Big Brown

I am still puzzled after reading that...

Why if the horse had a shoe hanging loose, did they NOT know it until someone else revealed it from
enhanced photos taken of the horse during the race?
Surely the trainer or someone in Big Brown's camp would have found the loose shoe, or if the nail
"went back in but not in the same spot", wouldn't you think someone could have figured that out?

Second, if this is indeed the case....and I am no horse racing expert, but I have NEVER heard of a top horse
in a top race losing because of a shoe problem. So I'd have to wonder how it could happen with all that's at stake?
It would be like some guy running the 100 meter dash at the Olympics, who figures out 1/2 way through the race,
that he only has one shoe on!
Someone needs to get fired over this or was there intent??
If there was intent, then it makes some sense since a few people betting against a horse that's 6 to 5 could make a ton of $$.

New photos show pretty undeniable evidence that the loose shoe theory my indeed explain Big Brown's performance in the Belmont. It also looks like the shoe never did re-set itself, as pictures even as the horse finished the race still show the dislodged shoe.

It looks like it happened right out of the gate when Big Brown's right rear foot was stepped on by another horse, Guadalcanal--

And here is a closeup of a newly released photo showing the loose shoe--
