Sam Maniscalco-Sam scored 22 points to lead St. Patrick's to a win at East Suburban Catholic Conference opponent Carmel 58-44. St. Pat's is now 11-3, and 5-0 in the ESCC.--
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...731772.htmlstory?coll=cs-highschool-headlines (scroll to the 13th game)

Anthony Thompson-
Houston Klein Forest high school won big Friday night 82-35 over Klein Oak high school. Klein Forest is now 18-8. Thompson is not listed among the scoring leaders--
http://www.chron.com/c/apps/sports/...ry=boxscore&gender=boys&year=2006&season=2007

Will Egolf-As mentioned in another thread, Will Egolf's team, Juneau Douglas HS won Wednesday against Bartlett HS. Will was high scorer with 17 points.--
http://www.jdcrimsonbears.com/emp.php?article=46

Then they travelled to Anchorage for the Alaska Airlines tournament at Anchorage West high school. In their first game of the tournament they played Notre Dame Academy of Middleburg, VA, one of the top ranked prep schools in the country. They lost, but Will was sensational and scored 28 points to lead all scorers.--

Note one interesting statement in the article...one of the Notre Dame players is committed to Marist. The story says-- Coincidentally, Marist opens its 2007-2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference against Bradley University, Egolf's future school. Do they know something we don't? Is Bradley moving to the MAAC?

Juneau Douglas then played Bartlett again in the consolation bracket of the tournament Friday. This time they lost 74-58, making JDHS 0-2 in the tournament, so far. Wil had another great game, scoring 26 points

DeAaron Williams-
ICC played Wednesday at Lincoln College and lost for the first time since Nov. 17. They play again today at 3:00pm at the ICC gymnasium. They are now 17-2.

Dwight Buycks-
Milwaukee Bay View raced to a 27-2 lead in the first quarter on its way to an 86-59 victory over Milwaukee North. Johnny Lacy was the high scorer for Bay View with 26 points. Dwight Buycks had 9 points.--
http://www2.jsonline.com/sports/prep/statsbkb/boxscore.asp?page=boys&game=9076

Buycks' scoring average has dropped a bit to 21.1 ppg--
http://www2.jsonline.com/sports/prep/statsbkb/leader_player_scoring.asp?page=boys

And Bay View goes to 10-0 overall, and 4-0 and remains in 1st place in the toughest conference in Wisconsin--
http://www2.jsonline.com/sports/prep/statsbkb/standings.asp?page=boys&conference=38

Daniel West-
Saginaw high school has not played since Tuesday, when they lost at crosstown rival Saginaw Arthur Hill. Saginaw had been undefeated and ranked #1 in Class A in the state of Michigan before that loss--

I'm starting to wonder about AT......we have discussed this before but I got to think a RED shirt is almost unavoidable.

I read on a Milwaukee high school message board that Buycks is working more on his ball handling, passing, and off-the-ball skills now that Bay View is blowing teams out by 20-30, and is not so much worried about his scoring, which he apparently knows he can put up 20 on any given night.
I like that and I am sure Coach Les appreciates it too.

In Will Egolf's team's loss Thursday, Will had 28 points, but the opponent, Notre Dame Prep (VA), had a front line that went 6-8. 6-6, 6-6, and doubled Will to try to hold him down.
Notre Dame led 23-5 after one quarter, but Will scored well the rest of the way (all his points were in the final three quarters) to nearly even the game (it go to 4-points, but Notre Dame made all their FT's down the stretch) before they fell by 10, 68-58.

Notre Dame Prep of Middlesburg, VA is now 22-0.

Saturday night:

St. Patrick's played again. They beat Joliet Catholic in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game 63-45.
Sam was on fire in the game! He scored 29 points, and sunk 3 three pointers in the 4th quarter. St. Pat's is 12-3, 6-0.
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...,6256061.htmlstory?coll=cs-highschool-utility

Daniel West's Saginaw High School team bounced back from their first loss of the season with a win. They beat previously unbeaten and 5th ranked Detroit Pershing High School 66-60.

Will Egolf and the Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears won Saturday. Will has had great games in their first 2 games in the Alaska Airlines Tournament in Anchorage, but his team has come up short. Saturday they beat Barrow 72-35. Will was the leading scorer with 20 points.

Will was named to the All Tournament Team. Congratulations Will.

I spoke with someone who saw the game.
He said Sam was nothing short of unbelievable.
Joliet Catholic actually played their best game and held Sam to only 10 points after 3 quarters.
JCA lead 24-18 at halftime, and it was still a 1 point game at the end of the 3rd quarter.
That's when they put the ball in Sam's hands, and he drained 3 3-pointers, scored 19 all by himself in the 4th quarter, and put the game out of reach.
Sam was having a bit of an off night at the free throw line (10-17), so Joliet kept trying to foul him.
But the refs let them play and Sam stayed hot.

Anthony Thompson

Anthony Thompson

I went to another Klein Forest game to see Anthony. KF won 51-42 to go to 20-8. Anthony had 10 points a bunch of blocks, a few rebounds and a few assists. As I have said before he really looks coordinated, has a good shot, can use either hand very well and runs the floor well. He was a lot more active than the other game I saw him play. He looks like he can shoot pretty well out to about 15 feet-except the free throw shooting could be better (only 2-4 though). My only concerns are his rebounding and his strength. He just does not get very good position (repeatedly gets too far under the basket) and he gets pushed around. I think that could get a lot better with some time in the weight room and some added weight.

Thanks for the nice report on Anthony Thompson.

