Bradley Picked Last in Preseason Poll

No problem with this pick.

Let TB & DSE prove 'em wrong.

This is a safe pick - BU at 10, SIU at 9
So many uncertainties, especially among outsiders, for this BU team.
Straying from this would probably create waves across the Valley.

I think they put Murry on 1st team since they picked WSU #2. Their team reminds me of the UNI team from a couple years ago with good production from everyone, different leading scorers practically every night, no stars.

I looked back on a few of the past MVC Media Day's and how the players and teams were picked...

There's not a whole lot of accuracy -- in fact surprisingly often there's a laughable component...like last year TWO people gave Bradley FIRST PLACE VOTES!!!!
..and we know they picked Drake 9th the year Drake won 30 games, and one year when Indiana State finished dead last - they got a first place vote...
Kenny Lawson - who wasn't even a starter most of the time and who played no more than Darryl Ashford - was the overwhelming preseason POY last year.

What's the old Bradley song...

"It's a long way up when you're coming from nowhere...."

I loved that one.

BU knew it was going to have an uphill climb this season. You were poor last season; you had players leave, and now you have a ton of new bodies that have to play big minutes.

To me, this season is about two things:

1. Most importantly, setting a foundation, style, and expectation for the future of your program. This group has to be molded, by Coach Ford, into what he wants to see in the future. How practices are run, what kind of effort Coach expects, how does the team prepare for games, what kind of in-game coaching and adjustments are made, etc.

2. Getting better as the season goes on. I don't know anyone who expects a ton of wins. I know a ton of people who want to see growth and development as the year progresses. Once the team and players understand the system and expectations, they need to show growth and get more competitive.

At the end of this year, I would expect everyone (coaches, players, fans) to know what kind of program is being built moving forward. We will know the type of players we are going after, the style of offense and defense we might play, and how Coach teaches and motivates.

We will take our lumps, but I think we will show the important long-range developments that will make BU consistent winners in the future.

I am not expecting an 2010-2011 Indiana State type season...but all you have to do is look at what they accomplished last year to realize that anything can happen.

I believe...first year coach, significant injury, low expectations.??

Interesting that they don't mention KSU having a coaching change anywhere in that article.

Well it is a FOX NEWS article so if it is halfway accurate and informative then count it as a victory :)

not a chance bradley finishes below isu. they are an embarrasment to the league. bad coaches, bad players, bad facilities, bad arena and bad fans. coach stankovich was on 96.5 with donny and they thought it was just hilarious, yuckin' it up because they were picked ahead of bradley.,come back and talk to me when you have a s.o.s. rpi higher than 350. horrible program and wish they would just go to D-III. That is their level of competition anyway! I'm trying to think of a way to put my money where my mouth is. leaning toward running from carver to redbird arena with an isu jersey on if bradley finishes lower than the redbirds.....

last ????

last ????

I really do not think we will finish in the top 3, but last !!!!
I dont think so, I was a big Jl fan, now i am a geno fan, when he leaves I will support the next coach. But really, Geno is a good proven coach and I think he can coach us out of the last place position no problem.

Great assessment BradleyJD! I think that's the least all Bradley fans should expect this year. But I cannot agree at all with Bradley being picked last this year. I figure we should be able to finish ahead of SIU and ISU red, and probably Drake as well since they have some injury issues. If we beat these three at home like we should, win one or two against them on the road, and win at least two more games at home and one on the road against others, this would give us 7 or 8 wins which should be enough for at the minimum a 7th place finish. Of course I'm hoping for 6th in order to avoid Thursday night in St. Louis. I'm not expecting a top 3 or 4 finish, but I still think we can have a very respectable season this year if we learn how to finish games and become accustomed to the new offensive system Geno is installing here.

Now thats funny. I don't care what you say thats funny.

'Experts' also picked the SF 49ers to be last in the NFL West Division this season.

SF is 7-1 through today, and the pre season poll by 'experts' now seems pretty ridiculous.

Who would have thought a change in head coach could have such a dramatic affect on a previously underachieving team (particularly with little preseason time to prepare)?

Just play them one at a time BU, and improve from game to game!
