BU commitment- class of 2009- Dyricus Simms-Edwards

What is the deal with this guy...I've been hearing mixed reviews. Some seem to love him and others seem to just be okay with him. It's been known that our main priority for next season is another lights out shooter....what type of player is DSE? Can he shot and does he make his free throws? He doesn't seem to fit our size that we wanted (@ least 6-3) but if he can shoot then it'll be good.

I am not sure he is quite as good of shooter as we would like. He is a good all around player though and I thought he was 6"3" now. Hopefully with practice he can improve his outside shot (He isn't a bad outside shooter). Then again I have only seen him play maybe 3 or 4 times. So i could be wrong.

I believe with AW coming back, DN having another year, SM with the AW factor and hopefully EM improving or more like taking the top of the key shot that we'll be adequatley supplied with shooter for next year. The following year we get to add JW. So we would all love to have that shooter next year but if we get a guy that can fill DD's shoes the following year after he graduates, I'd be fine with that. We can always find a shooter or two with the following class.

I agree. The more I think about this, the more I realize we need a shooter that is absolutely lights out. And if our coaching staff can't find one at the end of recruiting for this class, don't "settle" for a sub-par shooter to come in as a shooter.

DSE works well because we have had trouble in two areas this year (among many others...) but we couldn't ever get into a nice rhythm of 3s because we had little inside/penetration (and a lack of consistent shooters). We have AW, SM (and maybe EM as SFP said) that will be able to shoot. And be able to focus on shooting. If we can get a guy who can be a penetration threat and has a decent shot, I think we hit a jackpot.

Get some good guys penetrating, back-to-the-basket, and solid shooters, and we'll be set. I'm all aboard the DSE train!

I like the sounds of Dyricus. Never having seen him play and just listening to comments about him sounds like a find and really good fit for BU.

Dyricus we would welcome you with open arms!

I believe one of JL's biggest criteria and one that I also find at the top of my list for a recruit is that they want to be part of the Braves family once they learn about what it is about. How many players do we have where we were the backup choice even after they came and visit? If we go in this direction I am sure it is because the kid will work his tail off to improve and show the team that he can make a difference.

If he picks Air Force, one of 3 schools in the nation that went 0 for whatever in their conference, i will be majorly surprised.

Unless I completely misunderstood what the Washington coach just said on 96.5 minutes ago, DSE has been offered a scollie to Bradley! Can we get a confirmation on that. Did I hear it correctly or is it wishful thinking on my part?

The bottom line is that nobody on this board can tell you yes or no.
If his coach confirmed he was offered, he probably did receive some form of scholarship offer. I'd love to see him at Bradley!

But, realize that offers can come in a number of ways:
-an unconditional offer- "we're holding a scholarship for you"- this is the type of offer given to a school's highest priority recruits.
-a scholarship offer will be made after the season, if he holds doesn't commit elsewhere and is still available then.
-a scholarship offer could come if he makes grades, or develops as expected
-a scholarship will come if they still have one available when the LOI period comes.
-a scholarship will come if the schools higher choice recruits don't take it first.
-a scholarship is available, but he has to decide quickly or it could go to someone else.
-a scholarship is available, but only if he agrees to redshirt a year, or to go to prep school a year.
-"a scholarship will be yours", if one of our current recruits and players back out or leave.
and there are probably a lot more "contingencies" that come with scholarships.

Who knows what type of scholarship offer is on the table for DSE. What I do know, is that from what little I have seen, I think that DSE would be a nice fit to our recruiting class.

I have watched him the last 2 years and his biggest improvement has been outside shooting/free throws. He has come a long way on outside game. Is he the pure shooter that everybody seems to be looking for? No. But could he be a guy that could help us on the outside? Yes.
If we were able to get him to BU, my thoughts are that he'd be a perfect redshirt due to the logjam in the backcourt. He's had hand and foot injuries that could use a year to heal. He's not ready to be a PG in the Valley at this point in my opinion and thus allot of uncertainty regarding his recruitment. He's pretty small to play the 2(6' 3").But his upside is big and he has been coached well.Let's get him!

6'3 would actually be average or even above average in the Valley...our "2" this year was 6'0. I have never seen DSE play but those I trust say he would be a good fit at BU. I don't see him playing significant minutes ahead of McCain, Sammy, Warren, Roberts, or Dunson, but can see where he would fit in to this team in 2010-2011 and beyond.

That's why I say he's a bit small to play the 2 and probably one reason why BU has 14 losses. Let's get some bigger athletes on the permiter. I know 6'5" guys with skills are in the B10.Other Mid Majors have them, let's get some. DSE would be a nice fit if he improves his ball handling and shooting because he could play both positions.
