BU Commit- 2015- Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye

Wow... I understand it is a highlight tape but that was impressive. This late in the recruiting game for next year I would consider Ronnie and Dwayne good signings with plenty off upside! Great work Coach Wardle and staff.
 
Was at the Bradley baseball game and got a chance to talk with some who have seen this kid play...
He is an outstanding talent - a 6-2 combo guard from London who at 18 years of age is playing on the Bristol Flyers averaging
4 ppg for all games but 8.6 ppg since January when he has played regularly, 2.4 apg and 31.1% on 3-point shooting as backup PG to 27-year old pro Greg Streete.

(the international 3-point line is 22 ft-1 3/4 inches -
(which is almost 1 ft-5 inches further than the NCAA line)

He is getting better every game and in his most recent game just last week - he started and scored 19 points & had 4 rebs, 4 asst, 2 steals
...and in his last 4 games (that he has started all four) - he's averaged 13.3 ppg (remember - this isn't a junior team, it is a top pro league team!)

one other note - Lautier-Ogunleye has always wanted to play college ball so he has never taken money or any salary and has kept necessary records such that it will not be an issue.

NCAA rules changed just a couple years ago to allow players who retain their amateur status to play in NCAA D-I no matter what club team they played on

I'm glad that documentation is available. The NCAA has not always been too kind to Bradley regarding the qualification of foreign players.

It depends on which country his high school credits and transcripts are coming from. I don't think the NCAA generally has problems with kids from Great Britain, where transcripts are easily documented. Other countries, especially African countries, the NCAA is a lot more skeptical.
 
Followed BU for years, long time lurker and hoops fan. Had friends play there, last was Drew warren. Felt I had something to add so I signed in finally after years of being here.


I was able to talk to contacts in the BBL. Good pick up, nice moves to the rim and decent passer. Not a great jump shooter but adequate. Hung 18 on one of them so they respect his abilities. Players felt it was a nice pick up for Coach and Bradley. Reports from guys in the league with him.

He has been playing vs former D1 athletes like Taylor King, Scott Martin, Derek Elston so he has been at a decent level to assess talent. Bristol heads in to playoffs vs Newcastle as the 8th seed playing 1. Not seeing much hope there but it is good experience.

I think he is going to be a nice player and the experience he has had in juniors and playing with the pro team is going to help. Looking forward to watching. With one of my Chicago buddies relocating to Eureka I may have to make the trip for a few games.

Are there any other amateur players in English or elsewhere that you are aware of?
What about Josh Steel? He plays for Medway Park and is their leading scorer? From reading about the English leagues on Hoopsfix.com (website dedicated to basketball in England), he may be among the best of group of amateur players over there who are D1 college-ready.

Worcester always has guys coming through and there are a great many D1 coaches who are continuously looking. As the BBL grows and the grass roots instruction goes forward they are winning fans and kids are actually playing hoops as opposed to futbol. Most of the pro teams in the BBL have 14U 18U teams associated with them. http://www.bbl.org.uk/home/ Coaches here are pretty good about using our guys over there to take a minute and look at players they may see or have contact with to get a feel how they stack up. There is a growing base of knowledge and recruiting effort around the globe to find players. England, Oz and NZ are places where our kids are there post grad and able to feed into the recruiting trail. Steel is in the EBL one division down and has been making some noise but none of the guys I talk to have actually been able to see him play. The clubs over there have no problem bringing guys through and playing in the pro side as amateurs if they feel they will be an addition and they are always looking for guys to fill out rosters (unpaid of course LOL)

And in the other thread I had to laugh as that has long been the knock on Okafor at Richmond IN as no one actually knew his age or where in Africa he came from.
