BU 60 SIU 71 Postgame

Any reason why ESPN SportsCenter failed to show highlights of the game tonight? They cared more about showing the best classic highlights ever for about 10 minutes of the show but couldn't show a minute of highlights from a game on one of there main channels. Maybe they were afraid they would get Peoria's location wrong again LOL.

Not sure what the username is of the poster that was escorted from the game but it was that one guy that always wears the hawaiian shirt in the front row of the student section. The refs or someone probably had enough of him lol. Game was well in hand so he didn't miss much other than Ruff and gang addressing the crowd afterwards.

I didn't see anything either but there some people hollering at Falker from our section that got Falker's attention when he was scorer's table.
Was the guy escort from behind SIU bench..maybe too close shouting whatever?

SIU's defense was REALLY solid. Not to mention we didn't have anybody who could do a darn thing about Falker. And when he went out they had another big man who could walk up and down the court on Salley and Singh. Mullins is an extremely talented PG. One of the better ones in the Valley (not as good as Ruff or Sammy though ;))

TCS really did not impress me at all. With Ruff out he needed to step up big time and he did the opposite. He really did not play well and took a lot of bad shots. 1-6, and his one was 1 of his 3 3's that he took. he was in for 26 minutes and really didn't produce to well. Sammy Man did real well all things considered, while his points don't show it, he played well. This just speaks to the SIU defense and how solid it is. They are a very good defensive team and you GOTTA give 'em props for that. Whether they should have gotten all the calls they did or not gotten called on as little as they did is a different story for a different thread!

Things that were needed that weren't there:
1) ASSISTS!!! 9 total!?!?! leading the way was MATT SALLEY!?!?! come on! this is definately the Ruffin factor we were missing, but SOMEONE needed to step up here. It seemed like TCS, SM, and JC were all trying to step up by putting up points...not assists.

2) FREE THROWS!!! we missed 8...we lossed by 11. Simple. Again the Ruffin/Warren factor. having those two woulda helped. But Theron missed 5!!! that's rough...really rough

3) GLUE!!! the team seemed like it was missing the glue between all of them. Everyone was doing their own thing and not cohesive. THis is definately the Ruffin factor that was missing. JC did the best but its hard to run an offense from a shooting guard spot. a PG needs to step up and SM did the best he could, but Mullins and the SIU guards are a really experienced set of guys.

4) MORE MONEY TO PAY OFF THE REFFS!!! obviously the SIU coaching staff's pockets are much deeper than BU's

and that, ladies and gentlemen, is what really grinds my gears

One last disappointment and that was David Collins not throwing the ball down when he got in late in the game. He needs to make a statement to the coach; or not.

He's played exactly 30 minutes out of a possible 680 in conference games. I'd say it's just a little late to "make a statement to the coach".

not too many highlights of unranked teams on espn

the guy you are talking about was still there. I saw him clapping for the guy ecorted out. they both had hawaiian shirts on

I really enjoyed the unnamed poster's bow and salute to the audience on his way out ... way to stay classy, Z!

Speaking of class, or a lack thereof, REALLY did not enjoy the GROWN MEN wearing maroon "Please don't 'Ruff' me up" t-shirts. You kinda expect that from students, but guys in their 40s, not so much. St. Louis should be more of the same, regardless of the outcome of the "fact finding mission."

The guy who got escorted out was begging for it and I'm sure he'll let you know soon. He mouthed off to the cop one time and after that the cop was begging for an excuse to toss him. One touchy word later and he was toast. He did get himself a bow and an ovation for his efforts, however, so congratulations on a great senior night!

Also, I realize that we were undermanned tonight but no one has mentioned that we gave up 45 points in the second half to SIU! They score 63 points per game and we held them well under that pace in the first half only to make them look like Duke in the second. I guess we can put a lot of this on the fatigue factor but that doesn't really support the "played really hard" theory.

Very disappointed with last night's result, moreso since I had the opportunity to watch it on ESPN2.

We had zero inside game because we never even tried to get inside. There was a stat at I think the second TV timeout of the 1st half that showed we were something like 0-2 from 2-point land. 2 attempts in 8-10 minutes? Are you kidding me?

Count me out for the SM scoop-shot love-fest. In my opinion, the reason why that shot goes up like that is because Sam can't get all the way to the rim or doesn't have enough control to gather himself and go up strong at the rim to finish. I think the announcers pointed this out at one point and I remember thinking, "well, at least they got one thing right tonight." Sam also looked really spooked with heavy pressure or a double team, he made some real scary passes out of them. He needs to limit getting turned around or voluntarily turning around and try to stay more face-up to the bucket. Mikey Rad was right, we were way too streched out/pushed out, way outside of the 3-pt line, on offense. Still, Sam's done a lot more and done a lot better than I expect for anybody in their Freshman year.

I'm liking Theron Wilson's game more and more, if he develops a more reliable 3-point shot, he could be lethal. He finds a way to get to the rim right now, as it is, with a better outside game, it'll be even easier. Can't forget his FTs though, it's great to get to the rack and get fouled, but man, you gotta make 'em pay at the stripe.

It was a slugging back and forth game most of the way, but SIU strung together some big buckets and stops to land the knockout at about the 4 minute mark. I think if we would've hit our free throws before that, it might've forced SIU to press a little more on offense, by not letting them hang around so close.

I did like the fact that the announcers seemed to be plugging BU and SIU as still being possible players in the at-large discussion, even though the chances are pretty remote, less so for SIU.

..........MORE MONEY TO PAY OFF THE REFFS!!! obviously the SIU coaching staff's pockets are much deeper than BU's

indeed it never ceases to astound me how these supposedly highly rated refs continually allow certain teams to get away with illegal hand checking and hand contact, but if a player flops hard while playing defense, they blow a charging foul instantaneously!

We were pushed way out because SIU was allowed (mullens) to hand check on defense the whole night, Mullens never keeps his hand off of the person he is guarding and I find it amazing that it does not get called.

The game was called pretty good...even Snell,CB, and Stowell thought so.
Ruffin does the same thing but not as pronounced as Mullins maybe..in any event they are great defenders

Collins

Collins

I really wish everybody would quit the DC needs to play!!! ...Heemskerk had more skills..This team ran out of gas last night because we were missing two starters..I hope the coaching staff can get people ready for MVC tourney and make some kind of showing!!

Yeah, having Cole-Scott and Sam Singh as the only two players providing minutes off of the bench right now is really hurting this team. If those two are your 8th and 9th guys in your rotation, you can get by...but when they are the first two off the bench, that is a bad, bad situation to be in.
It's funny to think back to the conversations we all had at the beginning of the season about how unbelievably deep this team was and how Les was going to have all kinds of problems finding enough minutes for all these guys...Now he finds himself in a situation where he can't find any guys to give all the minutes to.
I guess we'll just need to hope we get Ruff back and take our shot in STL.

One thing to note...several people have talked about how Theron has done a great job at getting to the line but he needs to convert. He was 10 of 15 last night (I'm pretty sure), which is pretty much right at his season average (66%). At this point in the season he is not going to magically turn into an 80% free throw shooter. I'm sure it will be something he works hard at this summer and I would guess he'll be in the 70% range next season.

One thing that made the night bearable for me ... somewhat ... and I don't think it's been mentioned ... Matt Salley's 3 ...?

Did you hear the PA announcer after that 3? "This is Matt Salley's first three of the season, leaving him 86 behind Jeremy Crouch."

Forgive me if my stats are not correct, lol.
