Bradley "desperately needs big bodies"

It's nice to have a commitment from John Wilkins, and it's always nice to have depth with big men, but this beat writer for the Wichita State Shockers goes a bit overboard saying--

Bradley picked up a commitment for a big man who might help the Braves this season. After the Orupke saga, I would not get too excited until he gets through the NCAA. However, he could be a big help for Bradley, which desperately needs big bodies.

I don't think I'd say Bradley is that desperate for big bodies. Even before JW's commitment, I felt pretty good about our frontcourt with seniors Sam Singh, David Collins, and Theron Wilson, along with Will Egolf Taylor Brown, and Anthony Thompson. There aren't too many MVC teams that have more depth or size than BU.

By the way, Paul Suellentrop writes a very good blog for his newspaper, and we've gotten a lot of info from his past blogs.

I would also not consider this the same as the Orupke Saga, France and Africa are light years apart academically. France has a VERY modern school system and is a very academically sound country. Africa in some places has organized schools, however in many places attendance isn't even something that is taken...

You are right.
Orukpe was originally a 2007 recruit. He spent all of 2007-2008 in Nigeria, because he couldn't find the right people to bribe to get a passport and visa to get out of Nigeria and come to the US.
Then finally, this summer he must have found the right person and amount to get the wheels moving, and he got his visa. But the NCAA still isn't accepting whatever academic records he was able to get from home, and they probably never will. They have a special warning that they won't readily accept academic records from Nigeria because of rampant corruption there.

Come to think of it, I haven't heard back from that prince from Nigeria that promised give me $100 million gratuity for the loan I sent him! :)

There should be no such issues with Wilkins.

It's funny, last year our bigs coming in to the season were iffy to very iffy. This year coming in, the bigs are solid to good. Next year dare I say.....:D

Put me on record as one who thought it would be a while for this program's bigs to replenish and excel. I thought we needed Sykes a couple years ago, and then last year with the kid that ended up going to UNC Asheville (I think...some Carolina school). I think coach Les and crew are doing a great job and I'm anxious to see how these guys can come together and show their talent to their full potential.
