BU recruit- class of 2013- Nathan Taphorn

From what I understand he likes both sports equally. I'll be curious if he would be allowed to play two sports because they really don't overlap too much.

Here was last season's golf schedule, and the season does overlap quite a bit with basketball, especially when you consider the preseason and off-season practices and training schedules-

But the training for each sport is completely different, and requires such dedication that I have not heard of any athlete who was able to play both D1 golf and basketball, and do either one well. I seriously doubt any D1 coach would want one of his scholarship players trying to play another sport like golf.

I know Dave Lundstrum from Galesburg played basketball for the Braves and later played pro golf but don't know if he played golf for Bradley as I wasn't paying much attention to golf back then.

I don't think Coach Roach would turn away anyone who could shoot in the mid 70's and lower. The question would be in the spring semester as their schedules could be mixed up for a couple of months. It certainly would be an extra inducement to give him the opportunity to play 2 sports in college. Might be something BU needs to do if he starts to get offers from some BCS schools.

Speaking of golfing Taphorns...

"Karson Taphorn shot an even par 35 at Pine Lakes to help the (Morton) girls
team to a 166-224 victory over Limestone)"

Karson is Nate Taphorn's cousin, daughter of Matt (played at ISU) in Morton...
Matt's son Chase plays football for Morton

A couple pics of Nate on the Pekin golf team

This is NOT a knee jerk offer. He would be a great get if we can pull it off. I've known his father a very long time. In fact I officiated many of his games in HS. The kid can play and will only get better. Here's hoping we can get him on the hilltop in a couple of years. If not mistaken I think he is related to JC thru marriage. Don't know if that would help now or not.

The relation to Crouch by marriage needs a flow chart to determine.

How's his recruiting going? You would have to believe he would be a perfect fit for BU.

I talked to his dad several weeks ago and Nate is very interested in BU but is keeping his options open. He likes GF alot so that has to help. Dad said he and mom would like him to stay close to home so they can see him play. Think BU Nate think BU.We'd love to see you as a Brave. What ever you do DON'T listen to Uncle Matt.

I'm one of the guys who really does not care where a recruit comes from but the 2013 class would be great with a few local guys! :-o

Pekin is 2-1 over the Holiday weekend (Decatur Tourney)...and Nate Taphorn is averaging 13 ppg...
he also played tough defense in his Saturday game, holding a 21 ppg scorer to single digits...
Nathan was at the Illini's Sunday game...

Pekin is now 3-1 after beating Limestone and Nate is averaging 12.5 ppg, 6 rpg, 4 steals..
His numbers are not gawdy...and so the attention may be less than it was last summer -- with Bradley still one of his only two offers.