A few other BU recruits played Friday--

Sam Maniscalco lead St. Patrick's (13-3, 7-0) with 19 points as they beat Nazareth 55-47 in a Southeast Catholic Conference game.--
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...,1401802.htmlstory?coll=cs-highschool-utility

Milwaukee Bay View high school olost their 1st game of the season 71-73 to Milwaukee Custer. Dwight Buycks had 19 points.--
http://www2.jsonline.com/sports/prep/statsbkb/boxscore.asp?page=boys&game=9564

Saginaw beat Flint Central on Friday 89-72. Saginaw is 10-1. BU 2008 recruit Daniel West was not among the leading scorers.

ICC plays this afternoon (4:00pm) at home against Lincolnland. But DeAaron Williams will not play because of his suspension.

And Will Egolf's team played Friday, but no results are available yet.

Here's a blurb from the Trib, they say the final score was 56-47

"St. Patrick 56

NAZARETH 47

East Suburban Catholic

SUMMARY: Nazareth's Mike Garabedian scored 8 of his team's 10 points in first quarter, but Sam Maniscalco answered with 8 points in second quarter for St. Patrick (13-3, 7-0).

TOP PERFORMERS: St. Patrick--Maniscalco scored 19 and Edmond O'Callaghan had 11. Nazareth--Garabedian finished with 18 points.

THE BONUS: "We control our own destiny," Maniscalco said. "We need to focus on ourselves, not our opponents. We want the other team to beat us, not ourselves."

I absolutely positively cannot wait for this kid to GET HERE! along with his fellow members of next years recruiting class. Although, I still await the signing of the 6'8"+ Juco, as it would be wise to red shirt Thompson..

As much as I anticipate next year there are some questions in MY mind.
Brown...what do we have? He's bigger and stronger. "Juco like" with plenty of practice time with his team. SHOULD be real hungry.
ThompsonSkinny...as you and almost everyone has stated..perfect RS candidate.
Maniscalco Sounds good but how many true freshman really contribute? I look at is as a bonus but don't expect anything anymore from ANY freshman.
Buycks see above...
Egolf I heard ONE glowing report (not from the board) that sounded too good to be true. I didn't repeat it because I didn't want to set expectations too high. How good is his competition? Again...see above.
Williams I have never seen him play. All reports are slasher/athletic but can't shoot. Sounds like the Mo days. Not ripping Mo or DW. I just don't know what to expect.
Fears Saw him at the R/W. Sounds like he has some skills. Can he mesh with the rest? Also a poor shooter from what we have read.

Guess I'm being the Devils advocate. I just think alot of people are really touting alot of unknowns.

Give me that impact big guy and it will really change this entire team/class but how does BU recruit and why does an IMPACT big come to BU. I mean I know WHY he should  but I'm biased.

OK..fire away.

Great post and here are my thoughts......

Brown will be hungry and stronger and knows the system. He will be a force next year coming off the bench.

Thompson is a perfect red shirt and after we announce our JC big impact guy he will be an evan better RS candidate.

Maniscalco will contibute next year and he will be in a great position for a Freshman, he will not have to try to do to much. He will have his spots where he will be needed and will be a factor.

Buycks is a kid that could have played in any conference and is a steal for BU. He may push for a starting roll or at least major minutes sooner than later.

Egolf will surprise people and will get minutes next year. He will be a major part of the program by his Sophomore year.

Williams would be great at BU but I am not counting on him being there. I hope it happens and that he fits well with the team.

Fears has improved his outside shot greatly and will be the best player on the court next year. He will be first team all MVC and may be player of the year.

Just my thoughts from everything I can find on these guys and following up on them as much as possible. No I have not seen them play I live in Mexico so again its just my thoughts.....

And by the way, how good will Matt Salley be next year with more help on the boards and a year under his belt. Matt has proven to be a great pickup that should have a banner year next year.

Yea Dog to quote one of your numerous sayings, "what he said"
I could not have said it better.I congratulate Mex on his astute observations.
Now to address, "why would a Big come here?." Thats easy, With the PROJECTED talent level next year and then Daniel West and hopefully a vastly improved X coming the following year. Bradley will be in the spotlight on a national level. Much like Butler, Gonzaga, and Wichita earlier this year.
We have The Coach, We have the Fans, We have the School, and now, or so it seems, we will have a consistent flow of talent.
This comes from a fan who is usually, cautiously optimistic to a fault, about The Braves.
I see nothing but up-up-up!
PS: Maniscalco will NOT be your proto-typical frosh! His playing time will be limited only because, he is behind one of the best Daniel Ruffin!

OK..I convinced

But lets continue. We DONT have that big yet. So far its been alot of BU fans just talking about what we obviously need. So until I here a see a signing/commit its just a dream. Yes I know we have to wait for a scholly to possibly open.

Buycks and Maniscalco seem to be two highly talented freshman. I compare them to Eldrige at ISU. He is contributing but on a team that really needs him. How much would he be helping BU right now? I guess it good because, as someone pointed out, they can be eased in.

Egolf contributing by Soph. year..yeah thats my point. Thats 2 years away. So it continues with my theme about NEXT year.

Thompson...doesn't appear ready. Reallt no one knows but IF he rs's and then comes in as a freshman the following year we are talking 3 years for some impact. Which is fine but its NOT nest year.

I hope DW's latest "problem" is nothing to worry about.

Yup we need a BIG, but a ittle- bitty- birdie told me it is a done deal. Just waiting for the ol' chippies to fall.
