Bruce Weber Refuses to Name Starters

Big difference in not naming your starters as opposed to not telling anyone that a player is suspended or not available. Last time I checked you can sub whenever you want, so I'm not sure what difference a starting line-up makes anyway.

Because we never change ours unless a guy is suspended, whats it matter anyways....

At least Weber tweaks his lineup, not only before the game, but at the half as well...

Bradley is the only team I watch that never alters who starts the 2nd half and maybe, just maybe that is something they should think about, considering how poorly we play in 2nd halves of games.

In the 7+ years Les has been here, I can only recall him doing it if there is an injury.

Not to take too much away from him, Molinari didn't do it either.

I do not see any difference, and I am sure the media people who follow the Illini don't either. They want to know this kind of information, and so do their readers. I suspect this makes the writers that follow the Illini mad, and I can't blame them. However, it's more of a courtesy that teams and coaches release this kind of information early. They are under no obligation to do it.

Exactly. Just as I said with the JL's "coach's decision" in not playing TB, coaches don't have to say a word to the media, as long as their employer is OK with that too. Coaches most certainly don't have to make players available to talk with the media.

But......what about the general public that deserves to know who's starting and/or going to play in each game?

Plenty of times, I have seen Coach K, Boeheim, Izzo, Weber, Painter (to name a few) change their lineup before the 2nd half.

Sure....it would be a lot easier to toy with the lineup more if we had a bench full of top recruits.

Besides, I didn't think we were supposed to care about other teams. Unless, of course, it fuels some kind of fire against Bradley. In that case, I guess it's perfectly ok to bring up what other teams do or don't do.

And I don't disagree with that, BUT there have been games where guys on our bench, DSE, McCain, Milos, all played much better than the starters at the beginning of the game, and I feel like that deserves a rub.

wow - read this...
ESPN is talking about Chris Lowery and using terms like "embarrassment" and is saying he's "dangerously" close to being canned!!!
http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog/_/post/4806886/name/silverman

"I have always liked SIU coach Chris Lowery, but he is dangerously following
the Lovie Smith path. He was at the Sweet 16 a few years back but has
really underachieved since getting his big contract. After six straight seasons
of making the NCAA tourney under Bruce Weber, Matt Painter, and Lowery,
the Salukis will probably make it three straight years of not making it to the
dance. If Butler could stay on top through a few coaching changes, why
couldn't SIU? Wednesday's loss to the University of Northern Iowa on ESPNU was an embarrassment."

fans are criticizing SIU's Chris Lowery and want to know why Kevin Dillard didn't start.

they are booing and Chris Lowery is firing back and criticizing the fans...
several long threads suggest it's all out warfare!!
Some are calling for a boycott of the Salukis!!
Geez....they must have been reading some of the whines on BF!

I'm sure if you look hard enough, you'll find Illini fans complaining about Bruce not giving up the starters.

It just shows that the "whines on BF" (btw, I thought name calling wasn't allowed here?) aren't the only ones suggesting a coach should be more transparent.

I don't agree with everything tornado has to say, but sometimes the accusations against him are just astounding. He says something like "they must have been reading some of the whines on BF" and then somehow gets accused of name-calling.

I have thought about this also and it did happen when MO was the coach, whatever happened to starting the 2nd half with the players that contributed the most in the 1st half, might be more of an incentive to play better plus it makes it harder for the opposing coaches to prepare for the start of the 2nd half not knowing who BU will put out on the floor.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm saying most teams go with their same Starting 5 for the second 1/2.

Of the 300+ Div1 teams playing about 30 games a season.... so of the 9000+ games... I'd be willing to say that more than 1/2 the time, the same starting 5 begin the 2nd 1/2. ;) :D
