Crider did not want to redshirt or go prep initially. That is why he requested his release from Providence. But apparently after getting other advice, he has decided the prep school route is what he now wants to do.
some kids who go prep school hit the jackpot...
witness how the prep school route helped a kid who BU was once involved with long ago--Mitch McGary..
a couple years ago McGary was barely known outside of central Indiana and had only a few mid-majors interested..
Then he reclassified, went to prep school, waited until this late signing period and has blown up enough that he's now a 5-Star, getting dozens of BCS offers, and now zoomed to #5 http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1222303
despite saying he was going to announce his chioce and plans a few weeks ago -- Markus Crider apparently still is just out there hanging...
In an article about one of the Dayton recruit a couple days ago there was this comments about Dayton's remaining open scholarship... "...it doesn’t look like Markus Crider has been picked up by anyone
since he requested his release from Providence after a coaching change.
I’m very surprised the Flyers haven’t entertained an offer to him."
I had a strong feeling he didn't think Bradley was a high enough level. We seemed very interested and he didn't visit. Just a hypothetical question. If he was even interested in us, we have no way to give him a scholarship this year do we? Will being unable to play this year has no effect on his scholarship being used this year does it? I am pretty sure there is no way to move him to a different kind of scholarship for one year. Like I said that is just a hypothetical question since he didn't seem overly interested in BU.
He had previously stated he was going to a year of prep school so almost everyone, including Bradley, backed off but kept him on the speed-dial as a 2012 recruit...
However -- I have yet to see anything saying if he's enrolled anywhere..
Ohio prep star Markus Crider, a high scoring 6-foot-5 wing who had initially pledged to Providence,
and who was on Bradley's radar screen when Geno got here.....
has made his decision....
He will attend prep school at Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, ME
BU really wanted him but he went to prep school instead hoping for BIGGER & BETTER offers....
A recent premium article said he had a "good year" but not a particularly great year - and oddly the offers did NOT come!!
Here's what he boasts now... "I haven’t narrowed it down at all. I have been hearing from a lot of schools.
Some of them are St. Bonaventure, Iona, George Mason, and Georgia State.
Those are the ones that called me most recently.”
Right now Crider is planning an official visit to Georgia State, and then hopes
to visit some of his other top schools afterwards."
So - he turned down Providence, Bradley, and a few other biggies and is now left visiting Georgia State & a couple other eastern mid-majors...
I think he still may have the talent if he's willing to come to Peoria -- hopefully Geno still has his phone number...
BTW -- St. Bonaventure & Providence going hard after Michigan's Evan Smotrycz - so may not be as hot for Mislav & Markus. https://mobile.twitter.com/TheRecruitScoop/status/183250555374796801
Are we still in on Crider? If Brzola, Ward, and the other options don't pan out, I think Crider would be a nice get. We need a talented forward who can score.
He reopened his recruitment when he was getting Big East and other top offers...and decided to go the prep school route..
He did not have a great year and recruiting fell off..........
latest word is he's sorting thru a bunch of LOW major offers - St. Bonaventure, Iona, etc...
..although some late interest might develop from bigger schools like Nebraska as the spring frenzy heats up for coaches with open scholarships (like BU, SIU, Illinois, K-State, Nebraska, etc..) http://nebraska.247sports.com/Article/2012-forward-emerges-for-Huskers-69661
Markus Crider - one time BU recruit...who was a pretty hot commodity last fall when he decommitted from Providence - but he chose the prep school route,
and unlike a lot of kids who blow up after the prep school move - Crider virtually disappeared.........
