Bradley to take trip to Brazil in August

Curious to know why you feel that way. I think it is great! There's nothing like traveling and checking out another culture. I only wish I was going! Too bad it will be winter time down there and they will not be able to check out the world famous Brazilian beaches and atmosphere.

Sorry its taken awhile to get back to you.

I just think it's a waste of money. I contribute a little bit to Bradley most years and I would like to see the money used on things other than a trip to Brazil. What's the point. We can have better practices playing against ourselfs at home. I'm not against the trips to SP Island or Vegas to play NCAA competition but Brazil - no way. Stay home.

JMO.

There is three things to take into consideration.

First is that the men's basketball program runs a surplus and any money you contribute to BU, unless you specify it to help build out certain infrastructure, goes to the school not the basketball program. I'm sure your contribution goes directly to the endowment which helps the school in multiple ways while the basketball programs revenue fuels the sports department. Which leads to the second thought.

Second is that these players are only* receiving a free ride to the school (which translates to $30K a year) and if school chooses to also extend a little cultural learning on top of that and use the experience for PR, goodwill and for future recruiting, I say money well spent. There is a direct correlation between the men's basketball success to the amount of money the school collects for fund raising. Investing in the team IMHO is extremely wise.

Third is that these trips allow the coaching staff extra days of coaching the guys when otherwise they cannot!

*The amount of money these kids actually contribute to the school is a lot more IMO. (This can be a whole different thread I bet!)

I think the best aspect of this trip is that the team will be exposed to the game from an international perspective. Europe and the rest of the world play the game a little different than we do here in the States. There's a bit more emphasis on ball movement, passing and perimeter shooting as compared with the physical American game. Should be good for our kids to experience a little different angle on the Xs and Os...

He was- it was funny to see all those guys around the car- it looked like a toy... lol

Thanks for the confirmation.....I worked with Lenny one summer and I think thats where the story came from. If not I MIGHT have just have read it in the paper. Either way I just recall it was a funny story.

Brazil Trip

Brazil Trip

A trip to Brazil for the team could be a great help for the upcoming season.
Versace often said that the Italy trip for the 32 - 3 team was the reason that team bonded so well and ended up playing together so well during the following season. In effect, the guys grew to liking each other and their play showed it.
Let's hope the Brazil trip has the same affect.

We have the potential of having one of the best teams we've had in a long time and some of you want to put them on a plane and fly them down to South America. I still say - stay home - practice at home.

They cannot practice with the coach until way into October! Do you think the scrimmages without the coach would be better then with JL and also heading to another country to practice and play different teams?

I agree SFP. I would take game experience any day over practice...
Going to a foreign country is an added plus at several levels for the team.

the CDC routinely recommends getting the vaccine for yellow fever, which will protect travelers in that area of the world.
They may also have to take malarial prophylaxis and update other vaccinations.

I just really hope that this tour allows for some decent competition. I really am not concerned that the team is taking a trip, I am concerned that when we do play we are not playing against High Schoolers or men over 40.

I think it is a little odd that Brazil is the choice of this tour. Mostly because of the length of any flight and the issues with visa's and the need for Yellow Fever shots.

But overall it will be an amazing learning experience and will hopefully bring this team together. Though the trip to Canada was in some circles blamed for the end of season collapse.

I remember when I was in the Army, I had like 5 shots in one day during basic training! I hope our boys will be taking some of them before traveling to South America.

I'm still dumb founded by the resistance for these guys to travel a bit. There is more to life then basketball and if these guys have the chance to travel under watchful eyes and play a little ball why is there such an Igor like premonition? I wish I had nothing but time and money to travel where my heart desired and Brazil would be one of those places! This will be a great learning experience and hopefully it will be well worth the effort. I thought my mother was cautious.:?
