Bradley mascot

Why not just hire Bradley Cooper to sit on the sideline?

I have a professor who is retiring at the end of the semester and he has been adamant about having a squirrel as our mascot.

It just seems mascot talk brings out the creativity in people.:-D

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind seeing a change in team colors.

I realize it's been red and white forever, but there are about 20,000 other schools with the same color scheme, including our biggest rival. I'd like to see green and white instead, since only a handful of schools seem to use green and none in the MVC do.

But I know that'll never happen.

Personally, I liked the lion mascot idea expressed by someone here a while ago. If we use the gargoyle mascot, could we put a mechanism in the gargoyle mascot's costume in which it could throw up red "water" on the opposing mascot... (similar to the water spout picture here)

I mentioned the lion awhile ago as I had heard it from a few people. I also think the eagle would be great as well. We all know BRAVE cannot mean native american but use Brave as a verb personified (in the case of the lion) or as a symbol with the eagle (home of the brave, patriotic reference). The students and alumni in general at the sporting events certainly seem to place importance in the last line of the anthem so work with it and get a bald eagle costume. Its still the bradley braves but at least there could be a new logo and character to work with.

Is it a sociology professor? I had a professor that was also adamant about having a squirrel. He was literally the worst professor I've ever had and an absolute nutcase. I hope we aren't talking about the same person.

And....

And....

and the reason no other school has one is because its a goofy idea,
please Bradley Braves, at no time does the image of a Gargoyle come to mind when thinking of a Brave. Eagle maybe, Lion not bad, what we really need is what is on my old memorabilia. I still think it could be done as an Honor and not offend anyone, just not sure how, I would rather go with no mascot then the wrong one.

It took a long, long time for a major corporation to think this was a good idea.

It's no goofier than a shocker, billiken, or many other mascots. There is not going to be another Native American logo or mascot, and people need to get over it. That issue is closed regardless of your personal beliefs on the matter.

Peoria should change the name of the city because it's offensive.

It's amazing how some references to native americans are considered offensive while others are not.

Luckily, we are not. He teaches in the political science department. Never had to take a sociology class :D

I think a red lion would be very cool and actually look cool/unique.

A lion? An eagle?

While you can loosely tie those to the word "brave" a gargoyle makes much more sense.

Those gargoyles have watched over the University for decades - warding off evil spirits, looking BA, etc., etc.

I for one think it would be awesome to have a gargoyle watching over our athletic events. Also, just because the mascot is one thing it does not mean that the nickname for the teams would have to change.

The Gargoyle would certainly be unique and have deep and lasting ties to the campus community, young and old.

I envision a light grayish body suit (color of Bradley Hall) with the faint outline of bricks and a huge gargoyle head. Perhaps a red cape. Could be pretty cool.

On a semi-related side note - I have a friend who graduated from BU in the 40s who tells this elaborate story about how the gargoyles on top of Bradley Hall would whistle at the pretty virginal coeds that would pass beneath them and growl at "the uglies". He cracks me up every time he tells it.

AhemSeminoleAhem... :p Some people can buy their way out of anything. I like the idea of a gargoyle. A lion could be good but you could upset anyone that doesn't go to Manuel  hahahaha.

For anyone that thinks this would be a dumb idea, look at how much marketing schools like Oklahoma (Sooner), Texas A&M/Utah State (Both Aggies. Utah State Uses a Bull), Virginia Tech (Hokie...?), Georgetown (Hoya...?) etc. I don't think a GARGOYLE would look bad next to some of these. Look at how successful these school's marketing plans are. I challenge you to find me a sports shop or hat shop that doesn't have an OU hat or t-shirt (OUtside Texas... we need an upside down hook em' horns as a smiley...)

First and foremost...CHANGING THE COLOR SCHEME IS A TERRIBLE IDEA. Thank god it would never happen.

The gargoyle is a cool idea but only if it is done right.
It is kind of hit or miss because it has the opportunity to be cool and unique but could easily be screwed up and look stupid.

At one time wasn't there a wildcat(or some kind of cat) mascot? Whatever happened to it and why didn't it work out?

A lion would be pretty cool I think. I could see a lion picture with the word "Brave".

Besides wizard of oz----->lion---->courage----->brave

it fits

Glad to see someone else agrees with me on this plus a mascot is not really needed, our logo looks good.

I have to disagree on the logo part.... I think that the current logo is one of the more lame logos out there... I understand the reasoning for the logo, but a change is long overdue.
