Best team in each state

and how many times have we seen a prediction of Northwestern having a good year?
It is quite possible that again for the 3rd consecutive year, no team inside of Illinois would be in the NCAA

The next time Northwestern does something relevant will the first time. I suppose people mention them because they believe that they have to make the tournament someday.

To your second point, I think it's likely even more than possible.

I think it is something like 5 of the last 8 years no team from Illinois has made the NCAA tournament.

Some interesting info here. The last time each of the D-I teams in the state of Illinois made the NCAA tournament:

U of I - 2013
SIU - 2007
Bradley -2006
DePaul - 2004
UIC - 2004
EIU - 2001
ISU - 1998
NIU - 1996
Northwestern - NEVER
WIU - NEVER

I think BU has as much chance to be the next team from Illinois as anyone does...

and good thing last year they didn't do the best team in each county - cuz suspect Bradley wouldn't have even won for Peoria County

Sun times has a column about the best teams in the State of Illinois....
there's mention of Coach Wardle, Alec Peters, Josh Cunningham, ISU, EIU, etc..
http://suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2015/09/23/henricksen-state-programs-looking-state-recruits/

a little over the top.... using words like "terrific", "pointing up", "..should keep in-state recruits intrigued", "knocking on the NCAA Tournament door",
"tantalizing", "terrific job targeting the right prospects", "difference-makers"...etc...
