It was announced tonight that Ken Kavanagh is one of 6 finalists for the Athletic Director job at Florida Gulf Coast University.

He survived the first round of phone interviews yesterday, and will travel to Ft. Myers for an on-campus interview next month.

The other five candidates include FGCU interim AD Jo-Ann Nester, Maine AD Blake James, Kent State senior AD Robert Heller, former Butler AD John Parry, now the deputy commissioner of Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis AD Michael Moore.

Could be multiple reasons. More $, He is from the east coast originally, where many of his family still live, a challenge to build a new program, a school that sees itself eventually with a big-time football program, nice weather, etc?

Apparently FGCU has a very very nice campus, and is at a great location, so it's not like it would be a bad place to live! Their college program is relatively new, and has the opportunity to really grow in the future as it is in Florida. I don't think anyone can blame Ken for looking at this opportunity. Hopefully Bradley will be able to find a great person to replace him if he does get the job!

Good Luck to KK......but as a BU fan I would like to keep him around.....but he owes nothing to anyone and needs to do whats right for his family!

Multiple reasons.

Alligators. Fire ants. Poisonous snakes. Hurricanes.

Well, I think KK has been doing a great job and he seems like a very nice guy... So would love to keep him around, but he also needs to do what he needs to do, so I wish him well whatever he decides.

I wish him luck but I hope we are not waiting around. Ken has done a great job with the athletic department and I wish him the best. Who are we lining up to be our new AD? I would think that if you are looking for another job there must be something else happening on the other end. I hope JL gets to help in this decision and it is not left to the academia types alone.

Yets see:rolleyes: Where did the Baseball coach and his assistant come from:doubt:

FGCU isn't only a new program, it's a new school. The school itself was founded in 1991, and it only first held classes in 1997, so it's been around for a total of 12 years.

I'm really struggling to figure out how this would be a good career move for Ken. Nicer climate? Yes! Closer to his roots? Yes! But a career move going from the MVC to Florida Gulf Coast? No. But I wish him well, no matter...

Football Program??? Bigger budget to work with???? Taking a program from scratch and getting them into a bigger conference would be a challange and a stepping stone to a bigger program.

FGCU has a football program? Bigger budget?? If that's your rationale, then bagging the NJIT job would be optimal!
