BU Beats UW-Parkside 87-77

cpac - I just saw it different - we had the horses that pulled away any time we wanted to use them but ...
the coach used the EXHIBITION game to play others and see how things went - thus not only did we get a win
but we learned more than had we just played our starters the whole way.
I never felt we were seriously threatened

Granted I didn't see the game....but we are talking about a DII team that won something like 9 games last season vs. a Missouri Valley Conference team.

The fact is, thru 30 minutes of game time, you guys were TIED. And just inside of 4 minutes, it was a 2 possession game (4 point lead).

Your horses played quite a few too:

TB played 33 of 40 minutes.

Prosser played 32 of 40 minutes.

That's quite a few minutes, wouldn't you agree?

Especially when you consider Parkside didn't have a starter play more than 27 minutes...

No need to panic, regardless.

Not if you saw how the backups played. Nate Wells averaged a foul every 3/4 of a minute last night :)

It seems like the bashers are coming out of the woodwork- maybe instead of a thread asking for positives from last night, we need a dedicated bashing thread.

not going to belabor the point - but the best combo of players was NOT always on the floor no matter who played how many minutes..and two of them were not starters and often in the early going were on the floor with other subs that hurt their production....
once we had DS at PG, and WL, TB, JP, & JE all on the floor at the same time - we immediately zoomed to run of 6 or 8 pts...

seems this is exactly what the story by DR is saying....that BU struggled to get the lead until a few of the right subs helped...
"But Stewart then nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing to launch a 6-point run .."
"Donivine was really timely,” Ford said. “He played really, really well ..."
"Ford also commended junior forward Jake Eastman..“Jake was fantastic for us all night,”
he said. “Really solid on both ends.”
Walt Lemon also had 13 points and made three steals, but committed four turnovers in his debut at point guard."

It was each time we had this combo in and I clearly saw we were strong and could put this game away -- but the subs back and forth might have obscured that to one who only looks at minutes played and final score.

Da Coach...you obviously missed the smiley face at the end...it was a joke. Just having fun. Sheesh. I certainly hope you have a sense of humor.

I'm guessing Nate Wells himself would kind of laugh at his three fouls in two minutes. I doubt he thinks he played well. I wasn't "bashing" anyone. Was there someting incorrect in what I said anyway?

Where is the sarcasm font again?

Fair point but I'm guessing there will be times when DSE is in there. While Donivine and others played well last night give me DSE's two year track record over all others (save Taylor). DSE is easily Bradley's second best player and needs to be on the floor almost all the time.

Yes.....and he was allowed to post his opinion of what he saw. ;)

Obviously not all opinions are going to be the same and people are looking for different things.

I personally think we should look at last night as an exhibition game, not like it is the first game of the MVC!!! I just thought his opinion as a BU fan was negative and not very supportive of a lot of new players and coaches and if he wants a refund then by all means GOOD BYE!! Obviously you can not please everyone... Espicially in the land of 10,000 coaches!!

Guess I forgot to wear my rose colored glasses last night:!:8)

Is there any chance DStewart actually gets serious playing time at the point this year? I sure hope so. He looked like Cool Hand Stew out there.

I know I'm getting too excited for it being an exhibition game, but Stewart impressed me and the rest of the basketball band more then anyone.

I totally agree with you about DS starting. He has had naysayers at every level of play and the kid continues to prove them wrong.

Some kids just have that ability to adapt and excel regardless of the level of competition they're facing, and Donivine is one of them. He makes up for his lack of appealing attributes through hard work and you can tell how much he has improved his ball handling, his ability to create shots for his teammates, and his defense. He's as battle tested as any true Freshman we've had and is ready to start.

I look at DS & I see an Anthony Manuel type ball player. Does not overtly appear to be a classic basketball player, but is just effective.

I choose to be positive about a new coach and not get caught up in how much money he is making!! Give the guy a chance to teach the team and get use to all of them in a game situation and not be critical of the guy before he even gets into the season...If you want to be DEBBIE DOWNER GO TO THE UC DAVIS FORUM!!! Hey how positive were you last year after the Quincy GAME? Did you think JL was getting paid to much then with all the fire power we had in that game? Let it rest you started it with the negative attitude and shot at GENO!!

DS will surprise everyone that has not seen him play

DS will surprise everyone that has not seen him play

I didnt want to say "I told ya so" but...i'm going to ...

"I TOLD YA SO "

I have said before, that I have watched DS play from the time he was in grade school at Peoria Pleasant Valley. He has a sense for the court that is a God given talent and cannot be coached. His basketball IQ is very high. I think his game comes from that, not his physical ability, I was not surprised to see him do what he has been doing the last 10 years. Every year I have heard, "yeah he's good but not at the next level" and each time he has proven himself.

Let me precict now, that he will be one of the all time career assist leaders at Bradley before he leaves.

any ges who my favorite Brave is ?

Since you brought up last year's Quincy game, allow me to share my comments from the "Braves fall to Quincy 86-80" thread on this board from November 6! Look up my comments from that game. They can easily be found!

My comments from 11/6/2010

INEXCUSABLE!

No TEAM concepts on the floor at all! Is it asking too much to go down the court and pass the ball and get movement on our sets and NOT PLAY STREETBALL!

Jake Eastman's defense tonight was abysmal!

AT is what I was afraid he is and that is a fill in player at best!

Note to Walter Lemon-- you are a slasher---no three balls until you completely rework your shot! WL has the potential to be a very good player for us!

After the red/white scrimmage I stated that Jordan Prosser should be in the starting lineup and tonight is further proof that JP is a starter!

Note to BU---please do not ask these ref's back for future events. I am not blaming the ref's for tonight's loss, but that has to be one of the worst officiating crews that I have ever seen.

Good night!

So as you can clearly see, I have been very consistent with my comments about exhibition games regardless of the coaching staff! .8) For the record, I said numerous times on this board that I thought JL should return for one more year, but I could see the reasons for firing JL. I had no intentions of getting into a Geno vs JL pissing match, but you had to go there. I am blasting the staff as I believe that they did a poor job last night against a bad Division II team! I sincerely hope that things improve! Finally, I hope that Geno proves that he is deserving to be among the highest paid coaches in the MVC. So far, I like the recruits he has brought here. But to date, he does not deserve to be among the upper pay scale tier for MVC coaches.

Speaking of the band, "The Final Countdown" needs to be retired.

Now you're just having too much fun Beninator. I can't wait until you begin singing the praises so we can resurrect your old posts. ;)

Beninator........ Good guy....... Just a little late to the party. ;) :)
