BU reports from insider..

I say it that with caution because I don't have connections. Just some "inside" info or report I got from a BU guy when I asked him HIS thoughts.

Nothing earth shattering but....

Collins is better then he expected. Mansicaclo looks real good. Bulldog was the word used. Egolf is also looking very good and my contact smiled from ear to ear when asked about him. He also said BU is getting recruits good enough now that a Danny Adams type wouldn't have the luxury to "grow" in our system. IOW the level of recruits is better.

For the record this is no slight on DA, one of my alltime favorites and a poster boy for all things BU.

He has watched several practices and came away impressed. Simply put he said this team and for years to come should be a consistent NCAA or NIT team. While some cringe at the NIT talk I think we all realize that the NCAA bids are tough to come by sometimes even IF you deserve one.

Good news!
I have also heard from people who have seen the new guys play. Tyrone Cole-Scott is quite a player. He's got a scorer's mentality, and is extremely strong and plays great defense. Defense is not usually something jucos are good at.
And I have heard that Sam Maniscalco may be too good of a 2-guard to play much point. He will get time at both. I have heard that all the jucos are solid, and I have heard great things about Egolf.

Also, this small clarification, Cole-Scott is not a point guard at all. He will play a 2-guard position. So when Ruffin is off the court, Sam M. will likely be the backup PG.
And let's hope DR doesn't get injured this year. We really don't have another point guard, other than Brian Lavin. I have heard that recruiting another PG (in addition to D. West) for next year is a high priority.

I was told by a high ranking BU employee that Austin is on campus. No word on his play yet. The person I talked to was also "very impressed" by our new group of players.

Huh? Everything I have seen says, SamM played the point. I'm not questioning you, just confused...

DRU, A friend of mine and I have heard the same thing about Collins and Maniscaclo.
Thanks for the report...

I would assume there would be a tidbit in the paper about Austin graduating from Northeastern since it was mentioned a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for for the input about the new guys. It sounds like Sam will fit in seamlessly.

Can I assume that the 7' Collins will be a shotblocker?

Mac-- Sam did indeed play PG in HS, but he is a fine scorer, and college coaches like to have their scorers working off screens, so the free up and then get them the ball.
So what Da Coach was saying is that sure Sam M can play PG, but if DRuff goes out, then we are thin at the PG position without using a player who can also play the 2-guard. Ergo---getting a good PG in the Class of 2008 is important.

I spoke to someone on monday in canton that told me that collins was a lot better now then pat was at the start of his career with bu.

Not many JUCO big men are very good.It is a lot easier to find a guard at the JUCO level than it is a big man.

I'm not sure this is true JUST for Juco, I think it's easier to find good guard play as compared to post play, period....

If Collins plays as well as Pat did then we should be a very good team this season.

To play the "what if" game....
Patrick O'Bryant would be a senior for Bradley this coming season, if he had stayed in school. How good would Bradley have been last year and this year with a possible All-American caliber 7-foot center?

I just got an email from Rashad's coach at Northeastern Junior College. He says Rashad finished his summer class at NJC already, and all is well. He said that after finishing his summer class, Rashad went home to California for a while. He thinks Rashad is still in California and will soon be at Bradley (if he isn't already).

Not to get everyone too giddy. . .but I'm hearing some national buzz on Egolf. I've heard comparisons to Fazekas, with the potential to develop into a Morrison or a Croshere.
