Bradley is recruiting 2012 big man Darius Paul. He is a 6'8" power forward from Warren Township HS in Gurnee, Illlinois. He is a very athletic big man who is still growing. He had a great July playing AAU ball, and is now getting interest from a bunch of high majors and midmajors. He is a very good rebounder, but he is also a very good 3-point shooter for a big man.

He is the younger brother of 2009 Illinois Mr. Basketball, and current Illini guard, Brandon Paul. I have heard he will be making a visit to Peoria this weekend.

Darius played two games here in Peoria at the Civic Center when Gurnee Warren played in the semi-final and final of the Class 4A Championship last March.
Warren lost in the championship game to Simeon...but in his two games at State -
Darius had 16 pts/9 rebs and only one turnover, and 11 pts/2 rebs in a foul plagued final but still only one TO
He also went 12-14 on the weekend from the FT line.

I sat next to his mom for a game last March and she said she was a little disappointed he wasn't getting more looks then he was. Sounds like that has changed. I think he'd make a great Brave but maybe he's beginning to blow up.

He was on campus the weekend of Aug. 4-5 for the Bradley Elite camp. Bradley is still recruiting him, but there is nothing more than that to report.

Western Michigan's recent success in recruiting the Chicago area is the direct result of last summer's hiring of Larry Farmer as an assistant. Farmer, who is a former coach at Loyola (1996-2004), as well as a former head coach at UCLA and Weber State. He didn't have much coaching success at Loyola, but he developed a number of strong recruiting connections as well as his recognizability that make him an effective recruiter.

Seeing Western Michigan load up is getting me ready for some recruiting success from Bradley. Guess I was spoiled by how fast we signed players after Geno was hired.

One other Western Michigan question. Bradley was recruiting a big guard that ended up going to Western Michigan maybe 2-3 years ago. I think he was from the area around Rockford maybe? Anyone remember who he was and did he end up having success at WMU? I think he may have been an AAU teamate of either JP or DSE.

2 of Western Michigan's 2011 recruits were once recruiting targets of Bradley's:
Hayden Hoerdemann from Bloomington Central Catholic HS, and Austin Ritchie of Lowell (Indiana) High School will both be freshmen this year at WMU.

But the one you may be thinking of was David Brown, a 6'3" guard. He was a 2009 grad from Rockton Hononegah HS that Bradley recruited. He played in 27 games as a freshman in 2009-2010 and averaged 9.4 mpg and 2.4 ppg. He was injured as a sophomore (2010-2011) and only played in 9 games, averaging 4.1 ppg, and qualified for a redshirt year.

There was also a kid back in 2006 that committed to WMU that Bradley liked a lot named David Kool. He finished a pretty good career at WMU in 2010 (21.6 ppg his senior year and 17 ppg for his career), and is now an assistant coach there-

Former 2012 Bradley recruit Darius Paul, who was named Freshman of the Year in the MAC. But he has announced he is leaving Western Michigan University.

wow - yeah - he was a good player - would have loved to have had his numbers on our squad...
wonder if he'd still be interested in BU now after we passed on him

...already some talk that he's going to Illinois as we know Groce is from the MAC - loves the transfers from mid-majors, and Darius is the brother of Brandon Paul who flourished in Groce's system and was given free reign to shoot whenever he wanted.

some news on Darius Paul
http://illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1508250

he reveals his only offer out of high school was Western Michigan where he had a great freshman season, "proved he has high major talent" and was Newcomer of the Year!

"I was at Western Michigan and I thought I could go higher, so I decided to
transfer," Paul said.
Other programs that showed interest in Paul included Florida, Iowa State, Marquette, Miami (Fla.), Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada.
But once he had a chance to speak with Illinois head coach John Groce and visit the school, the deal was done.

"Coach Groce called me and we talked for a while," Paul said. "He talked to me about how I fit and what they are trying to do at Illinois.
It was great. Then I got to know him well on my visit and decided that was the right place."

"They are talking about not only getting to the NCAA Tournament, but winning a lot of games in the tournament," Paul said. " We want to be one of the top teams in the Big Ten every year"."
