Spot on, TAS.
The 2009-10 home schedule so far for BU looks like a string of exhibition games. BU will need to get better pre season home games, or, win big consistently in the conference for season ticket holders to continue to pay the higher ticket prices and matching university donations BU implemented...

... looks like a string of exhibition games. ..

seriously??
BYU, Oklahoma State, Illinois, Utah, Iowa State..

exactly what does BU need to do to satisfy you?
of the eight known non-conference games, HALF are from conferences of equal or greater power and ranking than the MVC.

That is unfair to AzBU fan to parse his sentence- I believe he said the HOME non-con was like a string of exhibitions....

He said the BU "home schedule" looks like a string of exhibition games. There's no doubt we have a pretty strong road/tournament schedule, but we could use a marquee home game.

ok...sorry I jumped to conclusions...but as we have discussed, it's next to impossible to get decent teams to come play in Peoria, but we'll see how it goes..

some MWC team will be in Peoria next year, and if we do well this season, it could be UNLV or New Mexico

I echo AZBufan's sentiments. There isn't one attractive home opponent on the schedule, not even one that is halfway interesting and if the other two haven't been announced, I can almost guarantee you they will be at or below the current offerings. The only problem I have with the road/neutral schedule is the trap game in DeKalb after Vegas, which I consider an absolutely inexcusable decision on our interim AD's part. A team of NIU's caliber should only play us at CArver, and if that sounds elitist, so be it. 300ish RPIs season after season for the huskies grant me that perspective.

Lets not go there again... the 5 page thread last time wore me out.

We all agree that the home schedule isn't great. We know that. We also know how ridiculously tough it is to schedule home games at all. Even Tom Izzo said in an interview after the game two years ago that he doesn't want to come back here. Not only can we play well, but the fans can make Carver roar... and its a tough place to play. Mid major (sorry for the label...) + tough home crowd = REALLY tough to schedule anyone decent.

Lets not get hung up on it. We're upset about one QUARTER of our schedule. The non-conference home portion. At least we have a great looking non-conference road schedule. If it starts happening more frequently, then I can see being upset.

If you're a season ticket holder and drop your tickets (too late?) because of one season of poor non-conference home games, then you're probably not all that dedicated. I know thats probably offensive to some, but come on...

I paid to watch the ridiculous home schedules in the 70's, so no reason to boycott the Braves now.

There is only ONE scheduled home (non-con) game known so far...and we are ready to throw away our tickets and jump out a window?
The Wofford & Presbyterian games are part of the tourney we accept in order to get those other two top games...so that's a given...we didn't go out and schedule them, but yet they are no different from what Illinois or IU has at home early in the season...
(Illinois also hosts Wofford & Presbyterian, while IU hosts Bryant, SC-Upstate, Loyola of MD, and Howard)

we've been fortunate to see Michigan State, Iowa State, DePaul, and numerous other BCS opponents here in Peoria, and I trust our guys are doing the best they can to schedule as well as they can despite the complaints.

I haven't seen anybody say anything like that. I do think that most of us season ticket holders would like to see at least some decent mid-majors on the home non-con schedule. We do pay good money for those games. Are we not allowed to even voice a little displeasure?

... however ....

I agree. And this is why I haven't been complaining much at all. You cant get primo home games every year, and the staff has been very good at getting them in years past. I think that has to buy some patience and understanding from the season ticket holders.

I'm sure it's not for lack of trying that our home non-con isn't more exciting.

Besides, there are a few more games left to schedule, so maybe JL will pull a rabbit out of his hat.

In future years, I'd be very happy to see some good mid-major opponents come to Carver. VCU, ODU, etc.

BU Schedule

BU Schedule

Once again, scheduling must be controlled and managed by the AD who, hopefully, has very good D1 networking contacts and a strong D1 basketball background of experience. Cetainly, the coach should work closely with the AD on this but scheduling should remain the ADs responsibility. Most coaches will not agree with this since they want to control scheduling for all of the obvious reasons. In past years, some coaches at BU have tried to put the responsibility for scheduling in their contracts but fortunately this was turned down by the AD. While I agree that this years home schedule's apparent weakness is probably an anomaly, I wonder how much affect our not having a qualified AD has had on this situation.

Sorry - but someone has to say it.......

We need a full time AD if we expect to be respected by other programs...
someone in that position needs to develop STRONG relationships with the AD's elsewhere so we can get the scheduling done.

this delay in getting games done and this difficulty in getting quality opponents is directly caused by the loss of Ken Kavanagh...and the absence of anyone filling his shoes.
The fault does NOT lie with the Athletic Department.

Scheduling & the AD

Scheduling & the AD

Tornado---I couldn't agree with you more! Not having a full time AD thru the Summer has to have had a detrimental affect in a number of areas, especially in scheduling. Let's hope we get someone before the BB season begins!

Detrimental? I would love to know where all of these detrimental impacts are.

Is scheduling rough? Sure. Is that caused by a lack of an AD? We'll never know. Though it's clear many of you that you already have pointed your fingers and feel better doing so. Was KK great? Seems like it. Is the world ending because we'll have a very capable interim for a year and then a full-time person (potentially one and the same)? Come on guys.

I'm not throwing my tickets away but I am starting to wonder just how much their face value is and if I over paid for them or just got my butt ripped off:? I paid to see the Braves play and against quality opponents:!::-x

I agree with you T:!: I must say however this coming from you, is very surprising and way out of your norm:!: This whole AD thing is a joke and is not making BU's Athletic Dept. look like a strong Div 1 program:!: The KK thing did not have to happen:!: Nor going with a intern this long and no national search for a replacement:!: Something and Someone is wrong and out of place here:twisted:

A couple things off the top of my head......

I guess isu hasn't had a full-time AD the past few years as their schedule would indicate.

Also, there are other options for tickets.....Bradley does offer the Mini-Pack (8 MVC home games - excluding illinois state).

This is the first year I've had any sort of season tickets and I went with the Mini-Pack. I will most definitely be in line the morning of Nov. 2 buying tickets to the isu game and any other non-con games that my schedule will allow me to see.
