 6945
Average home attendance in 2010-2011 after the 2nd home conference game: 8150
Average home attendance in 2009-2010 after the 2nd home conference game: 8993

Just to be fair - I will note that one of our home games this year was at Renaissance and drew 4340 or so and that accounts for some of the dropoff..
but let's say that game was at Carver - it most surely wouldn't have drawn any more than the UMKC or Wofford games - around 7000- 7100 - so adjusting for that - the current home attendance might be up to around 7350 - still way, way down from any season in anyone's recent memory...

Its the idea that it was SIU usuly one of the bigger crowds of the yr, I am optimistic about the rest of this season, It all starts with Saturday, What if as bad as these last two seasons have been there are 8 to 9000 there Saturday and a huge roar when the team comes out of the tunnel, Everyone standing and clapping with the fight song and YELLING B>>>R>>>>A>>>D>>>LEY, I know I'm dreaming but I think it would really say somthing about our fans and program might make a difference might not.

I had to sit one out after the 39 point loss debacle. There's four or five tickets that didn't sell for the Southern game...sure this is a common story.

Attendance after the first 3 conference games last year was 24,284 and 28,482 the year before that.

After 2 conference games this season, we're sitting at 14,788.

Hope to have a great crowd tonight to show the kids who are giving their best "once a Braves Fan always a Braves Fan."

I'm rolling about 10 deep Ill be buzzer to buzzer, product on the floor and my antics will determine how long the others stay, I got a good feeling tho no one is going anywhere tonight, anyone know how many tickets have been sold as of now? I know tickets sold do not mean a loud and present crowd but still just wonderin. I suggest Mortal Kombat theme song for pre game! LOL A Boring chant during pre game maybe just what the crowd

No doubt that poor attendance can be attributed to myriad factors.

1. Poor product on the floor and talent level
2. Dissatisfaction with coaching staff and style of play
3. Fan base disenfranchised with the administration
4. Win/loss record
5. Economy
6. Quality of opponent

And so on, and so forth....

1. Still Braves
2. Give them a chance to improve the program
3. Still Braves no matter what the Admin did. I wasn't happy when DV was fired, but stuck with the Braves
4. Still Braves
5. Always a good excuse now days
6. Should pack the place then.

I'd say less for #2, 3 and 5, and more emphasis on the other points. I think most fans aren't dissatisfied with the coaching staff, even if they are questioning his offensive system. Give them till year 3, and I think most fans will have an idea if the arrow is pointing up by that time.

A lot of fans may be disenfranchised with the administration, but I don't think that leads to a lot of them boycotting the games, as most would not want to take out their frustrations with the administration on the players and coaches who have nothing to do with them (other than the coaches being hired by them). I think most fans speak through their donations (or lack thereof) to the school when it concerns their like or dislike of the adminstration.

And while the sluggish economy plays a part in attendance, I think it's much less of a factor than in previous years since our program has hit rock bottom now. Plus the economy, while still bad seems to have leveled off, at least for now (not saying it can't get worse again though).

I would say that poor product and talent level on the court, and win/loss record are the two biggest factors that will ALWAYS lead to poor attendance faster than people can blink. And this goes for just about every sports team at any level throughout the world. Poor quality of opponent is a big factor as well, BUT only when a team is already bad. This becomes less of a factor the better the team is, as people will go to see a great team put on a show against a bad opponent any day. But as we have also seen recently, poor attendence was a factor against a great Wichita St. team as well, once again due to poor product and win/loss record.

In short, attendance will improve really quick once our team starts winning games again, especially at home.

Don't forget about the NFL, for those that need to make that choice.

I think as soon as this team starts winning 20 games during the regular season, we'll start seeing 10,000 people in the building on a regular basis.

Winning cures all ills.
