BU vs ISU

AMC,

Just ;)

Some of us JL should be on thin ice crowd have a sense of humor!

You are probably correct. All the pro and anti JL posters at the game are probably still out drinking their sorrows away right now, and not Kool Aid!

;) ;)

As I wrote a little bit ago ... this team simply isn't that good.

Throw the blame game wherever you want - that's for all of you to decide, I try to stay out of that. There's no depth and we don't have a single player who can defend a powerful guy like Odiakosa in the post.

Combine that with one of the worst shooting performances I've seen in a long time (5-28, 17%; 1-11 3PT, 9.1%) in the second half, and that's how you get a blowout.

50-28 on the boards after destroying Creighton on the glass again proves that rebounding is not necessarily about size, but about desire.

Sadly this team never looked like it ever had a chance to win today.

Most important point to make, especially on a message board that is so divided these days: Bradley is never as good as it looks in victories (Ill, vs. MSU, at SIU) and is equally not as bad as it looks on the rough games (at MSU, at ISU). What you have is a very average team that has hovered around .500 the entire season and will stay there the rest of the way.

And being average is more frustrating than anything, which is really what gets people riled up. You see this team put up great performances and you might think it could be a contender for the top of the Valley. But then you see games like today and you see all of the deficiencies.

Bradley doesn't do anything well on a consistent basis. We have games where we rebound well, shoot great, minimize turnovers, knock down FTs, play lockdown defense. But when it really comes down to it, not any one of these (except for maybe free throw shooting in conference play) is something we do really well on a game-in-game-out basis. So, that's why you have the ups and downs.

If the team was lousy, fans could understand that and root hard for them to overachieve. Similarly, nobody ever has trouble with a team that is a winner. But the roller coaster ride is what gets everyone so angry.

I don't have the solutions but that's what I see.

EVER NOTICE HOW ALL THE JL SUPPORTERS DISAPPEAR ON THIS FORUM WHEN THEY STINK THE JOINT UP VS ISU? ;):twisted:

How do we defend JL and the progress of his program now?

that's insane...
we disappeared because we were in Bloomington and then had the drive back...
and since when is it the fans' job to defend anything...I am a fan of the program, I am unapologetically supportive and if you need to complain go right ahead...

We're still here, being rational and level-headed. Oh wait, you just expected the supporters to not be here.

I hope we win out. I hope JL gets as much out of the players that he can for the rest of the season. I hope when the season is over, however it ends up, JL and crew re-evaluate their practices form this season and make the necessary changes to make sure that these lulls do not happen as frequently. Bad games are going to happen, losing streaks will occur. But what is frustrating to me is that this year, we were supposed to be good. We had a ton of talent back. Next year, we have even more back. Losing CR and SS, the way they are playing, is not overly significant, IMO. If everyone else is back and we are not in contention, something is wrong.

IF JL cannot get his team to respond, then it is natural for people to want to look for a new coach. Are we there yet? No one knows except the players.

i agree. next year will be our year.

I guess I didn't wink enough in my post! ;););)

This was for 'where are all the JL bashers when BU actually wins a game?' posters...

A little testy after the butt whipping today?

Want a lift?

Want a lift?

DRAKE BEATS CREIGHTON 79-74

And your Bradley Braves are 1 game out of 3rd. in the Mo. Valley, with 7 games to go!:-P:-P:-P

I have said enough....no more needs to be said. If some can't see that there is something terribly wrong well, they probably never will.

We can only hope the powers that be though do see this train is losing steam and the wheels are about to come off...if they haven't allready.

Watch the next home game...it will look like a non-con game with 4,000 no shows.

Book it...

Well dogsrus, you know we have had our disagreements, but I'm with you, this game was an absolute train wreck! Yes, road games sometimes bring out the worst in a team (see our two "polar opposite" games against Missouri St.). But it looked like we completely lacked the passion to at least keep this game close, save for a brief second half run where it looked like we flirted with getting back into the game.

I'll now accept that Bradley is a very mediocre team, and unless we storm back with a long winning streak to end the season, that's who they will continue to be. Having said all that though, I'm still at least holding out hope that we can win the games we should win, and upset a good team or two at home, which is possible.

First things first. Let's just go out and beat Drake on Tuesday night. They did what we failed to do on Wednesday night by beating Creighton at their place. This tells me that Drake is the better team now. But I don't know if they are so much better that we can't beat them at our place. Then we go to Evansville which scares me because they are way overdue for a win. They may get one tomorrow at home against Indiana St., and in a way I kind of hope they do so they at least don't have to play with more urgency against us. Let's just concentrate on those two games, one at a time of course, and then worry about ISU red and UNI at home.

Can't remember being more embarrassed sitting and watching a BU game ... home or road. Would like to tune into those half-time locker room sessions. Last week, against Creighton, we had one field goal in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Today, we had one field goal in the first 11 minutes. It was so bad, the ISU fans surrounding us (non-students, of course) were actually going out of their way to be nice to us and telling us we must just be having a bad game. Normally (no pun intended), they'd be yukking it up. One bucket from our three post players and that was from AT during garbage time. I think the six-year experiment should have run its course by now and AT should be given a shot and a chance to sink or swim for next year. And, please ... please ... go find a juco banger who can defend the post, take up space and jump a little bit. Maybe even give us a few points in a back-up role. If ISU can recruit guys like Odiakosa, Carmichael, Lewis, why can't we? Oh, that's right ... the Valley is a guard oriented conference.

Well no one else has bitten on the subject yet, so I guess I will. How bout that easy IL State non-conference schedule? Maybe it helps them create better defense and offense. Either way you look at it, the team with 1 of the easiest schedules in the nation just massacred us today.

It's never good to be embarrassed in a Regional TV game........ This isn't going to do recruiting any good. :( :(

I disagree completely. If a recruit saw that game we should be happy. They would certainly feel there is an excellant chance to get minutes next year in our program. If those kids aren't embarassed the should be. That was a sorry excuse for a BU team. Used to go on a lot of road trips but this year we haven't been on one and no plans to if thats the best effort they are going to put forth. Its still not to late but the clock is running out

I say good riddance to those 4000. They aren't fans anyway.

How do we defend JL and the progress of his program now?

I'm here. And if you read my above post, I thought this was a terrible effort on our part, and everyone associated with this teams should share the responsibilty. But I also think the tables can be turned just as quickly when ISU steps foot into our house.

If you don't believe that, just ask Missouri St. how they felt playing here! :)

One thing is for sure. The one thing we are the most consistent at is being inconsistent. We've had stretches where our offense looks like a finely tuned machine and others where it looks like we have no idea what we're doing. On defense at times we've really put the clamps on teams and other times we play ole defense and just have no clue. Outrebound a team by about 20 in one game and get outrebounded by about 20 the next game. How does that happen. There's no question this team has talent but I've never watched a BU team that's more inconsistent and confounding to watch then this team is. And yet come Tuesday night I'll be there at the Civic Center to cheer on our guys to victory.

Im an ISU fan till death but ill be honest Bradley's talent level is way down. I wanted to win by twenty but ill be honest close games are more fun. You guys will prolly beat us at home because we suck on the road. You guys lack big guys that want to bang. Simms-Edwards is prolly your guys only thing to look forward to he is solid. Maniscalco is good but he is not athletic enough to ever be a game changer. If i was a bradley fan I would be worrying about zero recruits coming in and I think your gonna have some boys bolt.

Thanks for being honest. You're prolly right.
