Bradley shooting stats

Bradley still ranks #1 in the NCAA 3-point shooting stats at 42.89%
#2 is Villanova at 41.49%
ISU is 7th at 40.77%
but Belmont (40th at 37,68%), UNI (48th at 37.28 ) and Murray State (63rd at 36.51%) have dropped off

as a comparison-
Drake is 9th in the MVC in 3-point shooting at 34.1%
and the rest of Drake's offensive stats are surprisingly modest....
They rank 9th in the MVC in scoring at 72,4 points per game
8th in FT at 70.5%
4th in FG shooting at 49.1%
and they rank last (12th) in the MVC in overall rebounding at 31.7 rpg

And this will surprise many, but their best player and best scorer, Bennett Stirtz, hits just 29.5% of his 3-pt shots
He take a big pct of their shots overall and gets 2/3 of his shots driving to the lane and makes a very high pct of them.

That's amazing given Almar's recent shooting slump. Also amazing is we've continued to win despite his slump, thanks to our depth. When Almar starts connecting again -- and he will, hopefully starting against Drake -- our margin of victory should increase.

I also see we're up to No. 2 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25. https://collegeinsider.com/mens-mid-major-top-25# We may be parked there awhile, given Gonzaga is No. 1. Meanwhile, Drake has fallen out of the "also receiving votes" category of the AP Top 25. How many more wins do you think the Braves need to string before we might get a few votes there, despite our NET ranking?

Interesting to see Illinois State at no. 8 on that list. I think we know what kind of game we're going to see on Saturday!

In addition to Bradley at # 1 (41.3%) and ISU at # 9 now (39.8%), Belmont, the 3rd best 3-point shooting team in the MVC, is # 43 (37.4%) on the list of best 3-point shooting teams in Division I - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...ffensive/sort/threePointFieldGoalPct/dir/desc

And, in overall FG%, UNI was leading the country for several weeks, but has now dropped to # 6 - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/stats/team/_/table/offensive/sort/fieldGoalPct/dir/desc

Note that Bradley (49.1% overall) is # 20.

As always, thanks for being a fount of knowledge, my friend! This is one of the many reasons this forum is tops in the country.

in a stat called Effective FG% (scoring efficiency given that making a 3-pointer results in more points),
Bradley had been leading the nation until the past few games, but Bradley is now 7th, with ISU 8th,
UNI 18th, InSU 36th, Belmont 39th & Drake 47th.

Update on shooting statistics...

Bradley's 3-point percentage has been below average for 8 of the last 9 games - https://bradleybraves.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats#game

...And despite their worst 3-point shooting game of the season yesterday against Illinois State (4-18, 22.2%), Bradley continues to lead the country in team 3-point shooting percentage.
For the season, Bradley is 213-525 for 40.6%, # 1 in the country - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...ffensive/sort/threePointFieldGoalPct/dir/desc
Illinois State is 11th and Belmont is 45th.

Bradley is 27th in overall Field Goal Percentage with 48.7% - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/stats/team/_/table/offensive/sort/fieldGoalPct/dir/desc
Northern Iowa is 5th, Drake is 26th, and Illinois State 45th.

And Free Throw Percentage is a stat in which Bradley has not been elite for many years. Note that just 3 seasons ago, Bradley was the worst Free Throw shooting team in the MVC - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...18/table/offensive/sort/freeThrowPct/dir/desc
Bradley's FT% of 68.9% in 2021-22 ranked 275th in the country.

But this season, Bradley's FT Percentage of 78.9% is the best in the MVC - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...18/table/offensive/sort/freeThrowPct/dir/desc
And Bradley ranks as the 11th best FT% in the country (78.9%) - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/stats/team/_/table/offensive/sort/freeThrowPct/dir/desc
Valparaiso is 21st, and Illinois State is 39th.

One other stat where Bradley is tied for the lead in the country is the number of wins.
Bradley is now in a 8-way tie with 18 wins - https://kenpom.com/index.php?s=Wins

The bottom line is that good shooting wins games.

With Bradley's solid shooting last night, they are now tied with Memphis with a 40.3% clip from behind the arc and avg. nearly 2 more made 3's per game than the Tigers. BU also boasts the 20th best FT % in the country at 77.7, which I can't recall being such a good FT shooting team since I've been a fan.

Does anyone know typically what the leading 3-pt. % team in the country ends up with by season's end? 40% sounds rather low to me, but we're never near the top so I haven't paid att'n in past seasons (in 2007 we were great for at least the first half of the season in that 4-guard offense with Tuai, Ruff, Franklin, Adams, and a young gun named Drew Warren ;) )

The stats after last night's game have been updated and actually show Bradley back at the # 1 spot in 3-point percentage at 40.7%. Memphis is # 2 at 40.3% - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...ffensive/sort/threePointFieldGoalPct/dir/desc

That ESPN stats page can be reset for any season back to 2002-03 by clicking on the date button at the top (it can also be set for individual conferences). Last year, Kentucky lead the country with 40.9%. In 2022-23, Colgate lead the country with 40.3%. South Dakota State had a great shooting team in 2021-22 with 44.5% (they beat Bradley 81-65). Most seasons it has been around 40-43%.

Thanks in large part to Duke Deen
Bradley is back on top as the Nation’s best 3-point shooting team

NCAA Stats from today:
(btw- Illinois State is at 10th, Belmont at 13th and UNI at 28th, Drake at 48th)

update-
Bradley has widened their lead at #1 in 3-point shooting-
Bradley at 41.14% is almost a full percentage point ahead of #2 Villanova 40.32%
Only two other teams, Houston & N. Dakota State are above 40% and five MVC teams are in the Top 50, 3 in the Top 13.
Bradley is also in the Top 10 of Effective FG% and among the nation's leaders (top 30-40 or so) in FG%, FT%, FG% Defense, 3-ptFG% Defense, Scoring offense, Three Pointers per game, and winning percentage.

I like the amt we take per game, and we get good looks, except for Duke who creates his own shot.
The 41% clip is largely due to good shot selection and good balance of 2s and 3s.

Yes, Duke has a shooter's mentality, and knows when he's got the hot hand. When he gets hot, you can tell he wants the next shot. He's nailed a few crazy-long threes in recent games. There is not another player in the league I would rather watch play this year.

With Saturday’s 13-29 shooting performance from the arc, Bradley’s season 3-pt pct rises to 39.93%, back into 1st place in DI.
Villanova, currently at 39.80%, and Houston, currently at 39.61% can still take over the lead if we have a bad game- but we saw Saturday how valuable good 3-point shooting is!
