BU commitment- class of 2009- Dyricus Simms-Edwards

Always good to hear when the coaching staff lands the guy they wanted.

It's an interesting roster mix with a good amount of experience returning, but many young players.

interesting what the Shocker fans say about DSE to BU...

they are very positive.....

here are a couple comments...

"I hope he chooses Bradley"

"We are really going to hate playing against this kid for the next 4 years."

"I'm with ya.
I'd love to see the Valley get and stay strong and Bradley should be a big part of that. They're capable of it.
And it's always nice to see a Valley school win a recruiting battle against a B12 school."

"Simms-Edwards signs with the Braves.
Good for them

gotta admit...it is a far cry from the anti-BU stuff we see elsewhere...

As an alum of both Washington High and Bradley, I couldn't be happier to have DSE as a Brave! :)

Great job by Coach Les to keep a talented local kid at home to play ball and get a top notch education...well done!

IMO, it's more like anti-KSU sentiment...but you make a good point.

Great to see BU land another quality 4-year player. I just hope DSE and the other freshman don't get impatient with what will probably be limited playing time in the first year or so. AI don't want to see another situation where we lose a quality guy like Norris. I want these talented players to come and STAY!

Great point, and something I was thinking of after I heard the good news. Eastman and Simms-Edwards should be completely cognizant of the situation in the backcourt. There are no surprises here. Their freshman year, playing time will likely be hard to come by barring an injury. However, Dunson and Roberts will be gone after their freshman year. Warren and Maniscalco will be gone after their sophomore year. A little old-fashioned patience for year should be have them rewarded with loads of playing time their sophomore year forward. That's how it used to work, and that's how it should work. I think it will work, I really do.

And beat out BCS teams to get them. It's the first time in a long time that has happened (and I believe first time since the PJ Star started handing out those awards).

There's NO EXCUSES anymore. Facilities are coming. Talent is there. Fan support has ALWAYS been there. We've done all the 2nd rate tournaments known to man. It's time to win some titles and do some dancing. Anything less will be a disappointment. Let's do it NOW!

I still don't think next year is the year. I just don't see an NCAA team there. I see potential to be one,but I don't see it. The NIT would be promising and I'd be happy with that as it shows progress. However, the year after next ('10-'11) is the year we need to make the NCAA otherwise it is a disappointment.

And congratulations to BU and DSE.

This is probably where a local kid playing at BU will be to our advantage...
It will be easier for them to get through the transition of HS to college hoops pt by having their families here nearby. 8)

Next year the pieces have to fall in place to dance... I dont like to make any predictions until I see how these guys play as a team. The year after looks really good on paper!

I'm sorry, it's got to be 'a' year. I'm tired of of the Not Invited Tournaments and trying to sugarcoat mediocrity. It's time to contend for a title and for an NCAA bid again. Once every decade doesn't cut it, especially when we have first-class facilities coming, great fan support, and land the areas top two players to go along with an experience-laden basketball team.

There is no-reason the Braves can't win the Valley next season with all the depth on next years team!

I think we will contend but due to the fact that we have players that know the system inside and out but we still will not have a proven big man unless someone really steps up and or WE overcomes his injury quicker then anyone anticipates. The following year though will be totally different. After that my patience will have worn out most probably.

That's why I am guardedly optimistic. Teams that not only win in this league, but also are able to win in March have several big bodies that are more than just 'serviceable'. Case in point - Oakland and ODU. Both teams came in to our gym and worked us inside big time. We were a 75 foot miracle from going 0-2 at home to a couple of teams that come from lesser leagues IMO. Why? Inside quality and depth. Guards are great, but we need beef to be able to get to where we want to go in the league and in March.

Welcome to BU Dyricus! You made an excellent choice.

On a side note, here is an anomoly....

If PJStar is accurate and Dyricus is listed at 6'2, he will become the FIRST scholarship player to play for Bradley THIS DECADE at the listed height of 6'2. We've had our share of 5'11, 6'0, 6'3 and up, but have not had a single scholarship player listed at 6'2 this decade.

I often think of players in terms of their height, so when I saw him listed at 6'2, it made me wonder who our last 6'2 player was. I looked back at our rosters of the past 10 years and couldn't find any scholarship players. I can't even think back before that who it may have been.

I have WAY to much time on my hands.

My am I old- I broadcast his dad's games when he played in hs the same time my brother did- I broadcast DSE the past few years and now he is coming to my alma mater!

DSE said he chose BU because the guys were great and he felt he would grow as a person and a basketball player- Welcome DSE- good choice IMO!

DS- Edwards 6'2
JP - Prosser 6'8
JW- Wilkins 6'9
SH - Harris 6'7
JE - Eastman 6'4
MK - Knezevic 6'8

OK, I will say it, you got to love it, especially all the height:!::biggrin: This height along with these are players is what will make this class winners.
Welcome aboard DSE, get ready for the ride:!:
Great job JL and staff, now lets play BIG:!:;-)
