Butler loses preseason exhibition game

Northern State ended the game on a 12-0 run with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win

...some had said we should be just like Butler .. but we sure screwed that up by beating our D-II foe...;)

Northern Iowa clobbered this same Northern State team last Sunday 71-53 -- I guess that makes UNI 21 points better than Butler

This just in -- Top-10 ranked Duke struggled but finally pulled away from their D-II opponent Shaw 80-66
St. John's barely squeaked by D-III St. Mary's 77-70 - trailing by as much as 6 in the final minutes...

Memphis leads LeMoyne-Owens 89-44 with 10 minutes left -- fans there are finally getting comfortable

Maybe when we have a coach who takes us to a NCAA Championship game, we can give him a contract with a total compensation package of $750,000 per year.

To put the upset alert out there - my Louisville Cardinals are going to struggle tonight against D2 Bellarmine. We just lost illinois recruit Wayne Blackshear to a torn shoulder labrum, we have our starting pg and best player out with injury, and a couple other lingering things, not to mention the standard tendency to play a lot of people in exhibition games - it is ripe for an upset. Also doesn't hurt that Bellarmine is the defending D2 national champion. Should be a good game

Surely Coach Pitino wasn't counting on freshman Wayne Blackshear to be a key factor this year?
I am not alone in thinking he was a bit overrated.

He wasn't going to be a factor immediately, largely because he was coming off a shoulder issue (his other shoulder), and was still warming up to the game after having not practiced for something like 6 months. But he would have been a welcome addition to our 2-3 spot, as we have often struggled to generate offense out of the half court - as Card fans we're just looking for another Terrence Williams, heh. The bigger issue is Siva being out. PG is our main position of weakness, so ideally, we'll get some experience for oms eplayers that need it tonight.

Well I guess Butler is destined for a last place finish and the players have no idea what they are doing. Is their board in meltdown mode like ours is even though we won? LOL

IMO, this is no where near meltdown mode for us... Just because people don't like what they saw and have low expectations this season (which I deem reasonable and almost logical, ya know, since we were last the previous year, and lost our returning leading scorer and a starting big man...) does not mean meltdown. I don't understand how expecting few wins is meltdown, when there is a coaching change, to me, that's where expectations should be.

If people are expecting a 5-6th place finish and we don't get there did Geno fail this year? (I don't think so, but if those are the expectations people have, I don't see how it could not be)

I know you have a problem with what Bradley is paying Geno but, you must admit Beninator, if BU wants to compete with the top teams in the MVC they must pay commensurate with those top teams. Geno is getting paid similar money as WSU, CU, UNI, and even SIU I believe. Now, it's up to Geno to justify whether or not BU overpaid.
