Bradley to take trip to Brazil in August

There will be a few college teams making foreign trips this summer. Most teams in past years have travelled to countries like Canada, Bahamas, Australia, and European tours. A couple teams have gone to Mexico.

Questions-
Has any Division I college team ever taken a summer or preseason trip to South America?

Teams are entitled to make such trips once every 4 years. Bradley's last foreign trip was in October, 2004, to Canada, where they went 5-0 against Canadian college teams. Such trips are incredibly expensive, especially the ones to Australia, Europe, or South America, which is why only a few do it.

Where would members here like to see Bradley take their next summer tour?
Thanks to the generosity of Bradley fans and supporters, I have heard that it will happen this year! Parab?©ns! Bravos.

Bradley to take trip to Brazil in August

We had heard a rumor of this a week or two ago, but now it seems confirmed by a couple people who have reported it to us, and the fact that it is now noted on the website of the sports tours company. Bradley will be making a trip to Brazil in August and will play several games against ncollege and amatuer competetion.
The freshmen will not be making the trip, as the NCAA does not allow players who have not yet enrolled full time (excluding summer sessions).

I have looked and cannot find that any other men's college basketball team has ever gone to Brazil for one of these off-season exempt-tours.
It should be fun to see how they do, and I think the experience will help this team.

I don't know the dates, yet, but it will be for about 10 days and they will return in time to begin classes for the fall semester (classes start Wednesday, Aug. 26).

I think I recall a story possibly Len Bertolini told me about that summer trip when they got back.....a small car was blocking their team bus or something similar and several of the BU guys picked it up and moved it. COULD be an urban ledgend but I think I recall this story.....

I'm not excited about it, I wish they were staying home - JMHO.

Curious to know why you feel that way. I think it is great! There's nothing like traveling and checking out another culture. I only wish I was going! Too bad it will be winter time down there and they will not be able to check out the world famous Brazilian beaches and atmosphere.

I knew a girl who used to frequent those Brazilian world famous beaches.....
we'll just leave it at that.......8)

I've been to Brazil for work. I did not like the big city of Sao Paulo. Very congested and polluted. Plus, the poverty in certain areas is disheartening. I thought the country-side outside the city though was beautiful.

Rio is a very beautiful place. Again, I didn't like the city parts of it for the same reasons as Sao Paulo, but the natural beauty of the beaches and mountains were amazing.

schools use these tours a little as a recruiting tool....telling recruits,
"we take areally nice foreign tour every four years or so....so
if you come to BU and stay four years, you're going to get to go on one..."

Otherwise....the travel and game preparation can take away a little from preseason conditioning,
but the team does get those 10 extra days of practice that the NCAA allows.

If you recall what happened last year to Southern Illinois....they went to Canada and played four games in a preseason tour...
but one of their projected starters (Josh Bone) was ticked about his playing time, and didn't think just because it was an exhibition,
that the brand new, incoming freshmen should be starting and playing ahead of him, so he was ticked off and quit the team as soon as they got back.
It created turmoil and chemistry issues that were discussed on their message boards, and then the team, which was picked to be one
of the top 2 or 3 teams in the Valley, promptly went out to start the 2008-2009 season by losing NINE of their first 13 DI games!
They never quite recovered and ended up having a pretty bad year by SIU standards (13-18)...and just maybe it might have been different
without the preseason tour??

Did anyone get Creaned over that incident?

True story Dogs... I have seen the pictures- was student manager back then.. I didn't get to go to Italy- but instead got to go to the NCAA games..

Dogs I do remember a story about a team moving a car to allow room for a getaway but I'm just not picking it up...

I went to Brazil ( Sao Paulo and Rio ) a long time ago, the women were very good looking, anytime you get to play competition against different opponents in the summer it is a good thing, would be nice to be able to play our freshman but it should give us a preview on how well Warren and Egolf have progressed with their injuries. 10 extra days of practice is also a good thing.

I remember hearing about the players moving the car and knew you would know for sure. That was a great year for BU basketball. We took some good trips that season. I was an honorary coach for the Northwestern game that season. Another one of my great memories of Bradley basketball.
