Follow this logic:
-We lost due to lack of defensive rebounding.
-Coach recruited this "so-called" massive rebounder.
-For whatever reason he does not play.
-He does not play, and therefore, cannot rebound.
-Because this rebounder does not play we have to play freshman who made many freshman mistakes and one of them is small and can't rebound and the other is weak.
-Review: Bradley loses due to lack of rebounding.
-My simpleton conclusion (that I know I will get torched for): forget all the other analysis--we lost because Austin is not ready to play. Austin, either get ready to play or _______.

Maybe Austin can fake an injury and get a medical redshirt, being that he has only played about 2 minutes this year. The lack of playing time tells me he is obviously not ready to play at this level, and 9 games into the season it doesn't look very promising that he will be ready to play for the Braves this year.

I hope that I'm wrong, but the way it is going, I don't know if this kid is going to be around next year...

-MML

IMO not one of the recruits have lived up to the hype they received when they were recruited. Sam M and Wilson come close. Austin couldn't play any worse defense than Collins. Almost wish Thompson wouldn't have red shirted. Egolf has to quit the 3 point shooting and mix it up underneath.

What are you talking about? Wilson starts for us and has been unbelieveable and has proved me wrong time and time again after I never saw why this kid would play. Sam M has proved to me the last couple of games that he should be starting over Andrew Warren. Warren has had 2 good games so far but other than that he has been in the dark. As far as Collins goes, everyone complains that the kid isnt getting anymore PT. I know he got pushed around last night but we wont be seeing those type of players besides faulker until tourny time. Egolf has also showed me something and has improved throughout the year. I agree he need to stop shooting the 3 but he has played some valuable minutes for us this year. Dont forget we still are 6-3 with these guys playing for us and could easily be 9-0 since every game year we have been within a basket of taking the lead in the final minutes.

As for Austin, I wish he hadnt played at all yet like Sweatman and Thompson and should take a redshirt. However, the garbage time that I did see him play he look very mobile and impressive and I am trying to figure out why he isnt getting a chnace. I am not sure on the rules, but I don't know why he would transfer after this year considering i think he might lose a year of playing time and also might have to sit out a year. Not sure about that but I do think he could play a big part in next years team

Right on, Heemymonster. I think Egolf should keep shooting the three, actually, because I think once it begins to fall it will keep falling. The guy was a good outside shooter in high school, so he just needs confidence, I think.

The only player that's been disappointing for me is Cole-Scott, but I believe there's a good chance that he'll have a breakout game and start earning some minutes back before too long (was hoping it would've been last night).

I completely agree with both statements. It seems Egolf is a little nervous- missing shots completely is only a matter of nerves.

NO, NO, NO!

He does not hesitate to launch the 3 so I don't think confidence is a problem. What is a problem is 0 for 9 from beyond the arc. And 2 for 13 in 2006 in high school is only 15%.

2006 high school stats.

I had never seen his high school stats, and had based that statement on his reputation coming here on outside shooting. Based on those stats, I think he shouldn't be taking threes. :)

I will say though, just because he doesn't hesitate when he shoots does not mean he's confident. I never played basketball competitively, but did play a lot of baseball. When I wasn't confident pitching, I still threw the ball, I just got inside my head and threw the ball wrong if that makes any sense.

Read what I said Heemymonster. I said Wilson and Sam come close to the hype they received. I didn't expect Sam to be as good a scorer as he was in high school, but he sure brings it on the court.

Yea i read what you said and I disagree, they don't come close they HAVE lived up to their hype. Did people think wilson was going to average 20 and 10 like he did in JUCO? NO. Did pepole think Sam was going to average 17 point and 5 assists or whatever he average in high school? NO. But what I am seeing from them now is more than I ever would have a thought a 6'5 JUCO power forward and a true freshman would do in their first year at BU

I dont think playing RA in the MSU game would have been a good idea.

he's played 1 game and we were up what 30 points?
he has not had time to get used to playing at Carver. He's only watched the games.
The crowd was NUTS (which is great), but that does very little to help the nerves.
This was a big game that was close. That ALSO doesn't help with the nerves.

