FWIW, I think that your community service idea is very appropriate for TB's situation.
 
Good thoughts by all......but don't you think by keeping him out of the game you reinforce that its a TEAM. Everything you do as an individual effects the TEAM.

You don't play D you hurt everyone else....you hog the ball you hurt your teammates...you goof up outside of the University OR in the clasroom and you hurt your team.

Now you have teammates looking out for each other and monitoring what goes on 24/7......

Brown should have been punished,but---Not in a way that hurt the team as this clearly did. Regardless of who determined the punishment, it was wrong and way overdone,ie, don't punish me for someone elses infraction! If I work my butt off to get ready for this game and the season, I would be super PO'D if this happened to me. If I were a recruit, I might start having some doubts. This was not a DUI, a theft, or a major infraction. As for the Pres., it is not her place or job to determine the punishment or become involved other than to be sure the coach handles the situation properly. How it is handled should be the coaches decision. I hope the Pres. was not micromanaging again and I hope JL is allowed to run the BB program as he sees fit, even if he is sometimes wrong as he clearly was in this instance IMO.
 
Its possible that after the TW issue the prez and JL came to the agreement that any arrest results in sitting out (at least) the very next regular season or post season game as a team rule. I'm not certain this was the case, but it is possible that JL had to enforce an existing agreement, not just some new, arbitrary rule.
 
I cant think of any coach who is willing going to lose a starting player for 2 regular season games for an infraction that occured in September. Especially when there were exhibitions and or extra conditioning that the player could have missed or done.

This type of decision, and I am not guaranting, but Id come close to booking it, came from the administration and I am willing to also say the decision did not occur until very recently.

The punishment does not fit the crime. Any other school Brown misses the Lewis game and does all kinds of extra running. But at BU since we have to be more PC then anyone the guy loses 2 games.
 
If it came from the "Acting AD" then that person is clearly not qualified for the position and does not have my support (as if my support means anything--Ha Ha).
 
Wow, this, the same board that complains about other schools lack of discipline, complains that we're harsher on our students than other schools? Sounds like some want to have their cake and eat it too. Applaud our school's integrity rather than b*tch about how it hurt the team. YES, we could stoop to the level of ILSU, or similar programsm but is that what we want to be? It's easy to be high and mighty when your players don't do anything wrong, but when they do, you have to be prepared for the consequences. If you want BU to be a cut above, you can't have it that way only when it's convenient. I for one am more than OK that the university decided to carry through with a harsh punishment.

Did it hurt the team? Yep and that's the point. The argument about how the punishment shouldn't hurt the innocent doesn't hold. Anyone who's been on a team knows that you win as a team, you lose as a team, you succeed as a team, you fail as a team. We will be fine, I really really really wanted to win last night, but not at the expense of the principles and atmosphere that make BU one of the most tight-knit and unique universities in the country.

I have never complained about another school's lack of discipline or really anything else about how other schools handle their issues on this board or anywhere else, period. Issues at other schools are not for me to judge, but issues and decisions such as this one at this school are. So, your post is irrevelent to what I posted earlier. Sorry. I do complain about how other schools shoot three over our heads.... Does that count?
 
Amckillip, i agree with you 100%. I hold BU athletes to a higher standard than other students, and other schools' athletes. Sure it sucks that we didn't have TB yesterday, and tomorrow too. Bad. But he screwed up. How can we nitpick other schools and their lack of discipline or poor player behavior and then turn around and want ours to get the same slap on the wrist that other schools give their players?? That's hypocrisy.

I am sure TB learned from his mistake, and I'd also bet that coach Les set an example for the freshmen. Nobody is above the law. Let's face it, TB doesn't get arrested and give the team and university a black eye in the public, and this suspension never happens.

Accountability. Im proud of coach Les and Bradley for showing it.


and GTD, your comment about the 3's over our heads made me laugh. And yeah, i do agree with you on that.

I guess I look at this another way. He broke a team rule, doesn't matter when it happened. I have no problem with the punishment. If he was given an easier punishment and allowed to play, I really doubt any lesson would have been learned.

Maybe, maybe if he plays we could have won this game, MAYBE. However, some guys probably got a few more minutes, or the chance to play, that they might not have. We played well, much can be learned from this.
 
You make mistakes in life and there's usually a price to be paid. Plain and simple.

And I think its a good sign this "hurt" so many BU fans....makes me think it hurt TB even more.

I'd rather focus on the fact BU could have won this game without TB BU was tied/ahead of BYU in the second half!

BU needed a little more FH composure, better FT shooting in the LH, better shot selection, and getting the ball in the hole.

BU needs to find a way to win without all available players on the court, or not all playing well on a given night. Someone has to step up and fill in.

Remember the motto for this year, 'just win', not, 'just get close when under adversity.."

I know we led early 2-0 but did we ever take the lead again? I thought the POD tied it but the free throw, to pust us ahead, was missed. Can't recall.

My mistake! :oops:

I was reading the in game blog by KW and he stated BU tied the game at 39, then BYU quickly took the lead. Without my reading glasses on, "BYU" looked like "BU". :badgrin: Must have been Kool Aid inspired...

KW did go on to say BU missed a chance to tie the game again at 41 when WE missed an open back door layup...and then couldn't get any closer.

The majority of posters on this board don't worry about what happens at other schools, so we don't make a big issue about their problems. We are just concerned about Bradley. Everyone knew about the trouble TB got into last September. It was announced that he would be punished, but for some reason, not when he would be punished. IMO, to wait until the night of the game with one of the toughest opening night opponents in Bradley history to annouce his punishment was wrong.
