BU still looking for another game.

This is where we get our "Mid-Major" status. Not good enough for Big Ten teams, but too good for quite a few programs (Like EIU).

No we get our "mid" status basically becuase we don't have BCS football and out budget is well below what they consider majors.....

Let's put it this way: Filling out a schedule is easy. Filling out the schedule you WANT is a bit tougher

Agreed! I know from experiencing filling in that last game is pretty hard. Stanford has an open date when we do but they want a home game. We could go on the road but then the our home schedule would be woeful and our guys on the road a ton.

Non Con W-L records mostly affect at large selections and tournament seeding.

If the NCAA Selection Committee would discount/ignore home wins vs bottom 1/2 RPI or Div II opponents, discount road losses to top 1/3 RPI schools, and emphasize road wins vs top 1/3 RPI schools in their at large selection criteria, and, in tournament seeding, it might make it easier for Coaches/Athletic Directors to schedule better Non Con games.

Wouldn't better non con scheduling improve NCAA/Individual Team leverage with more lucrative TV/Radio contracts?

Just a thought...

Tornado, the one thing that any coach would say, but fans wont is:

FANS ARENT WORRIED ABOUT GETTING FIRED!!!!!

Scheduling is difficult, but its much more difficult because of the reason above.

Scheduling would be infinitely easier if records didnt effect hirings/firings.

But we are all capitalists, and of course it does.

Its just the nature of the game...But you wouldnt believe some of the games that get turned down because of ridiculous reasons.

We may not be capitalists for much longer if certain people have their way!

If a coach would ever get FIRED simply because of who he schedules then it would more than likely be because he scheduled along the lines of Jank, not along the lines of JL.
There are schools where every year they land several big-but-almost-certain loss-type guarantee games, and yet their head coaches have been re-upped over and over for a decade or more and are in no risk of getting FIRED..

so I contend that if a coach gets fired, it's not as likely to be due to who you scheduled, but who you LOST TO!

That's right. . .a large of element is who you lose to. That's part of what feeds the coaches paranoia. They know on an off night, even the 250th rated team could have a ridiculous night and beat them. And on an off year, that alone could be enough to cost them their job.

But that also spills over into scheduling. Coaches will always have a few "challenge" games on their that won't risk their job security. But beyond that, nearly all DI coaches will only play people on their terms, and frankly that's unreasonable and not an excuse for scheduling being hard.

You, are exactly right, making my point, that is the reason they have such a hard time scheduling.

But there's little shame in losing to Duke on the road, but bigger concerns about losing a home game to Niagara...

NCAA needs to provide incentive for schools to schedule tougher Non Con games, or, Non Con road games.

If a school goes .500 or less in a tougher Non Con, but wins their conference/conference tourney and/or gets a NCAA/NIT bid, don't think a coaches job would be in jepoardy...

Coaches that aren't successful in conference play or conference tourneys rely on padding Non Con schedule to try and make their program look better and to lock up NCAA/NIT at large bids to keep their jobs.

NCAA can help eliminate that by ignoring Non Con wins against lessor opponents, particularly home games, when deciding at large bids. Of course that would pi$$ off major conference schools so it won't happen...

-that this Nov. 17 game IS the game in the tournament

Don't know and nothing has been officially announced, but based on other team's published schedules, I think it is closer to the latter of those 2 options, as the tournament website now states that all games in the tournament will be played at the MassMutual Center.
http://www.halloffametipoff.com/schedule.php
I think the preliminary games may have been axed, but the 2 games in Massachusetts are still on. I think the loss of those 2 guaranteed home games is why Bradley is now scrambling to add games.

Also, here is their twitter page which has been recently updated-
http://twitter.com/HOF_Tipoff
It states-
The Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament will take place at the MassMutual Center on Sat, Nov. 20th & Sun, Nov 21st. 8 schools - 2 brackets - 4 teams
The site previously listed preliminary games on campuses, but has now removed that part of the description of the tournament.

Here was the lastest speculation-
http://www.bradleyhoops.com/homepage/x1110533749/Tournament-format-might-change

So if reading that right we'll still be able to play USC and either UMass or New Mexico-- we'll just have to replace the home games with other home games (potentially against the same opponents we would have played-- Loyola Marymount and TCU would be nice)?

That's how I understand it, though no official announcement to clarify the schedule has been made by any of the teams or by the tournament people themselves. But I have to believe the preliminary games on the college campuses have been eliminated, or why would there be no mention of any of those games now on the college sites or on the tournament site.
Plus their website now clearly states- All games played at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts
And their twitter states only this- ....Tournament will take place at the MassMutual Center on Sat, Nov. 20th & Sun, Nov 21st.

If LMU is in the fold, we need the TCU game now too, preferably as the opener on the weekend. Buy them if you have to...season ticket holders deserve a name opponent to watch for a change.

Can we replace the home games? Am I crazy thinking that the reason we do a tournament is that it only takes up one game on our schedule? So freeing up tourney home games doesn't buy us anything right?
