Beas Hamga Decommits

My mistake...I thought he was a senior. We already have Thompson and X on the way. Considering the competition, I don't think he's worth our time.

Hamga may a little more advanced and offensively skilled than most 7 footers coming out of HS. He would be a very good player for the MVC, but will likely go higher.
There are teams like UNLV, Tennessee, Indiana, Florida, Kentucky, UConn, Georgetown and Memphis contacting him.

Yeah... if he was a senior we might have been able to slip in somehow, but as a junior I think we really don't have a chance.

I took a couple days off when the Tournament of Champions was in town last Thanksgiving, and watched several games involving Matt Roth, BU recruit Anthony Thompson, Boys to Men, and Decatur Christian, as well as other teams.

Here are the comments I made back then, but note the single guy I was impressed the most by was Hamga, who clearly looked like he could step right in at D-I even now and be a star.
He is said to be Class of 2008, but wanted to try to get qualified and play in 2007, although I suspect the departure of Alford and his reopening recruitment means he will not go to college this fall.

A new premium Rivals article about 7-footer Beas Hamga of Decatur Christian--
http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=2&c=632399

It reports that the first coach to contact him after he decommitted from Iowa and reopened his recruiting was Kelvin Sampson of Indiana.

Here is a clip from the article titled--
"Hoosiers in quick contact with Hamga"
Just days after the 6-11, 230-pound center from Decatur (Ill.) Christian Prep School re-opened his recruitment last week, Hamga was sitting down with IU Coach Kelvin Sampson and IU Assistant Coach Jeff Meyer to talk about the Hoosier program as a potential college destination.

???‚¬?“He was in Bloomington when he decided to re-open things and he came up with his list and put IU on it,???‚¬?? Decatur Christian Coach Alan Huss said. ???‚¬?“I think they set it up for him to come over and talk to coach (Sampson) while he was in town.???‚¬??

A one-time verbal commit to Iowa, Hamga decided to reconsider his college options after Alford left the Hawkeyes for New Mexico. He???‚¬?„?s since come out with a new list of schools that includes Indiana, Florida, Kentucky, UConn, Georgetown, Memphis and UNLV.

He is Class of 2008, presently a junior.
As I said in my other comments last fall, though, many of these foreign players have ages that are hard to determine with certainty, although it really doesn't matter since the only governing body, IHSA, isn't involved since Decatur Christian doesn't play in IHSA.
Let's put it this way, if you told me he was under 20 years of age, I would NOT believe you, and the same goes with several of his teammates Staiger, Stula, and Bjegovic.

There are discussions on the IU premium board claiming Hamga is going to announce for Indiana this coming week.
IU is apparently in the lead for Tyler Zeller, and this might affect his choice.

Thanks T! Would he still be trying to qualify this year (2007), or would that be next?
