Bradley men to wear pink uniforms

I am sorry about those loved ones in your family with cancer. It is a terrible disease, and everyone is in favor of more research and progress toward finding cures. I don't think anyone here is opposed to supportive events. But I can understand that there might be fans who don't see the reason to incorporate it so thoroughly into a college basketball game.

No one here is against cancer fundraising. I am a big believer of knowing about the organization you are donating your time and money. I have my own thoughts on Komen, and would never give them a dime. I have given plenty of time and money to the American Cancer Society and St. Jude along with more localized charities and trusts.

The idea of cancer awareness is a joke, because everyone is aware that cancer exists. That is just semantics.

And don't make this a pissing match of who has lost loved ones to cancer. If you asked everyone in Carver Arena to raise their hand if they had lost someone close to them from cancer, everyone would have their hands raised.

I totally agree this crosses the line objecting to anything about cancer awareness.

Finally, I'm glad that Bradley is one of the first men's college basketball teams to do this. The NFL and MLB area already on board with their players wearing pink accessories. Bradley and Peoria have strong ties to breast cancer, so it makes sense to support this cause. JG battled breast cancer hardly missing any work in the process. Susan Komen was from Peoria. It makes sense and its the right thing to do.

Please. What do you have against the people suffering from autism, Alzheimer's, school violence, ALS, diabetes, suicide, racism, MS, and all of the other conditions and events that have caused loss and suffering? The debate tactic of trying to make anyone who disagrees with you seem heartless is one of the things that has gotten this country into the mess we have today. Unless you are actively advocating that Bradley wear a different color uniform every game to support a different cause than your hypocrisy and sanctimony are appalling. We have all lost friends and family from many causes. Many of us give time and money to support charities. We just don't all think the color of a sports uniform makes a difference.

For the record, I don't think that problem exists with these college cancer events. I know there are college teams that auction off the one-time-use pink uniforms, and all the proceeds from those sales go directly to the charities.

You hate this idea? I don't think you can do enough to raise money for cancer. There are so many kinds that attack people of all ages and races. The more money they get, the better. The more attention it gets, the better.

It's getting to be so frequent with breast cancer, seems like just another ploy to get more butts into BU's MBB Game seats...

I will say it again, this is a disgusting thread. If you don't want the men to wear pink, that's fine. But don't make claims that it's a ploy to get people to the game. Don't lie about who cancer effects, and don't say it's terrible all around to bring awareness and money to cancer research.

I've given to St. Jude and fully support cancer awareness and research, but I do think all-pink uniforms are a bit much. Studies show the color pink can make you soft, and this is a big conference game. I've heard Iowa football paints its visitor's locker room pink.

???Pink is thought to have a calming effect. One shade known as "drunk-tank pink" is sometimes used in prisons to calm inmates. Sports teams sometimes paint the opposing teams locker room pink to keep the players passive and less energetic.

Pink trim or shoelaces I'm fine with, but it seems there's a reason why other teams don't do this. It probably amounts to nothing, but I wouldn't want to risk it. There are other effective ways to promote awareness.

FWIW, Creighton is wearing the pink jerseys again against Bradley tomorrow. If I'm not mistaken, in the game last year, Bradley did something like pink shoelaces as a way to participate as well. I also think Ford and the assistants wore pink ties.

Yes, pink has been tied to breast cancer, but Creighton says the event is to raise money for all forms of cancer research. Obviously, Teresa McDermott (Greg's wife and Doug's mom) is pretty involved in the whole cause since she is a breast cancer survivor, but last year Mac specifically called for men to get prostate screenings too.

In addition to auctioning off the shirts, there are multiple booths set up at the game for people to donate money to cancer research as well. I'd say this event is to raise money for cancer research, not to just raise awareness.

I think its a great cause and I'm glad to hear that Bradley is doing something similar. I admit that I was a bit hesitant to how it would all look going into last year's event, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how it all turned out. I suspect that you guys that are a bit hesitant will feel the same way after the game that you do it as well.

There are more common (prostate) and deadlier (lung, colon, pancreatic) forms of cancer than breast cancer. I guess I don't understand why the focus is put on "pink nights".
