BU Recruit Followup

Here's some followup on a kid that nearly chose BU....Devin Hill, who ended up committing to DePaul.

Devin's team won their first game 86-67 and Devin recorded a TRIPLE DOUBLE!
He had 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 blocks even though he picked up 4 fouls early, sat a whole bunch and then rested as his team ran away in garbage time!
Wow.....sad to see such a great talent headed to DePaul....:) (just joking...I think the Demons got a good one in Devin!)

Here is news about another little-know BU recruit last spring--
Bradley offered Arturas Valeika of Midland College (the school Asst. Coach Alvin Brooks III coached at), but he committed to Weber State.
He is off to a very good start. He is averaging 14.8 ppg and 11.6 rpg for Weber State after 5 games. The 11.6 rebounds per game is good for 8th best in the country right now (the top rebounder in the MVC is Coleman at 9.3 rpg). In addition, he is shooting 61.9% from the field, and even 57.1% on 3-pointers! Weber State is 2-3 and next plays at Illinois on Saturday.

Roy Bright is now a senior at Delaware State. He was picked as the MEAC conference preseason Player of the Year.

Tonight (Friday) he scored 28 points in DSU's 77-44 win over Allen.

Attendance at Delaware State was an unbelieveable 130!

A little followup on ex-BU recruit Roy Bright.......
Yes, he was selected as the Preseason POY in his conference (the MEAC),
He is doing pretty well, but so far most of the DSU opponents have been pretty weak and/or non-D-I.

First....Delaware State lost last night to Arizona State 77-38, one of their worst defeats in YEARS.
Roy has only 3 points, 3 rebounds, and was 1-8.
They beat Maryland-Eastern Shore (one of the worst teams in D-I) but then they have NOT beaten a D-I team since.
Bright is averaging 37 minutes per game in playing time, and 15ppg.
So his team sits at 1-5 vs. D-I opponents, and they are about to go 1-9 as their next four rapid fire opponents are all pretty solid (USC, Cal, Xavier, and Seton Hall).

Once they get to their conference play, I have to believe Delaware State will win some games, since half their conference opponents have RPI's of about 300, and their conference RPI ranks 26th!
But as bad as DSU is playing, it is going to be hard for Rot to get serious consideration at the end of the season for the conference POY.

I agree...no doubting his talent...but here it is, November of his senior year, and no recruiting
site mentions another scholarship offer.
Somebody knows something................

Bradley recruited Jeff Teague from Indianapolis Pike High School.
Teague is now a freshman at Wake Forest and scored 18 points Saturday in a win against Bucknell. He averages 8.4 ppg and leads the team in steals (2.4)--
http://wakeforestsports.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/121607aaa.html

Another BU recruit at Wake Forest, 6'8" freshman James Johnson from Cheyenne, Wyoming, scored 7 points and had 12 rebounds. Johnson, who has started every game, is Wake Forest's overall leading scorer (12.6 ppg) and rebounder (9.7 rpg).

More evidence JL knows talent...
Jim Les really wanted Roy Bright, but Bright chose to go to Delaware State.

Bad news for Bright, though, is that his Delaware State Blue Hens got hammered again last night 74-57, but Bright had a fine game, was 10-18 and 27 pts/7 rebs.
DSU is now 3-7 but only one win over a D-I team, UMES - RPI = 319!
Roy....if you had chosen BU, you'd be on a Top 50 RPI team!

One other kid that was minimally recruited by BU, Justin Dehm, was really hot early in the season for Furman.
He was the team's leading scorer over the first four games, and had earned a starting position.
But, his production has fallen way off and he could lose his starting spot.
Last night, his Furman Paladins went to 0-9, as Justin played 24 minutes in his starting role but scored only 2, w/2 assists.
Justin also has gone scoreless in two of the past 4 games.

D-I veteran, Dodie Dunson, is averaging 9ppg/2 assists/and 30% shooting pct at Vincennes juco

Darrington Hobson (from Decatur Christian) is averaging 12ppg, 2 assists and 30% 3-pt shooting at College of Eastern Utah.
....(recall, he was a 4-Star rated recruit who was labelled a "scoring machine".)
Blake Mishler had his best collegiate game ever last night as East Tennessee State beat Georgia at the Rainbow Classic,
he scored 8 points and had 2 rebs in 18 minutes. But he's still way deep in the playing rotation, and I have to think he will look to play elsewhere if his playing time stays minute.
Josh Edmonds' Quincy U. is on a 3-game roll as Josh is averaging 9pts/3 rebs.
Matt Hagen (Jeremy Crouch's teammate at Pekin) who is a senior at Rice, has been injured and has yet to play this season.
Midwest Central's Ryan Burks is one of his team's leaders at 17.7ppg, 5rpg, they are 6-1
mbb_news_burks2.jpg

Yuba's Mareceo Rutledge, who BU was after, ended up at UNLV.
Rutledge has been getting the chance to play a lot, and last night had a decent game as UNLV beat Kennesaw State 76-55.
Mareceo had 5 pts., 9 rebs,
and on the season his averages are:
14 minutes per game, 4.5ppg, 2.7 rpg.

