BracketBusters 2010

Bobby Cremins and a team that beat UNC coming to Peoria to play another team that's slayed several giants in recent years would be a great storyline for TV. Give me C of C!

My latest projected projections:

ESPN2
1) Old Dominion @ Northern Iowa (CAA #1 vs. MVC #1) - You might as well pencil this one in at this point
2) Siena @ Butler (MAAC #1 vs. Horizon #1) - Ditto this one. Quite frankly, they're the 4 stalwarths of the competition
3) William & Mary @ Iona (CAA #4 vs. MAAC #2) - With W&M slipping in the CAA and Iona rising in the MAAC, I think this game makes more sense now than the WMU-MizzouSt game I've been projecting all along
4) Louisiana Tech @ VCU (WAC #1 vs. CAA #2) - Here's me predicting VCU will get themselves past GMU and N'eastern in the next month. And it's time to take LT seriously, finally
5) Wichita St @ Utah St (MVC #2 vs. WAC #2) - Someone has to go out west, unfortunately for WSU, they're 5th in a BracketBuster with 4 marquee teams

ESPNU
6) Charleston @ Bradley (SoCon #1 vs. MVC #3) - Almost went with Kent St or Northeastern here instead of Bradley, could swing any number of ways
7) Nevada @ Pacific (WAC #3 vs. Big West #1) - With Nevada slipping in the WAC they lose priority
8 )Western Carolina @ Kent St (SoCon #2 vs. MAC #1) - MAC #1 deserves better than this, probably
9) Morgan St @ Murray St (MEAC #1 vs. OVC #1) - No at large impact, so give the conference leaders a TV game
10) Buffalo @ Northeastern (MAC #2 vs. CAA #5) - Northeastern should drop a bit in the standings and RPI
11) Fairfield @ George Mason (MAAC #3 vs. CAA #3) - Self-explanatory

ESPN360
12) Akron @ Green Bay (MAC #3 vs. Horizon #2) - This means only 1 Horizon on TV. I want to find a spot for UWGB above, but where? Maybe N'eastern if they slip
13) New Mexico St @ Missouri St (WAC #4 vs. MVC #4) - This is clearly very low for the #4 MVC team, but tell me who you'd bump ahead of them

No TV notables

Home
Illinois St (MVC #5)
Creighton (MVC #6)
Radford (Big South #1)
Vermont (AEast #1)

Away
Indiana St (MVC #7)
Western Michigan (MAC #4)

Once again, the home/road imbalance comes into play.

As for the MVC only getting 3 on TV, that'll change. I just don't think anyone knows who'll be in the top half of the standings at this point.

I want College of Charleston.

I goofed, skipped over and missed Coll of Charleston.

My predictions with them in the mix slips them into a matchup with us. Thanks BB.

Definite tv games:
UNI vs ODU
Butler vs Siena
Utah St vs Wichita St
Kent vs Nevada
Northeastern vs Fairfield
Murray St vs Western Carolina
Pacific vs Louisiana Tech
Radford vs Boston
Iona vs William & Mary
VCU vs Buffalo
Bradley vs College of Charleston

2 of next 4 get tv:
UW-Green Bay vs Indiana St
Missouri St vs W Michigan
Ohio vs Wright St
Appalachian St vs Morehead St

Other matchups:
Austin Peay vs Akron
Creighton vs UC-Santa Barbara
Illinois St vs New Mexico St
George Mason vs Oral Roberts
Bowling Green vs Drexel
Vermont vs Rider

I'd really enjoy it if we could win enough games in sequence that we could get onto the deuce and get Louisiana Tech in here...

Besides, the only thing better than being on the deuce is being on the ocho ;-)

Well, it's pretty clear: Win 2 games this week and you're on The Deuce if you're Bradley.

If we make TV this year after not making TV during those other years, I will have a hearty chuckle.

p.s. Katz is on crack. ODU won't get Green Bay. No way they allow that to happen.

I still want Charleston. It fits.

Had we not lost those home games, we might be getting a rematch with ODU.

Gotta split at minimum this week to get that TV game...

Regardless of what happens tonight, BU/ISU just may be a de facto elimination game.

