Bad day in central illinois news

Don't forget that most of central Illinois is in extreme drought conditions. Now lets see if someone blames Obama for that.

Too late, he already blamed Bush. In fact I heard after the earthquake out East he named the fault that caused it Bush's Fault.

Hahahaha. I'm guessing the Bush Fault goes from D.C. down to the East border of Texas so when a major earthquake hits, Texas will actually physically secede from the union.

Furthermore to claim that the stimulus created "no jobs" is a false assertion that conservatives use. Factcheck.org has sited this numerous statements from the CBO.

"The truth is that the stimulus increased employment by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million people, compared with what employment would have been otherwise. That??™s according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office."

Simply put, more people would be unemployed if not for the stimulus bill. The exact number of jobs created and saved is difficult to estimate, but nonpartisan economists say there??™s no doubt that the number is positive."

Benny, reading the press releases carefully, all most of the Obama stimulus bill did was extend Federal Welfare to teachers, fire, police and other public servants under the name "stimulus"...The stimulus plan allowed these public employees to stay on the job using federal money to pay them...no different than high cost welfare. I love the fine print, the exact number of jobs created AND saved is difficult to estimate but "no doubt" is positive...These are the same economists that think 7 Trillion in debt is ok...and can't tell what is happening tomorrow. NO ACTUAL STATISTICS EXIST...I don't put a lot of faith in "NO DOUBT"....

Barack and his economic genius's stated the Federal Money give away would "churn", or turnover in the economy, and result in multiple trillions of GDP leading us out of the recession....unfortunately, didn't happen.....all people did was pay off debt they had already incurred.

I have some Labor Day thoughts...
maybe he needs to get off the bus they just flew him to and set up the teleprompters and read some more words some of his speechwriters penned for him..
....but I am not fooled - he does NOT have a clue to a plan...
the real plan that would lead to much more hiring is to tell every business in the US that the government is getting out of their lives, will not mandate new things like health care, and will NOT add new regulations and taxes..

I thought government did just that from around 1982 through Fall 2008....... Look what it gave us. :?

Was Karl Marx partially right about Capitalism? -- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14764357

what? since when in your or my lifetime has government ever gotten out of our lives??
It just isn't happening but it would be nice

Karl Marx's system hasn't exactly shown any record of success anywhere, has it?

The article points out the failure of his system; I'm also no proponent of Communism. I have been a GREAT beneficiary of a capitalist society. :) What the article does a good job of explaining is the ultimate failure of Capitalism and how it may eventually lead to self-destruction; I tend to agree with that part.

Reagan did a great job of reducing government in our lives and look at the prosperity that it created. Unfortunately, Bush/Clinton/Bush/Congress continued to strip away government regulations and went too far. Thus, we had Wall Street and the Banking system literally rape our country of trillions of dollars of wealth that we will never see again; we will be paying for this mess for the remaider of our lifetime. :( Believe it not, there are SOME things that government must regulate or you end up with what we see today. Obama DID NOT create the mess we are in today. But, unfortunately, he has not done anything to make things any better. BHO had his chance and he blew it! Now, he too must go!

I agree there needs to be restraints on capitalism, which there are. But nobody denies that it is the system that leads most often to prosperity, and progress. 99% of all patents, industrial advancements, new medicines and medical breakthroughs, and new developments that benefit mankind come from capitalist societies.
Profit is a wonderful incentive. The good of the state (Marx's idea) is not.

I don't think anyone here is advocating marxism.

The closest the Marxian ideal came to working is when 1,000 or so Jews had to hide in the woods from Nazis during WWII. Everything was split up with everyone. They lived in this Marxian society for a couple of years until the war was over. There's a slightly watchable Daniel Craig movie that's slightly based on it but w/e.

This one act of survival is the only time Marxian ideals ever worked, so yeah, Marx society would never work.

But I believe in the invisible hand more then anything when it comes to economics. Thinking that a President can control the invisible hand is ridiculous, but believing that a series of Presidents (Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama) not handling the economy in a consistent or good way could alter the invisible hand is very possible. There or 100,000s of jobs out there in America, but most Americans don't have the required training.

That is the biggest fault of our government over the past 20 years or so. Our education system doesn't prepare the kids for those kind of skilled jobs and the laws/taxes/expansion of government started by Bush and continued by Obama scare away most companies from wanting to be here.

There's a reason Michael Corleone went to Cuba in The Godfather Part II.:D
Of course, Castro soon put a stop to that.

It does seem as though you have to look dreadfully hard to find good news these days. So sad - nice work news outlets.

The economy out here in Silicon Valley is doing very well. The economy is based on rewarding new ideas, hard work, the global economy and a talent pool of highly educated and skilled workers. The little there was of manufacturing has pretty much dried up. Our economy, as a nation, will be very regional for the foreseeable future. I recommend that graduates head out to these hubs depending on their major. You may struggle a bit but you'll be in a good position for the future. Central Illinois is not the future unfortunately.

All good points. I might suggest people be open to going even further. There are a lot of opportunities in emerging markets.

There are some great opportunities for highly skilled workers in emerging markets but you need to go beyond just a BS for someone to hand you over a work VISA. Learn a few languages and diversify your skills and anything is possible with the right attitude. Americans are still known for their work ethic and ingenuity. There is also the opportunity to take an American based cultural business to an emerging market and make a great living.
