uh oh....from President Gary Roberts..
"..he current financial structure of Division I college athletics is unsustainable."

Bradley has to get successful quickly as the past 6-7 years of horrible performances and bad economics has Bradley on the verge of dropping out of DI

"Such changes (the BCS schools making so much $) could run the gamut from a split of Division I basketball and other sports into two divisions (such as already exists in football) to individual schools deciding unilaterally to downsize to the less expensive worlds of Division II or III."

Division 2

Division 2

I'm not sure about the idea of going Division 2.I do think Bradley needs to at least consider it so they can be more competitive.I know people are optimistic right now after winning 3 games in a row but I'm not sure we can compete and make it to the top again in the Missouri Valley.

You think the attendance is down now? Drop down and you might as well drop out all together. Start winning again and the crowds will reappear.

I don't like the tone of that article one bit. But Chico is absolutely spot on. Drop down you might as well fold it. Win, and the butts re-appear.

The article is a bit confusing, but I don't think Dr. Roberts is referring to a drop down to Division 2 or 3 as we now know it. The paragraph that mentioned that D2 or D3 possibility (paragraph 5) was not a quote from Dr. Roberts, but from DR.
I think Dr. Roberts was referring to an approaching new alignment that might come in the NCAA with the Power Conferences forming their own higher division, and other schools not in the Power 5 Conferences left to reorganize into some kind of reshuffled secondary division. If that is what happens, Bradley will have no choice but to align with the secondary schools that do not play big time football.

Let separation happen. Not saying going D2 or lower. I am suggesting the arrogance of the Power 5 and all their money wants it - let them have it.

Let separation happen. The attraction will decrease for their product. Let the Power 5 have their own level. Their own season of games of playing each other and every now and then against someone outside the Power 5.... like it is in football. And like I said.... the attraction will decrease for their product.

Don't get me wrong. They may have the "best" players and "best" coaches.... but the excitement will decrease.

For example... a 12 seed beating a 5 in the NCAA is exciting. Yes. But... more exciting when Arkansas-Little Rock stuns Purdue (2016 game). Not so exciting when OMiss beats Wisconsin or when Oregon beats Oklahoma State (2013 tournament games).

It's the lure of THE LITTLE GUY beating a Power 5 team.... not a 12 seed beating a 5 seed.

And the Power 5 just don't get it.

So.... let them get their separation. And soon .... the mystique of March Madness will be gone for the Power 5's tourney.

MM- I think the big boys can live with that as long as they get all the money to themselves.

And I could live with it too... screw the big money. NBA is big money. NBA is BORING. Power 5 will become just a semi-pro level that will be boring as well.

Competitive college basketball that is attractive and interesting to watch and follow will be outside the Power 5.
