Big Men

Seems like they keep pushing Coach Stowell farther away from the program. He is the only one on the radio broadcasts that calls it straight.

They don't even let him ask Coach Les questions after the games most of the time.

I love what Coach Stowell has meant to BU, and will continue to support him as long as he can do radio broadcasts.

But, his voice is no longer clear enough for AM radio, and he is getting older. For a few years, he has left radio broadasts early (after post game stats). I always thought it was an old age courtesy BU was extending Coach Stowell, not a force out, but his desire to get home closer to a normal time...

That is certainly the story that is told now.

I think Coach is great and should always be a part of BU basketball. He did as much as anyone for BU.

There is a guy close to the BU program that was great at developing big men. We just need him to come out of retirement for a bit. You wonder if JL has even asked him (Coach Stowell) for some help in developing the bigs on the team. If he hasn't asked then he should.

I used to sweat my arse off chasing basketballs as Coach Stowell worked with Xanthus Houston after regular practice around 1990. He would scream at me as loudly as at X. You know what they say about chicken salad?:)

P.S. If I hear one more person pine for Matt Salley over the bigs we have now I think I will get sick. I think "absence makes the hear grow fonder."

I hear you and I really see where you are coming from. He wasn't that great. I think he is much better at the center position that Egolf at this point. I think Will is a lot more talented and still has time to develop though.

I was as critical of Salley as anyone, but compared to Sam Singh I would take the guy in a heartbeat! Look at what we're dealing with here!

I work with a guy right now who played at Stony Brook and then overseas for years that has attended some games with me and said he would love to have the opportunity to teach BU's big men. When he saw David Collins the last two seasons he was almost salivating at what he thought DC could develop into with a little help. I've played with this guy and he has a limitless amount of moves in the post. IMO, BU needs someone like this who has great experience with post play to develop our bigs properly.

BB just do me one favor...go back just a little farther if necessary in BU history and beg for someone else to be the backup instead of MS.

Ok...anyone who can defend the post and is 6'7" or taller. I see Chad Klein and Roger Phegley at the games, do they have any eligibility left?

Chad Klein was the original Sam Singh.

Perhaps at the beginning of his career when Albeck let him feast on potato chips and Taco Bell. By the time he finished up under Mo, he was in shape, deadly from 3 at the top of the key, and could defend and rebound inside. I recall him having a couple of 20+ point games his senior year. When Singh ever gets close to that, let me know.

BTW - Just a thought here, but Chad Klein wasn't looking like he was going to amount to much in a BU uniform when Stan was here. A new guy was brought in, Chad stayed, and ended up having a very nice career and perhaps even exceeding expectations. Just goes to show that a new guy can make a difference with a player. ;)

I only meant in terms of length of time here.

Chad certainly contributed much more.

Maybe they want Coach Les to get a word in edge wise.

Chad never played for Albeck. He was recruited by Stan, but was a frosh in Molinary's first year.

So are you going to apologize for the wise comments regarding potato chips and taco bell?;)

I recall Chad telling the story more than once of how out of shape he was, how his diet consisted of potato chips and Taco Bell, and how Coach Mo got him into shape. I may be off by a year, but I could have sworn he got in one season with Albeck in 90-91.

It would definitely be nice if Salley syddenly found a few more games of eligibility, but as far as who is better right now, you might get some who disagree...

Matt Salley's best year produced 6 pt/6 rebs
Will is producing currently 8 pt/5 rebs..but we are seeing improvement game to game...
both were hard workers but Matt was limited a bit by his 6-7 size..

I don't think anyone wants him in place of WE, rather as a front line compliment to him. I know I will take WE 100 times out of 100 if those are my choices.
