BU schedule

BU RICK

New member
should be coming out very soon, from an updated PJS article this morning:

Braves briefs: BU walk-on guard James Robertson, who redshirted his first year on campus, is transferring to Division III Elmhurst College. Said Les: ???After some soul searching, he said he wanted to go somewhere he could get minutes and play.??? ... Les said he wants to add at least one more game before completing the nonconference schedule. ???We could have two, but whether we get two remains to be seen,??? he said. ???We??™ll have one for sure. It could happen this afternoon or it could be a week or two. There are a lot of different scenarios right now.??? ... The Missouri Valley Conference is putting the finishing touches on the league schedule as it completes final negotiations with ESPN on some matchups. The target date for the MVC schedule release is Friday.

Friday would be tomorrow, 8-21.

I asked JL a question during the online chat tonight and the question/response was used as the lead paragraphs of the pjs story about the chat.....

First off, I can't imagine the frustrations that must go into scheduling at the MVC level and Bradley has done a tremendous job recently! Do you foresee an opportunity in the near future to do another two-for-one deal with a Top 25 team?

Jim Les: No question, scheduling every year is our toughest task. Believe me when I tell you that every team in the top 50 has been called or sent an inquiry. You just have to continue to be persistent and get the right set of circumstances to get a Michigan State-like foe.

I hope they continue to do these in the future not only with JL, but with players as well!

I am intrigued by the fact that so many other D-I's have released their schedules and we see Wichita, Indiana State, Evansville, and others on their schedules but not one other team except those we already knew about (BYU, NIU) has released their schedule with Bradley on it....

I thought Iowa State was on the schedule for Dec 20? Has that game not been formally announced?

Not that I'm aware of, but I could be wrong. I'm just going by the schedules that have been released. I haven't seen Iowa State's schedule yet and we know Bradley hasn't released theirs.

But you're right....Iowa State and Loyola-Chicago should also be on the schedule, just haven't seen those schedules yet.

edit: I saw where FarmerClone "had two different sources tell me this date" and it was included in a PM on this board a couple months ago, but I haven't seen it on anyone's released schedule and the list was only for "officially" announced games at this point.

It's possible the date is set, or maybe it's just a tentative agreement. Neither Bradley nor Iowa State have released their non-conference schedules officially.

The UW-Milwaukee game is the same- we know it will be played, but neither school has given a date or released the schedule officially.

The other non-conf games appear to be set, except the 1 or 2 that remain to be scheduled.

i didn't know we were playing UW-M again. Last year's game at their place was the return game from the previous year's brackbuster. Is it a series we're continuing?

That's what I was thinking.....

I believe Loyola and Iowa State are the only games that most know about and have not been officially announced yet.

I think we have one more away game from our agreement with Butler. There were some rumors that that agreement was maybe going away, or that in any case the game for this year would not be played. Is that becuase our road schedule has gotten full and frankly very tough on us? Or is the agreement off altogether? Anyone know? Personally, I can see delaying a year, but I'd like to play Butler every year for the foreseeable future.

Yes, we played Butler last year, and had an agreement to play them for the next 3 more years. But they asked to get out of the deal this year.

That would require Butler dropping either Ball State or Evansville, which, personally, I would happily greet. Bradley (or a team like Dayton) is a much surer bet to hold up their end of the bargain and maintain a respectable profile. I don't think that teams should play home-and-homes with that present no benefit for winning, but enormous downside with a loss.

I don't see anything wrong with teams scheduling in a way that optimizes their Tournament potential. BCS schools aren't refusing recipricol scheduling with non-BCS programs out of spite. On the whole, non-BCS programs do not perform well enough to make it worthwhile. A handful of programs not in the big football conferences have been able to build favorable schedules by consistently staying in the Top 25.

Whatever happened to scheduling games against good teams so your fans have at least a decent game to watch, when I was playing sports I always looked forward to playing against the best teams because it made winning feel more like an accomplishment then it did when you played against teams you knew had no chance of beating your team.

I know Butler backed out, but I don't know why they were able to keep that game around.

We are getting really good at getting good solid road chances in the non-con. Those are true resume builders.

However, as good as that part is, we gotta get something better than those 3 plus Loyola at Carver. I really hope there's something in the pipeline.