I like Charleston too. But the more I think about it, with our RPI in the 70s, some away bubble team will need a team with stronger computer numbers. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if William & Mary tries to slip into our slot. Or Louisiana Tech. Many possibilites are in play. Or it could be a Nevada team looking for a solid return game.

There are many quality non-local options this year. Get it done, Les.

Side story is developing: What the heck is ESPN going to do with the CAA?

William & Mary are the media darlings
VCU was the preseason favorite, which means ESPN's radar was on them the most
Northeastern has the computer numbers
Old Dominion has the best overall profile
George Mason actually leads the conference

All 5 are making TV, it looks like, but the pecking order is going to be a disaster. Someone is going to get hurt by BB here.

You said it TAS!

I was thinking sorta the same thing on my way home tonight.

Coll of Charleston just slipped out of our grasp a little. But we do play 2 more games before the BB Committee pretty much decides who's gonna be playing who on tv.

So what does this loss to Creighton mean?

Like you said - Someone is gonna get hurt by playing Bradley in the BB... if they are looking for a good "RPI Road Win".

I'll run the numbers again tomorrow morning and post maybe around the noon hour (Palm's RPI doesn't update til tomorrow morning).

I think a couple of them might want Bradley. We have a Top 100 RPI that a couple of other teams don't have (UWGB for one, George Mason for another).

The danger here is simple: BU/ISU may become a BB play-in game. The loser misses BB. Creighton could be one win away this weekend from jumping BOTH BU and ISU, RPI be darned.

But we do play 2 more games before the BB Committee pretty much decides who's gonna be playing who on tv.

Also - I goofed. I was thinking announcements were Feb 6th... they are not... TV Matchups will be announced Monday Feb 1st.

The ISU game is HUGE!

Our fates change daily.

ESPN2
1) Siena @ Butler (MAAC #1 vs. Horizon #1) - Obvious
2) Old Dominion @ Northern Iowa (CAA #1 vs. MVC #1) - Obvious
3) Wichita St @ Utah St (MVC #2 vs. WAC #2) - I just can't find a good place for WSU. Perhaps Kent St instead of USU
4) William & Mary @ Kent St (CAA #3 vs. MAC #1) - WMU is lucky the power of the CAA is on the home side of the split
5) Louisiana Tech @ George Mason (WAC #1 vs. CAA #2) - LT gets a name opponent

The U
6) Charleston @ VCU (SoCon #1 vs. CAA #4) - This is me putting faith in VCU
7) Nevada @ Creighton (WAC #3 vs. MVC #3) - That's right, all of a sudden it's Creighton in the MVC 3 hole
8 ) Western Carolina @ Murray St (SoCon #2 vs. OVC #1) - Self-explanatory, IMO
9) New Mexico St @ Pacific (WAC #4 vs. Big West #1) - 4 teams for the WAC is too many, but otherwise, someone would have to travel big
10) Akron @ Green Bay (MAC #2 vs. Horizon #2) - Self-explanatory
11) Fairfield @ Northeastern (MAAC #3 vs. CAA #5) - N'eastern sorta gets screwed here

ESPN360
12) Morehead St @ Illinois St (OVC #2 vs. MVC #4) - Poor ISU
13) Morgan St @ Iona (MEAC #1 vs. MAAC #2) - Both deserve ESPNU but won't get it

Break it down!
CAA 5
MVC 4
WAC 4
MAAC 3
SoCon 2
MAC 2
Horizon 2
OVC 2
MEAC 1
Big West 1

Last 4 out
Drexel
Missouri St
Bradley
St Peter's

Off the TV - top games
1) Indiana St @ St Peter's (MVC #7 vs. MAAC #4)
2) Wright St @ Missouri St (Horizon #3 vs. MVC #5)
3) Buffalo @ Vermont (MAC #3 vs. AEast #2)
4) Drexel @ Radford (CAA #6 vs. Big South #2) - Drexel really gets the shaft this year, because there's no way ESPN will be willing to give the CAA 6
5) Western Michigan @ Bradley (MAC #4 vs. MVC #6) - This ruins Bradley's SoS, by the way. As a side note, the SoS is already down to 25. Down down down...
