BU mentioned with Granger on ESPN2

This morning on the sportscenter updates between Mike & Mike on ESPN2, they had a clip about Danny Granger. They said that BU was the only D1 school to offer. Too bad that didn't work out b/c he is a stud for the Pacers this year.
 
Hope he catches his ride to the All-Star game. Don't think Danny would be available to bail him out.
 
To bad him, Tisby and Tucker couldnt stick around for 4 years, might have been very special.

Then again it took a real classy move by a BU alum to make sure a 3rd of that didnt happen... you always stay classy Duane.
 
Granger's decision to leave Bradley never came up until well after Broussard had been calling Granger, his family, and his past coaches for quite some time.

A lot of college players become unhappy, but most don't pull out and leave at midseason, like Granger did. I think it's highly likely he would have remained at Bradley for the second semester of the 2002-2003 season if not for the numerous comforting "happy birthday" calls made by the coach at New Mexico.

Agree to disagree I guess. A decent amount of guys leave at the semester. I don't think guys leave unless they want to leave. Sitting out a year is not optimal. Duane is a charming guy but I doubt he had that much pull.

Either way, I doubt Danny would have stayed all four years and we won't ever know anyway. I really like watching him play for the Pacers.
 
Duane gave Danny what he wanted- a welcoming alternative to his situation at Bradley, and that facilitated the move. Without the New Mexico offer, I think the Grangers stick it out at Bradley.
 
Agreed DC...Duane facilitated the greener side of the fence...with the great talent Granger had and the pending graduations of the players he did not get along with I would agree he would have been a 4 year player for the Braves!

I dont care what Danny Granger's mind set was or wasnt, what Duane Broussard did to Bradley is inexcusable and for that he should chastised for what he did to the school, that gave him the opportunity to have a free education and gave him the opportunity to begin his career as a basketball coach. The continual calls and verbal interaction had a huge influence on Granger. Sure he might have left but to New Mexico on his own accord, highly doubtful.

He never deserves any forgiveness, but then again I have never heard him appolgized for his blatent actions versus Bradley University.
 
If it means anything, the violation against Broussard has put his coaching career on hold since he is now the director of operations at UNM while he is obtaining his PhD.

I guess we will never know. Danny was a great player. He would have found a home somewhere.

Wether he would or would NOT have stayed is not the issue IMO....the issue is BU should have had the opportunity to fix the problem without any outside illegal interference. IF Granger left after JL's attempt to rectify what was wrong...so be it.

Its like my wife and I having problems and during counseling some guy sweeps her off her feet. She's vulnerable at that moment and she's MY wife so stay the heck away.

I dont know. No one leaves a relationship they love unless they want to or are forced to. The willingness to leave has to be there in the first place.

Your correct...we don't know DB's intentions but we DO know it is against NCAA rules. So the preponderance of evidence goes against DB. The perception alone should have told DB to stay away.

Lee..IF DB had only good intentions why not be up front from the start...phone JL...phone KK and say here's whats going on. A courtesey call would have been nice. What if roles had been reversed and JL was calling some UNM stud that was having problems.....?

Do you honestly want to know why? Cause it happens all the time. Guys with connections to former players, coaches, etc. talk to people they know--even if they are at a different school. Its not a big deal. Honestly its not.

Im not a fan of dragging Duane Broussard through the mud.

Just curious how often do these "friendly" calls to former coaches players etc end up with the player leaving his current program and ending up enrolled at the school the former coach happens to work for?

I have a feeling, regardless of the NCAA stance on what happened to BU, they would have a big huge problem with Shumpert receiving uninitiated calls from JL, just because JL used to know him, GTech might have a slight problem with that also.

Personally Broussard has not been drug through the mud enough for what he did to Bradley.
