BU recruit- class of 2009- Darius Smith

this puzzles even all the IU fans...
they are already oversigned by one for 2009 and are in hot pursuit of a couple of big men, which is clearly their greatest need.
If they are also going hard after Darius, then they must be planning on at least two of their present scholarship guys not returning.

Darius Smith was the best player in the state tour. last year, he would be a very good player to have at BU.
Indiana most likely is going to be pulling scholarships after this season with the excuse that coach Crean did not recruit these players, the biggest problem I have with this is they could not have fielded a team had these guys not honored their committments to Indiana.

From another thread-

Now, after a stellar start to the season, the 6'1 Marshall High guard has released a list of schools.
Indiana, Kentucky, Marquette, DePaul, and Arizona are his top 5, with Iowa, Nebraska, Oregon State, Southern Illinois, UAB,
and Arizona State all still involved."

I get Indiana (Opportunity/Big Ten),Kentucky,Marquette,Arizona.

But why Depaul besides hometown? Bradley is close and a much better program. And SIU ? Having a terrible year, they may be back, but if you are considering the MVC why SIU when Bradly has been recruiting him all along?

ESPN doesn't have him listed as being considered by Bradley (or him considering us) any longer. He was on there two days ago.

Not that ESPN is the most up-to-date... maybe some of you with premium scout/rivals access can check?

It sounded like he ruled us out based on that last interview, so maybe thats why they removed him.

I am not an expert, but he seems like a better player than Iman Shumpert. Shumpert is doing great at Georgia Tech. I think I am going to really regret not getting Smith. I wish he would still visit. He could be a star at BU. And we could have a really loaded team with him.

W - O - W. That kid can finish, and the defense looks great, and he looks very long in the arms. The only thing I didn't see in those clips was any passing, but otherwise I saw a ton there. It seems like you've backed off us, but we're still here and you can be a star here, Darius.

If he's as good as Shumpert, he'll be a star wherever he goes...The "lowered bar of stardom" in the Valley won't hold any value to a recruit of his caliber. If he's good enough to be a star in any league, he is likely out of our league.

The article also says--

That??™s the type of player that everyone is looking for this spring, Indiana included. Cotton said the Hoosiers have offered Smith a scholarship and have made their interest well known.

???They??™ve shown a lot of interest,??? Cotton said. ???While NCAA rules limit the amount they can call him, they can contact me at any time and I get my share of calls. We can also call them, the ones that (Darius) is interested in.???

Considering Indiana appears to already be over the limit of scholarships for next season, how can the coach keep offering more scholarships to recruits like Darius Smith?

Don't know what to think on the illini having an opening for 2009....either someone will not be back or C. Head will go to prep school?

Little article talking about eight sleepers for the class of 2009 and Darius Smith is one of them. They say the front runner for Smith is Indiana but he is also considering Arizona State, Dayton, Washington State, Illinois, Kentucky and DePaul.

Another recruit on the list is Marcus Jordan and they list the front runner as Illinois! Even though he previously stated he would not go to the same university as his older brother Jeffery.

Would make me sad if he ended up at Indiana... But I hope wherever he does go he'll have a great experience.

And too bad he didn't mention us in that Suntimes article. I fondly remember that one time he did and gave us the love for being in contact with him early and often.
