and also carried on Big Ten Network - at 7pm
Saint Louis beats Nebraska 79-74 (Exhibition)
Saint Louis looks very much like they did last year, but Avila did not play - awaiting ruling on eligibility. His lawyers today appealed
to have the case returned to the state courts- since they see many recent cases in the federal courts have gone the NCAA's way.
The Billikens are tall, their guards are athletic & they shoot the 3-pointer well. Most of their minutes are played by their big wing guys.
But we are bigger in the guards this year so I think we will match up better than we did last year.
As for what their weaknesses may be, it was just one game, but they did have a lot of sloppy turnovers by starting guards, and without Avila,
they don't appear to have a lot of inside scoring. Even their big guy at 6-11 (Kerr) never even took a shot in the paint.
They also fouled a lot (27 total fouls sending Nebraska to the FT line 28 times.)
Their scoring leaders in this game were McCottry (11 pts), Thames (11 pts), Green (9 pts on 3-5 3-pointers), and Laczkowski 8 pts),
Jones & Hutson - both had 7 pts.
ALL of those guys are BIG guards (6-5 to 6-8) except Green (6-0 guard) who is their designated 3-pt guy.
The only big guy who did anything at all was 6-11 Jax Kerr (6 pt & 9 reb), but all six of his shots were 3 pt attempts and he made two.
So, I am very optimistic we can battle them both on the perimeter and down low. Go Braves - we play them two weeks from tonight.
