on what basis does illinois deserve an ncaa bid?

If you are in a BCS conference and have a Top 40 RPI, you are almost a lock.

If you are not in a BCS conference, you had best be in the top 20 RPI or you might be left out.

Oh, and I forgot to mention... before some knot-head says it... Illinois deserves a bid based on their 2005 run to the title.

Even as a lifetime Illinois fan, I admit that this team does not deserve a bid at this point in the season. Every time I have sat down to watch them, it has been quite apparent that this is not an NCAA team. They lack a leader, and Saturday's embarassment against Ohio State is unacceptable. This team has lost three straight and does not deserve a bid at this point in the season.

Before you cry, take a look at every non-BCS non-MVC conference. Who deserves a 2nd bid? Outside of the Mountain West, nobody.

The big boys and the MVC :) will dominate the bids in March. Easily.

Hopefully when we get Crouch back, we can position ourselves for one of those bids :D. But the Mountain West? Who else gets a bid besides Air Force? New Mexico is iffy.

A lot is yet to be determined, since they just started conference play. But right now, New Mexico would be out in the mountain West. It looks to me like Air Force and UNLV are the NCAA-worthy teams.

No more than 2. Which leaves 33 at large bids for 7 conferences. Let's even say that Butler and Gonzaga blow it. 31 at large bids for 7 conferences. Each of the other 7 conferences can easily get 4 at large bids, for 5 total. 10-6 or even 9-7 in any of the BCS conferences could make them good to go this year.

I just think it is too early to tell, period. Let's revisit this in about a 3-4 weeks.

I like revisiting it every day.
