The Big 12 hasn't had much to brag about in the postseason yet (though that has not stopped some from bragging). Maybe Texas and Kansas can bail out the conference today.

In the NCAA--
4th place finisher Texas A&M was the only Big 12 winner, so far, with a nice win over a hot Syracuse team 66-58

12th seeded Wisconsin-Milwaukee upset 3rd place Oklahoma 82-74

The MVC is 1-0 in the NCAA, so far, with Wichita State's surprisingly easy win over Seton Hall 86-66. Did these guys even belong in the tournament?

In the NIT--
Miami beat Oklahoma State 62-59. Eddie Sutton can now concentrate on his rehab.

Old Dominion pounded Colorado 79-61 at Boulder, CO. Colorado was the best Big 12 team in the NIT. ODU was the 4th place team in the Colonial Atletic Assn.

Nebraska lost to Hofstra 73-62. Another CAA team embarrasses the Big 12. This game at the tiny Hofsta gym outdrew the game at Colorado (3614 to 2890)

By contrast, the Missouri Valley went 1-0 in the NIT--
Creighton (still playing without their 2 best players Funk and Dotzler) over Akron 71-60

Missouri State plays Stanford tonight in the NIT. Here are all the results

But we have seen so far that the Big East was obviously overrated.
Rutgers, Syracuse, Marquette, Seton Hall have all lost and several of the Big East have yet to play.

At the beginning of the Big XII season every school in the Big XII knew that it was going to be a crappy year. Everyone picked Texas and Okla. to be the cream of the crop by a wide margin. People were looking at Okla. State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas to be fighting for all the middle spots in the conference. We all knew that it was going to be an off year, but wow did it turn out worse than expected. OSU, TT and ISU basically tanked. Okla was not nearly as good as expected. Texas looked good, but showed lapses ... as the year went along Kansas and A&M matured some and started to make a move.

My point is ... the Big XII knew that we were going to be down this year, it turned out worse that we thought it was going to be. Personally, I dont know any Big XII people that are bragging on the conference as a whole this year. Individual teams are talking though. Texas is very good. A&M is very good. And as a Kansas fan this is the most fun I have had during a College Basketball season in a long time. I have not only gotten to watch a team mature, but I have gotten to see a team go through the season without the huge weight of ungodly expectations hanging over their heads.

Bottom line ... outside of a few teams the Big XII is not good this year. It will be back ... and soon.

Is it not also interesting that the Big 12 has now to rely on their "football" schools from the Southwest Conference to carry their torch in the tourney? There has never been a Big 12 champion in basketball that was not from the Big 8 before the merger. Wonder how many of those Kansas fans will be back here saying congrats.

Actually one of them did, and e mailed me even after his signon was banned for something that was said on this board.

At the game Friday night, I thought the KU fans were classy and gracious, and wished BU well, although they sure did beat the heck out of the Palace as fast as imaginable.

Here is an e mail send to me by CyprusXX

Great game Braves' fans. After watching this game, I really couldn't have told you who the more talented team was. I really believe that speaks to the great skill of your league and the parity of college basketball. The Braves deserved everything they got and were the better period. I'm glad you flexed your muscles form the Missouuri Valley and showed those East Coast Bias fools what basketball is really about. Flat out, O'Bryant and Sommeriville were just better than what we could offer. It saddens me as a KU fan, but it's life. Anyways......Congrats on the win, the Braves are clearly the better team. You all deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Update-

The Big 12 remains 0-3 in the NIT, with all 3 teams now out of the NIT.
The Missouri Valley is 2-0 with Creighton's win over Akron, and Missouri State's big win over Stanford

In the NCAA--
The Big 12 went 2-2 in the first round games. Texas A&M won on Thursday, while Oklahoma lost. On Friday, Texas barely won, and of course, Kansas was whipped by Bradley.

The MVC finishes the first round 2-2 with WSU and Bradley winning and UNI and SIU losing to higher seeds.

Which conference is better?
Where are all those cowardly Kansas fans that were trash talking here all week?

ESPN had an interesting look at conference tournament champions that lost their first NCAA game. From the multi-bid conferences, this lineup would make for a great tournament in Maui or Anchorage!

Nevada-WAC
Iowa-Big 10
Syracuse-Big East
Southern Illinois-MVC
Kansas-Big 12
San Diego State-MWC
NC-Wilmington-CAA
Xavier-Atlantic 10