Not playing him was a good choice.
Playing him in the earlier games to get some time under his belt would have been a good choice.

it's an If then statement

IF Austin played more than just one game that was already sealed THEN we could have utilized his skills against MSU.

It would be nice to see a practice to know why Austin isn't getting off the bench. He was the most hyped in my opinion. I think there was a thread before the practices starting asking who each poster thought would have the most impact.

I think Egolf is having a hard time being a role player. I assume he was 'the man' in high school. I don't mind the one three pointer per game. I was more frustrated at the forced shot a couple trips later.

I had no expectations for Wilson. I heard "athletic Juco with no outside shot" and thought he would be riding the bench. Who'd a thought the guy could rebound and play defense.

Well, if you believe the "well lubricated" MSU fans behind me, they were screaming at MSU when they left that "white guy" wide open for three. "Never leave the white guy open for 3!"

This is the higest ranked incomming class BU has had in some time, but it appears past classes had players more capable of making a more immediate impact. As I just mentioned in the "starting lineup" thread Give BU first year Boogin instead of Wilson, and I bet BU wins last night. Or give us first year Bennet/Franklin instead of TCS and we win last night. I guess we got spoiled in the past.

I'm certainly not giving up on our new guys, and honestly believe the Warren senior year could be at least as insane as the S16 year. (SM, Egolf and Thompson as Jr's)

Just to clarify (& nitpick)...Thompson will be a soph. during Warren's senior year...not a jr.

Bennett in his 9th game:
18 pts 5 Rb's 2 Assist 3 turnovers 4 Steals 34 minutes

Boogie in his 9th game:
5 pts 4 Rb's 1 Block 1 Steal 11 minutes

Franklin in his 9th game:
5 pts 3 Rb's 4 Assists 1 Turnover 1 Steal 13 minutes

Theron Wilson in his 9th game:
9 pts 3 Rb's 1 Assist 1 Turnover 2 Steals 33 minutes

Ty Cole-Scott in his 9th game:
1 Assist 1 Turnover 2 minutes

Good post MM

I think one thing to keep in mind is the fact that the game was a big deal
and the nerves were probably running wild with Theron.

During the calling of the starting line up when they were in the middle as Ruff, JC, Salley were all being introduced...he was jumping up and down and getting really into it...moreso than I have seen in the other games.

the point i'm trying to make is that the games Will and co. played in were probably not as big as the games that Theron just played in.

I had to look back too to see what these other Juco guys mentioned did during their first nine games. I know it doesn't tell the whole story, but here are their scoring averages:

Tony Bennett 11.5 ppg
Lawrence Wright 9.4 ppg
Will Franklin had yet to score though the first nine games (sat 6 for suspension)

The first two had the benefit of a Canadian trip. I think this team really could have used something like that this year.

In 33 minutes TW took 4 shots and 3 rebounds. I don't call that living up to the hype. SM had the same amount of shots and rebounds in 23 minutes and made things happen, good and bad, when he was in there. I hope eventually he lives up to the hpye, but right now he's just close.

OK TW is doing following closely enough on the Boogie path. But, I will take that Bennet line last night, please!

I do clearly remember the higest ranked opponent home game of the season Boogie's first year was the much later in the season WSU game. Boogie's near game ending (heck it was practically WSU's season ending...) dunk on a career night would of been the college play of the day if a better camera angle was available....

I NEVER suggested playing Austin in the MSU game. What I stated was that if he was the player that was advertised he would have played and made an impact. But he is not yet that player and it is too bad that it has turned out this way so far. If this were professional sports, I would demand an answer from the coaches about Austin. However, these are college kids and I just want to see them all succeed in and out of the classroom. On the flip side of that argument, I do pay a hefty price for 4 season tickets and it would be nice to know a little more about what is going on!