Delaware State's Roy Bright, another ex-BU recruit, lost big time to Xavier last night, 65-33. Bright played 34 minutes, had 2 points, 6 rebs, and was 1-13 from the floor.

Carlton Fay who spurned BU scholarship offers to head to SIU played 7 minutes in last night's SIU loss to Butler and was 1-1 with 2 pts, 2 rebs, 2TO.
Fay is averaging 2ppg on the seaosn.

Larry Eustachy's Southern Miss Golden Eagles actually played a real D-I team last night and lost big time, 78-58, to Mississippi.
Their loss drops Conference USA to 13th among Conference RPI's, and So. Miss' RPI rises a bit as they finally play someone decent, but it is still 178 and doomed to drop further as their next game is Savannah State.

Lastly....here are some followups on.....

Rodney Edgerson, now in his 6th year as he was granted a special waiver and a 2nd medical redshirt year is actually the team'sleading scorer at Kentucky Wesleyan. He is averaging he is averaging 21ppg, on .633 shooting (50-79) and .500 3-pt shooting (19-38 ). He is also shooting .933 on FT's (28-30)

Jeremy Fears, at South Carolina-Aiken (D-II), has come on very strong. He still comes off the bench, but has zoomed into the #2 spot in scoring on th team with 15.5ppg, 4.2rpg, 4.2 assists per game in 25 minutes per game.
USC-Aikan is ranked #13 in the 12/29 poll.

Ray Brown at Western Missouri (D-II) has moved into a starting role and has started the last five games, and is averaging 21 minutes per game, scoring 8ppg, 3.5 rpg.

DeAaron Williams is at Northern Kentucky, and they are on a 6-game winning streak. DeAaron has played the past two games since gaining eligibility, and has scored 18 then 4 points respectively, for an average of 11ppg.
He is 9-13 from the field, 4-5 from 3-pt, has 3.5 rpg and only one turnover total in the two games, averaging almost 20 mpg.

Ex-BU recruit Daniel West is having a good year, and is rated as one of the best point guards in Michigan.
Over the holidays, West's Saginaw team kept winning and is still undefeated, but a recent premium article on a Michigan Prep site claims West is far from being a qualifier and it affects his recruiting.
Just about the only interest he's receiving is from Central Michigan, and he is likely to be a prep school or juco candidate.
He may yet end up being a TOP recruit, but I have seen little yet to disprove that Bradley made the right decision dropping their offer.

Here are a handful of recruits, a couple of whom BU may have been interested in at one time....Here is a little followup on how they are doing.........

Dodie Dunson (dropped out at Iowa State, now at Vincennes JC) 9ppg, 38% FG, 32% -pt%, 3 rpg, 3 apg
Brandon Dunson...quit at Tenn-Chatt...transf to SIUE, not playing
Manual Cass, dismissed from UTEP, played 13 gm ...4ppg, 2 rpg
Demetrius Young (from Yuba) 7ppg, 8rpg for 4-17 Stony Brook
Josh Tabb...at U. Tennessee...1.7ppg, 2 rpg...not playing much at all now
Blake Mishler...quit at ETSU now at ISU
Justin Bocot...redshirting
Justin Dehm..stats have fallen off..10.5ppg, 1.8 apg for 4-18 Furman
Shang Ping...playing time falling way off, 3.6ppg, 1.6 rpg 11mpg

Except for the rebs Young might have been giving us, I see nothing there that I feel we missed out on....

I caught some of the Nebraska-Colorado game online, and for the first time in numerous games, Shang Ping got in the game and played.
Nebraska has struggled at times this year but Colorado is really bad, and the Huskers blew out to a 20 point lead early and cruised easily clearing the benches for lots of garbage minutes.
Ping played 7 minutes, didn't get a shot, didn't get a rebound, missed two FT's badly and picked up two fouls and had a turnover.
He isn't likely to get much playing time again and maybe not even next year with recent performances like this, so it'll be interesting to see how it unfolds.

..Cassin Diggs was also on BU's radar, and ended up at Pitt.....

Cassin Diggs couldn't find another DI that fit, so he ended up at Bowie State, where he was teamed up with ex-Tennessee Volunteer Duke Crews...
but Duke has since been booted from the team (as he was for drugs - by Bruce Pearl - at Tennessee) but Diggs is still there, avg. 10.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg
Diggs is just another example of a kid aiming too high, wasting years not playing them ending up somewhere obscure, kinda like DeAaron Williams & others.
http://bsubulldogs.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball&roster=26&
(Crews is #2, Diggs is #4)
