This team showed me something tonight....

Only 8 turnovers after the sloppy first 5 minutes. A few bad possessions and forced shots by the two Sams, but overall, they kept their composure well and didn't make too many careless mistakes. IF(and it's a big IF until proven otherwise) they can play with the same intensity regardless of opponent, night in and night out, this can be a top 3 squad in the valley. This also is accepting that TB is as advertised(the next theron) because without better rebounding , we are dead. With all that said, I now project us at 9-3 Non-con, 11-7 valley, 20-10 going into st .louis. No hopes of at large with 10 losses and the BCS bias stronger than ever, but if we can get the 2 or 3 seed, I like our shot. Long way to go, but a really encouraging start tonight, Brown's absence notwithstanding. Losses to Illinois, Iowa st or NIU, and wins in every other non con. Wofford is still a threat, but again, play with the intensity we did tonight, and we win easily.

Thank you! I'm not sure why people somehow think the school is obligated to announce to the public ahead of time that a player will not be playing in a certain game. I'm actually surprised they announced that he's suspended for Sunday's game too, since I don't feel they owe us any of that information in advance.

nope...it was part of the plan, so as not to let the opponent know in advance and allow them preparation..
TB's absence was probably the difference, as a few extra rebounds would have neutralized some of their offensive rebounds and putbacks...I think we have a chance to win with TB.
But it was the right decision because JL is the coach.
 
I am happy to be wrong about the reason for his suspension but on the other hand I think 2 games for what he did is a little harsh, I got a feeling that this came from the PRES. of the University and once again our athletes seem to be penalized more for their actions. I do believe in penalties but it just seems to me that the punishment does not fit the crime.

I agree here. Don't know if it was the pres or the coach... But the punishment seems very harsh for the crime.

Agree... I can see one game and give him extra things to do after practice etc, but two games is a bit harsh!
 
This decision lacked imagination, it had bad timing, wasn't well thought out, and hurt the chances for the team to win. The fight happened in September. There could have be dozens of other punishments given to Brown between that time and last night's game. With some imagination Coach could have had him doing constructive "time" by doing community service work or working with HS kids. Extra push-ups, sprints, late-night workouts, extra hours of running after practice. Here's one... Making him go to EVERY athletic event by all the other BU teams and supporting teams that don't play in front of a crowd. There were endless possibilities of punishments that would have been very uncomfortable for TB without hurting the team & fans. No, just the 'ole game suspension bit. Not something that may be a positive for TB and the team and/or the community. No thought. No imagination. That's what I have come to expect from our coach and that's what I got.

That was a winnable game last night and one that would have meant something down the road. I'm sure Coach Les got a delight out of the game by staying close by playing 4 guards the whole game. That's what he has shown to love--guards and trying to prove he can win with guards. And does it really matter in his job security since he is the "golden boy" of BU basketball who has the job forever...

Many more positive things could have come out of more creative punishments. Even something as easy as suspending him for a couple cupcake games that we could win with 4 guards? He still would have to sit and watch just like last night.

One question GTD, how do you know that the decision to sit TB was JL's?
If I were a gambling person, I would wager that the decision came from someone higher up at BU:!:

but proper justice penalizes the guilty and does NOT penalize the innocent...
TB should have been penalized for the closed scrimmage and the Lewis game, then he'd have still had MORE than any DUI or bar brawl/campus brawl that's been in the news in the past 2 years!

george, I have had my own kids break rules while they are playing for some youth sports team that I am coaching.
I know there needs to be discipline, but I know also that if I discipline my kid by holding him out of a summer tournament game it then hurts everyone else on the team...so I have to use a little thought and do what's right and not what is knee-jerk.
If holding the kid out hurts the team and the entire institution, then the kid ends up feeling a little vindicated and maybe NOT so totally humbled.
Just my thoughts.........but I yield to the decision of the coach and Prez.

It's not like TB is a projected All-American. I agree in some sort of punishment for his ill-advised actions, but to hype this gamne up so much and then pull off the big surprise at game time was not, IMO, the right thing to do. What games he was going to have sit out should have been known before hand.

I do the same with my kid on his teams and he is an important part of the all the teams he plays on. There are many other punishments that are more effective without hurting others.
