BU recruit- class of 2013- Thomas Hamilton, Jr.

He also mentions the other recruit visiting was Jordan Swopshire - a Top 150 kid from out east - Montrose Christian..
but he is originally from O'Fallon - and is the younger brother of Northwestern's Jared Swopshire..

He's obviously talented - doesn't have any major offers, but currently our biggest needs are big man, pg, and outside shooter - and Swopshire is more of a
small forward, Taylor Brown kind.

I think Geno likes these types of players.

Trying to keep things positive and on topic. :) Consider it a birthday present!

Anyway, what does everyone think of Tommy Hamilton (This Thread) Yea or nea?

I like the fact he would be a decent shooter and passer added to the mix. I just hope he would fit in with our current hard working players. He sounds like he has been making progress this year.

hey - if we get him and if he has a nice career - I am sure some other Chicago kid will see and maybe consider BU as well..

I think the "lazy" narrative on Thomas is overblown. I think he feel in the rankings because his skill was overrated early in his High School career and he had exposure. I think he could be a very good player at Bradley, and help in a few ways early on, I just don't think he had the skill to be a top 50 type player that would immediately contribute at a high major.

I think evaluators don't like to admit they were wrong, so it's easier to say he didn't work hard enough than say Tommy isn't as skilled as they thought.

But then why are there so few teams recruiting him, and few other offers?

I thought I had read a couple bigger shools had been in contact last week? Auburn and someone else. Either way even if they aren't involved i think he is a good enough player for the MVC.

I think he's a MM - HM tweener, so to speak. According to Rivals, Oklahoma State and Auburn have recently offered. I think high major schools are leery he's not quite skilled enough for them, and mid-majors don't want to invest a ton of time because his profile suggests he'll ultimately take a late offer from a high major.

I'm sure we are spending more time than many mid-major's because of the very close relationship he has with Chin. I think he would be a very good get for us, even if he's not an immediate impact guy.

I know - but all the BCS schools recruit mid-major prospect big guys to coming and sitting just in case (Max Bielfeldt, Ibby Djimde, Kyle Rowley..)
That's because they always have insurance if they have injury or depth problems and sometimes the BCS-level guys go pro early and they don't want to be caught with a short bench..
Many of those kids who get stuck on the far end of a BCS bench - might have had great careers had they chose and played at a lesser schools (McDermott, Echenique, O'Bryant, Carmichael, Marcus Arnold..)

I agree that is what we need to sell them on. I think mid-major's spend some time talking to these kids and those around them and determine what is important to them. If they think playing time is the top priority, they stick it out. If they think the most prestigious offer is most important, they'll pass.

I think most mid-majors viewed Tommy as a guy who was going to end up valuing a "high major" offer as most important, and as such prioritized other recruits. I think his relationship with Chin give Bradley a reason to believe we may be able to convince him Bradley is a better option for him than late arriving high majors.

For these kids, it comes down to what's more important. Do they want to play college basketball in a good conference as a freshman, or do they want to go to a BCS level conference, sit on the bench for most of their career, and enjoy major college football? In all seriousness, these kids almost always take the highest level offer they get. It's just how it goes.

Roy Schmidt of Preps Bullseye just tweeted this:

A big one is on campus today in Lincoln Park (literally and figuratively) as 6'9 2013 PF Tommy Hamilton is on an official visit to DePaul.

Do we still have a chance to land him?? Or do we want Blake/Delaney for last scholarship

Hamilton will also visit Bradley within the next week or so and BU will host other kids as soon as we're done playing for the season.......
- we can offer significant playing time right away and just maybe Hamilton is smart enough not to aim too high so as to look silly trying to defend the 7-footers in the Big East..

BTW - DePaul's only really good player is their big power forward Cleveland Melvin - who will grab the bulk of the playing time in TH's spot next year -

here's a thought -- with Tubby Smith out at MN - and maybe Alex Foster reopening his recruitment - wouldn't be something if Bradley can land Hamilton & Foster - two of the big three!!

Heard tubby was out but hadn't thought about Foster. That would be great if we could get Delaney, foster and Hamilton. I've been telling all my Cardinal friends to "Fear the Cubs" but if we could land those 3 maybe it should be "Fear the Braves".

There's not much on what's happening with Hamilton - but the mere fact that he's big, he's unsigned, and it's getting close to the April signing period and schools are suddenly seeing scholarships open up...
all cause his recruitment to be taking off.......
He was at DePaul Tuesday but no verbal and reportedly he's been hearing from Boston College & UCLA and that other trips are planned.
As I said earlier - I just hope he has a realistic sense of his own abilities and doesn't waste his time aiming too high.
